I love a mystery with Christian aspects.
I got this book free on book bud but now that I want the next one it will cost me $8.99 which I don’t want to spend. I didn’t realize it would be a series, which is my mistake but I’m hoping it will be offered at a lower price soon. This was a good Christian based mystery.
Awesome book…I couldn’t put it down!
I could hardly put this book down, it just kept me on the edge of my seat and the characters are the kind you just get caught up with and feel a certain amount of “sadness” when you read the last page…feels like your leaving behind some friends.
This is book one in a three book series and it ends in a cliffhanger so you are warned not to read this one until you have the entire set available. Great story. Wow. I’m asking myself why I waited to read this series until now. It is sooo good. It is page turning. Heart wrenching. Suspenseful. Even hopeful. This story is truly so well done.
I’ve been a fan of Terri Blackstock’s novels for years. She immerses the reader into the drama from the opening sentence and doesn’t let go until the end. The twists and turns keep the reader on the edge of their seat. I read this book in a few hours.
Recommend to readers who enjoy clean suspense.
I borrowed a copy from my local library. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
3 books I wished never ended
This is a totally new genre for me, Christian-based suspense thriller. I received this advance copy from the publisher and NetGalley in return for an honest review. At the time I requested it, I didn’t realize it was Christian-based or Part 1 of a series.
The story begins with Casey Cox making her way out of town, and we are wondering why. We soon find out she is wanted for the murder of her best friend, and we are then left wondering why she has a distrust of the police. To say any more would be to spoil the plot for you, so let’s just say this was well-written and suspenseful. It was actually quite refreshing to read a book without any profanity.
If I had known this was part of a series, I probably wouldn’t have requested it. Normally, I don’t like the endings and the feeling that you are compelled to buy the next book to see how it ends (or if there is another continuation, heaven forbid!). As for the Christianity theme, it was really very much in the background and not overwhelming. There are only two characters that are central in this theme, and one is not Casey. If this had been a character with a New Age outlook, no one would think twice.
This was a good-paced, suspenseful story, and overall an enjoyable read.

I’ve read one romance novel by Blackstock, but this was my first of her suspense novels. Her experience shows in her ability to reveal just enough to keep the reader genuinely interested without feeling like you’re being jerked around or forced to keep reading.
I didn’t realize the main plot would stretch over three novels, but Blackstock handles it beautifully — book one wraps up well while still leaving part of the story open ended for book two.
I’ll definitely read the rest of this series!
Great book…but you must read the whole series of 3.
It has been eons since I last read a book by Terri Blackstock, and my…how I have missed them! Her ability to create realistic characters surrounded by a web of suspense is a quality I have long appreciated in all of her stories. Most of them seem to be written with the reader trying to figure out who the killer is, but this one has an innocent main character on the run for her life.
If I Run was a mystery within a mystery, and Casey manages to stay one step ahead of police while trying to solve a missing person’s case that she stumbles onto by accident. Her ingenuity in getting a job, getting a car, finding a place to live were all necessary life skills that were written in a believable manner considering she had to do all of them while staying off the radar as much as possible. Once she discovers a picture on a phone that is tied to a missing person’s case, her carefully constructed house of cards comes crashing down.
Dylan was an excellent parallel character in this story as his past had some baggage of its own. He is hired to track down Casey as a person of interest in his friend’s murder case. What he didn’t expect was to encounter detectives at the police department unwilling to give him the information he needed. As things are slowly being uncovered, he realizes that Casey and Brent were trying to do some detective work of their own, and dirty cops may be all around him.
What slowly became my favorite thing about If I Run was listening to it in audiobook form. I’m normally a diehard physical book reader, but listening to this story in particular was an excellent way to enjoy it! In fact, I had to completely stop everything I was doing and listen with bated breath to the last two hours – a worthwhile use of my time!
If I Run ended as a cliffhanger, so I know I’ll be reading (or listening) to the next book in the series very soon!
Loved it. Could hardly wait for the next in the series.
This book was really good. There were many aspects of the book that made it a great and enjoyable read. My favorite thing though was how it talked about suicide. The main character, Casey, is feeling pretty hopeless, but comes to thing conclusion “Taking my own life would be too selfish. Too many dominos would fall, too many people would be impacted, and not just for a day or a week or a month, but for years… decades.
You can’t just check out and think it will all be over. It won’t be over for anyone who loves you. You’ll only leave them to run after the pieces that scatter in the angry wind. You’ll leave them trying to desperately solve the problems you wouldn’t… all while plugging their own wounds. Even if you’re like me, single without children, you could impact generations.
Is quick relief worth it?
No, it isn’t. I’d rather take the pain myself so they won’t have too.”
And some of what she ends up doing, that she wouldn’t have been there to do if she had made another choice, further proves she made the right choice.
I love Casey, Dylan, Casey’s sister, and some of the characters Casey meets along the way. I also really enjoyed the mystery and writing style of this story.
It had me from the first sentence. My all time favorite book of this time period.
I enjoyed the story and characters. Definitely worth reading
It was a good read, just not one of her better books.
Great story!
Worth reading all three books. Great story
This is a trilogy but I’m still kind of upset that the protagonist is left hanging! I’m completely caught up with these characters and in this story. This is Blackstock’s best book yet. I can’t wait until the next one in this series.
I read all three and they were sooo good!
