In this collection of unflinching, unapologetic, and funny oh-so-real life stories, Lori B. Duff bares the creaky, embarrassing parts of our high school cafeteria-scarred souls for us, leaving us no choice but to laugh at our failures, no matter how spectacular, and rejoice in our successes, no matter how itty-bitty. She shows women that each one of us is a wonder in our own way, with the ability … ability — whether we know it or not — to make the best of life’s often absurd situations. Reading If You Did What I Asked In the First Place is like sitting down with a good friend who helps you make it through the day. Pour yourself a glass of whatever makes you feel better and take off any constricting undergarments: Let loose with the knowledge that you are not alone. You have Lori at your side.

Many ideas from this Mom apply to me. Entertaining to read about the trials and life of another Mom…
It was good but not my style.
Anyone who has kids and or a career will absolutely appreciate this book, she is spot on with her observations.
Humorous
boring
This author is very funny. A modern day Erma Bombeck.
She was writing the story of my life.
This book was an easy read. Good for the beach and fairly enjoyable. I could relate to the clumsiness of the author but I thought she is a little too tough on herself.
It was a light read -perfect for a summer read and I finished in 1 day. The writer has a great sense of humor and I smiled through most of the short quips.
Had me at the title….kept me until the end.
Moments of real life
This is book of belly laughs.
Rambling; not as funny as it was hyped to be.
I loved her self -deprecating sense of humor, her obvious affection for her family and her very amusing take on being a wife and mother!!
Relatable and hilarious. Laugh out loud funny but so true.
The 1st half was better than the last. I found myself skipping over the food chit chat and child-bragging. I identified with some but unless you’re a very upper middle class suburban woman with teenagers who are almost perfect, then it’s just annoying at times. It’s hard to think a lawyer with retired husband on a good pension needs to sell books so much that there are shameless plugs scattered throughout.
This is my first read from this author and I thought she was very funny detailing life in her home. It is likely many woman would be able to relate to some of the stories she tells. I know I did. If I see another of her books come through on Book Bub, I will get it.
Loved it!
The writer is most talented and is an excellent writer. She has a knack for telling a story.
Unfortunately, other than a couple of maybe weak smiles, I did not find the book as wonderfully funny as described at the time of purchase. I found the pages with the notes in them between chapters disconcerting. Dear Author – lots of that stuff would have been far better incorporated in each chapter.
BUT…and here is the big BUT…my guess is that this author is hilarious in person, and her knack for telling a tale is the way she engages other people…leaving pauses in where appropriate, eye rolls and other gestures, and tones of voice that give the listener some additional background. This material would be really fabulous if delivered as a stand up comedian. The stories lacked the oomph, the air, the life that folks that no doubt know her like her alpha and beta readers probably found hysterical because they knew her, that we as down the line readers just don’t get. The best and funniest bit…an parent who is an attorney that wears Wonder Woman stuff! Great visual.
I only read a few pages and then deleted the book. I guess I am used to a story line. I couldn’t “get into” the book.
