(This is a “Sequel Series” to the Jack Turner Suspense Series – picks right up after Book 4 but can easily be read first)In Book 1 of the new Joe Boyd Suspense Series, Lt. Joe Boyd and his partner Hank Jensen have been tasked with creating a brand new Cold Case Squad for the Culpepper Police Department. Hoping to garner some much-needed positive publicity, their captain asks them to solve a … solve a string of unsolved murders from the 1980’s. Before they get far, Joe is interrupted with an alarming request from his good friend, Professor Jack Turner. Jack and Rachel believe they have stumbled upon evidence of a horrific crime dating back to the early 60’s, when their lake front house was built. Now it looks like Joe’s first case—instead of creating good publicity—might expose a terrible scandal involving a prominent Culpepper family’s ugly secret, one they’ve managed to keep hidden for over 50 years.

Sadly, a very believable story about the horrors of prejudice. A unique mystery. Very well written.
I’ll read anything by Dan Walsh. I’d even read his grocery list.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The story line was great. I had a hard time putting it down
I always enjoy Walsh’s books. This one wasn’t as engrossing as the Jake Turner mysteries but still entertaining. I like Joe Boyd’s character because he is an average “Joe” ( pun intended) and balances his job with his family.
This book describes a difficult time in our country’s past. Important to remember, but hard to relive.
A very interesting mystery. There are twists and turns that kept me reading into the night. Some wit but some sadness as well.
Sergeant Joe is asked to head up a new cold case squad for his small town. The lead in to the first case is fascinating – there are clues found in the wall of a 60s lake house. How creative is that?! It’s really two stories in one as it jumps back and forth between the original case and present day. I was entranced! Dan Walsh builds great characters and wonderfully complex story lines.
A cold case dual timeline mystery. Reading the back story interspersed with the current investigation gives a good idea as to the outcome, but it’s interesting to see how the modern crew pieces together the fragments of a half-century old case to find the solution.
I enjoy Mr. Walsh’s books. They keep me wanting to finish the book in one sitting! I also appreciate not having to worry about foul language or embarrassing sex scenes. One of my new favorite authors!
If you are looking for a fairy tale, look somewhere else. But if you are OK with fiction that could have been fact. You will want to read this one.
Great story. Brought 60’s back to life for me. Was in HS then. Well representative of the time with realistic, human characters. Kept my interest. Only downside for me was I figured who did the crime quite early. Not sure of victim until later. Seeing the process to prove them was interesting. New author for me. Looking forward to more from him.
Enjoyed the characters and the way the mystery builds up from past to present
Realistic portrayal of the deep south in the ’60s. Interesting cold case that seemed very realistic. Kept me reading!!
This book is a fictional mystery account of the the very real racial turbulence of the 60-70s which I lived as a young adult and younger siblings who lived in Florida and traveled quite frequently. This book rings true.
Thank you for this realistic tale, beautifully written and clearly explained. Excellent detective work on a delicate, heartbreaking time in history in our country.
Page turner
Love Dan Walsh’s books!
Excellent read.
This book is about a murder mystery that Jack and Joe are involved in plus about the Civil Rights movement.
Dan Walsh gives us a hard hitting Christian suspense with plenty of twists and turns.
I loved the story and the multifaceted cast of characters.
I highly recommend this book for those love Christian suspense.
Dan is such a great writer, I really enjoy his books. This one was so hard to think of how human beings were treated just because of their skin color. I know the book is fiction but based on things that happened, tear jerker.
