This book hooked me right from the beginning! If She Were Blind, the first in a series inspired by real life events with themes of social justice, female empowerment, and exposure of Hollywood corruption and racism in our country, is a book everyone should read. Estlyn, the protagonist, a person of color, is both a believable and relatable character and her interactions play out like a modern film noir storyboard. Wylde is also a master of humor. Various times throughout this short novel, I discovered myself laughing harder than I ever have while reading. How Laney manages to weave such a depth of elements into her novel while presenting such hilarious situations to balance the depth is a talent I will forever envy! My only complaint is the length of 40,000 words and the stupefying cliffhanger. However, short novels are trending and I get to look forward to an entire series, which also means shorter periods between release dates. If tv networks were smart, they should be clawing each other to snatch this series. With plenty of believable drama, laugh out loud moments, and sexy situations and characters, If She Were Blind is well worthy of five out of five stars and my anxious hands long for its sequel
I just loved it, had to buy the next one in the series and devour it. The main character is a bad ass in a very good way!
A bit labyrinthine yet intriguing and unraveling…….
Definitely recommend this book…..series! I enjoyed this book from the beginning through the next few books of the series!
Waiting for her next book in the series.
This book was okay, as far as it goes. But that is the problem, it doesn’t go very far. If you don’t intent on reading the series, just reading this one book, will be unsatisfying.
This is not a stand alone book. That fact should have been disclosed in the description, hence my low rating. On a positive note, the characters and plot were engaging. A good story motivates me to follow and read everything the author has written. Unfortunately an incomplete story has the opposite effect. This is the end of the line for me.
I could have done with a different ending but great book!
Interesting take on justice, and I really fell in love with the characters in the book. Great reading with a unique twist. I enjoyed this and am looking forward to reading the next on in the series.
Very good plot but foul language and incomplete ending put me off.
Loved the unpredictability of the story. Characters are real and relatable. Funny and lots of action.
If She Were Blind is the first book in a the After 12 series by Laney Wylde. I love both those names…but I am really in love/lust with After 12. when you find out the meaning behind it I think you will be too. Sometimes when you read a new author, especially one that you fall in love with their first book, you wonder if it is going to be a one hit wonder or will they be able to continuously give you the goods. Wylde has delivered the goods again with If She Were Blind.
Estlyn Collins is a 25 year old lawyer who gets called in when someone has tried every legal recourse and the hands of justice has been tied. She is someone you want on your side. Having lived through the foster system, tragedy and injustice herself, she has a different point of view on how to get the perfect justice all while trying to keep herself in the shadows.
Wylde does a skillful job on weaving a story that is dark, intricate and thought provoking. Her heroine is someone that I would love to pick the mind of. A strong, independent woman who having seen the horrors of the world longs to set wrongs right. Even when putting herself, at times, to close to the fire.
Yet, with her latest case she may have just chosen the wrong move.
As with any book I review I try not to spoil them for you, so please be warned that there are twists, turns, corners, and walls that come up out of no where. Laney Wylde may just be a magician with her ability to conjure the perfect scenarios and the ways out that no one else can see.
An amazing contemporary romance. I love the diversity in this book, the revenge plots, and the steamy romance scenes.
