“What lies beneath my veiled perfection is the ugly truth—my truth, my reality, my destiny.”
Vivian Graham has an acceptance letter into Harvard, a badass tattoo, loyal friends, ties to marijuana, a penchant for Dunkin’ Donuts, and her pesky V-card.
Everyday she takes the Red Line to her job at The Green Pot in Boston while her … in Boston while her friends enter the coveted, black iron gates to higher learning. The ramifications from a tragic accident have put her life on hold while time marches on for everyone around her.
After graduating from Harvard Law, Boston native, Oliver Konrad, moves to Portland to start his career and his life. Three years later, after a horrific discovery, he returns home to trade in his three-piece suit for leather work boots and his suburban home for a condo in Cambridge.
All he brought back to the East Coast was an aversion to pillows and secrets he keeps hidden behind a mysterious locked door. Oliver’s days are predictable and his nights are lonely until he meets Vivian on the subway. Her long raven hair, green eyes, and mile-long legs are achingly sexy, but the way she “innocently” fingers and licks her Boston Kreme doughnut can only be described in two words—complete torture.
When their paths cross at every turn, laughter is abundant, friendship is easy, and love is unintentional. However, their future seems improbable.

My gawd, this book is a warm, strong, heart-clenching fist that refuses to let go. You’ll surrender to it through the tears, the smiles, and the soul-nourishing sighs. Jewel E. Ann never disappoints.
Same 26 alphabets in English language, yet why do they effect me more….because jewel puts them as ink in her pen to tattoo on our souls forever.
“sometimes ordinary words have such extraordinary meaning.”
This frustratingly angsty story smashed on my heart like a meteor and left a huge crater!
I wanted bash open the door in the sexy landscaper-Oliver Konrad’s home, that he had bolted shut…who does that..bolts anymore!!
I wanted to shake Vivian hard to let go of her insecurities. Why couldn’t she understand that her scars added to her beauty as a survivor. She has earned her stripes dammit!! Well..like a females on earth, she was easier to convince and stronger than a man.
Their sexual vibes were electric, charging up the aura around them. Unlike poles attract and they smashed and fused together, rocking the rusty twin bed like a train screeching on its wheels.
“the symphony of Vivian and her childhood bed getting seriously nailed by the hottest guy to ever walk the planet.”
Outside of the bed, their slow burning relationship is rocky, confrontational and secretive.
They’re opposites in wants, similar in needs. she needs a relationship based on emotions without the need for physical gratification, while he’s only got provision for a physical release without the emotional investment. They really need to find the middle road somewhere!!
This is my 16th book by jewel and she STILL manages to have me agape with her superlative story embellished with unforgettable lines.
“I’m the sunset, she is the sunrise, and the only thing between us is a world of darkness.”
Emotions fly everywhere, guts get wrenched, tears are flowing freely and you can hear some Kindles being thrown to the walls somewhere!
It’s a heavy involvement book. You’re not only invested but fixed deposited and locked up in the vault kinda committed to the passionate-st story from her coffers. I chewed my fingernails to the quick, was ugghing and Gaahing all along. Wanted to slap Oli, hurt him physically at points and then hig him hard.. Talk about a full range of emotions!!!
But the one central theme is forgiveness and the whys of it. I have just read Wise Tarryn’s words that forgiveness is not for them, it’s for YOU. So that you walk away with a soft heart, bitterness doesn’t let you harden it.
Jewel shares the same sentiment through Vivian and Oliver’s relationship . Its smooth sailing one moment and turbulent the next, break up, make up all making it a rocky road to HEA
“Hating someone does that to you. It’s a virus that infiltrates your life and takes hold of everyone that matters to you, then it rips them away one at a time until you’re all alone, empty, and dead inside. Hatred breeds resentment and murders happiness. It’s opportunistic and will suck the life out of you until you’re nothing but an empty shell.
Forgiveness is letting go and letting go is painful. It’s not something we do for others; it’s something we do for ourselves.”
See what I mean, it’s like she reinvents words, heals the soul, rejuvenates heart…all because she writes a book!. Sometimes I have to stop in the middle of a scene and stare at the wall, because I’m so happy that I cry, or an epiphany has me frozen. I have many a times used her books to heal myself and reprogramme my life
It’s public knowledge that I am a worshipper of all words jewel. It’s always tough task to pick something after I’ve indulged in her book.
“It’s impossible to float a boat in a puddle when it’s already set sail in the ocean.”
Jewel has many times told me that she loves me, so I’d like to remind her – No Take Backs Missy!!
I’m only two books away from her full kitty…so I jump on Holding you now

