Equal parts Dexter and 50 Shades, this is the eagerly awaited new novel from A. R. Torre, author of the award winning erotic thriller, The Girl in 6E. The rules are the same. I can’t open the door. I can’t leave. I can’t kill anyone. The only difference is, I don’t set the rules anymore. Guards in grey uniforms do. It is everything I never wanted and everything I always deserved. I write to you … and everything I always deserved. I write to you now, from a prison cell. My home for the next twenty to thirty years.
That’s the going term for murder.

If You Dare is the third installment in A.R. Torre’s dark/erotic thriller series titled Deanna Madden. I felt most connected to Deanna’s character in this book for sure. She’s scared and for the first time regretful – truly mortified at her actions. We get to see some of her history here: what happened to her mom and how Mike became so invested in helping her to name a few. We get to meet the uber-swoonworthy Dr. Derek OMG! And we get to witness her most inner conflict about who she is – good or evil – and what she is really capable of…the fragility Ms. Torre created in Deanna was breathtaking. The result of it all left me sad but very understanding of the direction the author chose to go in. I’m not mad at you Ms. Torre
The storyline in If You Dare alternates frequently from present to past…a recent past actually, one that Deanna can’t remember. Lots of present-day consequences are in effect and Deanna is clueless. What happened??? Ms. Torre allows the reader to learn about what transpired right along with Deanna and there is certainly no immediate gratification. You have to wait for it. But it’s a ride well worth taking and the suspense it creates is off the charts. Personally, this level of suspense gives me a stomachache and I’m not a huge fan of drawing it out just for the sake of it so I had to keep one star for a rainy day. But seriously, this one is a superb addition to an already amazing series. Check it out!!!
This is one of my all time favorite series. I decided to do a Halloween re-read and saw I had not reviewed this one. So. Let’s fix that. Deanna breaks in this book. I really can’t say too much without giving anything away, but I felt her anxiety, pain, and hatred in this book. I really hope Alessandra Torre has it in her to revisit this world again. I would love to see these characters again.
Oh Jeremy, Jeremy, Jeremy how do I love thee? Let me count the ways:
I love your brown overalls
Your big box cutter
Your ripling muscles
Your love for Deanna
Your bravery
He’s just lush!
Then there’s Deanna with her ever moving, thinking, studying mind. Eyes that hide a multitude of sins. She looks hot but really she is planning how many pieces she needs to chop your body into before she feeds it to the pigs.
After the awakening of the monster in the Girl in 6E, then the prodding and poking of the monster in Do Not Disturb, the monster is trapped and caged in If You Dare. But that sneaky fox Deanna is cunning.
I had an oh no scary face moment. Then a stamp my feet boooooooo moment. Alessandra you don’t play fair.
This series just gets better and better. More Madden please and dammit, I deserve more Jeremy too.
It’s a perfect ending to Deanna Madden series. JessGil19 is sweet and innocent, in facade only. Her raw thoughts and borderline manic personality gets her into deep trouble this time. Her control , she thought she always had, seems to be slipping her.
a thrilling ride , good read