I just could not put this book down .. It was just awesome !!
The characters in this book just grabbed me and I feel in love…
I think so far this is my favorite book of hers..
It was so good i don’t want to write to much and ruin it for anyone.. It has love, friendship, suspense and hot sex! What more could you ask for !!
It is more than obvious that JEA is talented. Her writing is smooth and clean. I never have to stop and re-read anything trying to figure out what the author is trying to say or questioning her reality. Even if I don’t always agree with her views. This was yet another exceptional book by JEA.
Our h, Vivian (one of my least favorite names), was undoubtedly quirky and maybe a little OTT at times but her heart was in the right place. Her pain an insecurities, while understandable, paled in comparison to the H’s, Oliver, pain and agony. I won’t go into details; let’s just say that I am not sure there is much else that is worse. You may figure it out early but it won’t ruin the story. Oliver is a wonderful man. He really is and I wish I had met someone as wonderful as him. He and Viv have a great relationship even if much of it takes place in the bedroom. There is a ridiculous amount of sex. Usually this would ruin a book by taking up too much of of the plot space. The only thing that kept me from not finishing the book is that the scenes were usually short and easy to skip over. I guess there are couples that have this kind of sex life, I just don’t think I have ever met any. If I have, the subject never came up in conversation. There didn’t seem to be much dating and getting to know each other. They eluded to doing other things so I guess they did. They were also pretty obsessed with each other. I guess it’s a testament of JEA’s talent that that doesn’t ruin the book either. The plot was pretty strong to hold up under that and their sex life.
There were many very good side characters and side stories that carried the book along, as well. Oliver’s brother, Chance, was pretty fun. Alex, Viv’s roommate, was a riot. All of their friends and family were wonderful. Even our main couple’s parents were a treasure.
The book was great. Not my favorite but by no means bad. I’m not sure I liked how everything was worked out in the ending. I have different views on some of the touchier subjects but nothing that is important enough to take off stars. I still would recommend this book and I will still give it a solid four stars.
Vivian & Oliver! Quite the couple and quite the story! This story has many ups and downs but so much fun along the way! Many laugh out loud moments and some sad too but all in all a story full of Love!

“I should let you go, but you’ve become my sunrise. I need you when the darkness threatens to take over.”
“When is that?”
“Always.”
I can always trust Jewel to bring the right dose of humor and seriousness with her stories. Her stories are realistic, even in their humor. She makes some of the most outlandish scenes, plausible and downright comical. She also brings us weighty moments that play on our emotions because of there realism. Jewel brought all those things in this book!
“Forgiveness is letting go. And letting go is painful. It’s not something we do for others, it’s something we do for ourselves.”
A book about baring your scars, internal and external. This was a story layered with comedic moments, but with a deeper turmoil. Separate pains that both these characters were harboring, but needed to learn how to move past and finally heal. It took finding each other, and finding a unique love that can help open their eyes to a future they never realized they could have, together, but in order for them to have a successful life together, they both need to move past the pain of their pasts.
“He’s my simple perfection. I like ME when I’m with him.”
“She is my antidote for the poison that is my past.”
I can not tell you how much I LOVED Vivian and her humorous personality! Obviously, I loved her name *wink* And Oliver, when I’m reincarnated (if I actually believed in that), I would search out a man JUST like him. He is perfection. Oliver and Vivian together were absolute perfection!
If you’re looking for a book that makes you giggle, makes your heart clench, makes you swoon, and ultimate makes you shy with contentedness in the end, THIS is the book for you.
4 stars!

AUDIO REVIEW
I listened to the audio for this book. I absolutely loved the female narrator, Audrey Vincent. She took creative liberties of her own and truly brought the characters to life with her inflections and added personality that she brought to the characters. I was not only laughing at times from the writing but I was also laughing thanks to Audrey’s ability to bring the characters, and their story, to life. I could “FEEL” the characters emotions while she narrated.
Marcio Catalano was tougher sell for me and was hard to listen to at first. Idk if it was the studio he recorded in or what, but it sounded like he was in a “fish bowl”. It did even out as the chapters went on and sounded better as the book progressed, but I didn’t love him as much as Audrey.
Overall, I was happy with the audio!
4 stars
The characters are strong, funny and endearing. The plot is well written so that we cry with the characters, but also enjoy the funny, happy moments and the book isn’t too dark. The characters stay ‘in character’, reacting as we come to expect them to, and the twists and turns of the plots are believable.
I haven’t read other reviews, but I can imagine that some might feel that Oliver was ‘healed’ too swiftly, but if you look back over the story, it is a slow healing that reveals itself in lots of little small advances and moments – I can’t be too specific or I’d spoil it for others. I did find it to be believable though.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it kept me hooked from start to finish. The supporting characters were well written and added support, laughter and drama. Overall, a fantastic read.
Loved it..my favorite from this author
Idle Bloom is emotion. It’s in every word and whatever action and choices the characters Vivian and Oliver make. Damn how I loved Vivian. She’s hilarious and had so much heart. Her donuts addiction and her aversion to underwear are already memorable scenes to me. Oliver made me swoon the moment he and Vivian locked eyes on the subway. I was immediately intrigued with what they both were hiding. What’s on Vivian’s back and what’s behind that locked door in Oliver’s house? I couldn’t wait to find out and along the way these two people fall head over heels in love. It was intense, hot as hell and funny.
Yes, Vivian is a quirky, intelligent and funny young woman and she affects the people around her with her personality. Oliver is a man with traumatic past and hides it from Vivian. I enjoyed how they both tried to navigate through a new relationship and also with Oliver’s past which has caught up with him. It affects them both tremendously.
I loved Idle Bloom! This story took a hold on me thanks to Vivian, Oliver, her friend Alex and Oliver’s brother Chance. It’s about love, friendship and forgiveness. Another gem from Jewel E. Ann.

Very few books that I’ve read have I felt that they should be a movie. Most books are just entertainment, and I close the book and be done with it and feel it was a good story and move on. This book, NEEDS to be a movie. I laughed. I cried. And I cried some more. I’m teary eyed just writing this review. Wow. It was just that great! This was a story of a man and a woman who knew they were meant to be together, but one struggles with dealings of the past. And what a horrible struggle it is. But the other knows and sees that to move on together, the struggle has to be dealt with and peace needs to be made. No matter how hard it will be to deal with it. I have a few favorite lines from this amazing writer, Jewel E. Ann: “Sometimes all I see in the depths of his blue eyes are oceans of unshed tears and a permanent void that once filled by something…someone very special”. “I hope every day you take each other’s breath away. I hope every kiss feels like the first but ends like the last. I hope you always see the best versions of yourselves reflected in each other’s eyes…..But mostly, I hope you wake up every morning next to each other because there’s no place in this world you’d rather be, instead of having nowhere else to go. May you always be each other’s home”. So tell me again, how is this story NOT a movie?
What an adorable book!!! I beyond loved the banter between Liv and Oli. Was so priceless. Then to watch their souls unfold to each other and bare it all out. So emotional. Very good book!! To see Liv go through the motions of opening up to Oli about her personal tragedy then her helping Oli get through his heartbreaking past, beyond powerful!
