The beginning of the story was different meaning it didn’t give much explanation why the girl was living in Alaska. She & her boyfriend saw someone get killed but it didn’t appear to be real. I suspected the ending. It is just different. I was given a free copy from the author. This review is my own opinion.
Such a great read I will for sure continue reading the series and more from this amazing author:)
I really enjoyed this book and looking forward to the next one which I’m going to start right away:)
Well, this was a tear jerker for me especially at the end. I really like suspense & this is a book that I wanted to keep reading & not put down until I finished. I loved Madeline as I like having children in the books I read. I think they add to the story. I enjoyed reuniting with Sandy again. And how God really does make all things work out for the best. I was sorry that Rafael got in so deep & was glad Lacy grew in the story. “I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.”
It seems she can trust no one…
I got hooked on Alana Terry’s books several years ago when I read her first North Korean book, Beloved Daughter. It’s been awhile since then and in recent years I’ve mostly been reading her Kennedy Stern Christian Suspense series where she took on controversial subjects with grace and grit.
Enter Identity Theft in the Alaskan Refuge Christian Suspense series. I’ve really been looking forward to the series as I know the author’s own residence in Alaska adds a rare authenticity to the fine details.
Identity Theft is more of a traditional romantic suspense than Alana Terry’s previous book, which, was something I really enjoyed. It was fun seeing her ace yet another genre. The book was a quick read, I was actually surprised at how quickly I breezed through it, perfect for a boring afternoon or quiet evening.
Loved the characters and trying to guess the motivation behind some of their actions. So, if you are in the mood for an easy to read romantic suspense novel set in remote Alaska, well, may I suggest Alana Terry’s exciting Identity Theft…
(I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)
Identity Theft by Alana Terry is a fun, quick read. Lacy is in witness protection deep in Alaska and her past suddenly catches up to her. She has to discover who she can trust and what she really wants. This is a short novel which makes it a perfect weekend read. I loved the complicated backstories of the characters. There was some good suspense in the novel as well. At times, I found some of the main characters a little confusing, in that their words and actions did not always seem to match. My favorite part of this novel was the details about life in Alaska. The description of the bugs was crazy! This is the author’s first novel in this series and it is a good debut. I look forward to more in this series. I received a digital copy of this book from the author with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
Identify theft
Lacy is in the witness protection program. After living in Alaska for several years she is ready for a change. But things happen that are unexpected. Someone from the past shows up. Is that someone safe to be with?
I love books that are set in Alaska. A place I always wanted to visit. The character in this book did not it there. I didn’t realize that the mosquitos would be so bad there.
Even though the book is short there is a lot of action packed in. A lot of twists and turns. I couldn’t figure out who was the bad guy. Read and see if you can.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. This review is my own opinion.
Hiding in Alaska, making a new life and feeling safe.. One slip and her cover is blown! It was hard enough to imagine being stalked for retaliation, but when they went after her young daughter! Wow! One of those, didn’t see that coming stories! Great suspense, a little romance and one, surprised me ending..
My Thoughts on Identity Theft:
Wow. Great book. The first book I’ve read by this author but I cannot wait for the next two titles in this series to be released! Great writing that draws you in. Definitely some little bits of didn’t see that coming but also some spots of totally knew that was gonna happen.
Highly recommend this book. It’s a mystery, suspense, even a few murders going on here, type of book that is a fast read. It did not take me long to get through the book. Written in a way that you’re not having to stop and think. It flows and keeps you involved so you’re not confused as to which character is which or what just happened.
This book made me think about my life a bit. What do I consider important? At first, while reading this book I was curious why the title. It didn’t make sense to me. No one stole her ID, they weren’t going around impersonating her.
And then it hit me.
Identity Theft.
Her identity as herself, as her own person, having the ability to choose her own fate has been taken from her. But was it ever really hers to begin with?
I enjoyed watching Jo or Lacy or whatever you want to call her to develop from a bit of a shallow character into finding who she truly was both in her thinking and in her walk with God.
How can she move forward into her future or be present in the present when she can’t come to terms with her past?
Also enjoyed the thinking and rationalizing between the two men in her life and loved the ending!
I recommend this book. It’s a fast read and keeps you engaged. There is violence in the story but nothing elaborate or that is going to give someone nightmares. No reason to not read this book at night.

Reading books from this author always helps me draw closer to God. She writes stories that have great lessons and scriptures that enhance the story. This story was an easy and quick read. I enjoyed the suspense and learned so much about the Witness Protection Program. I can’t imagine having to give up everything that identifies you and starting over.
Lacy happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time with her boyfriend several years ago. They witness something that puts them both in danger. Lacy is whisked away to Alaska to start a new life. She is cut off from her family and friends. She often wonders about her boyfriend. Did she really see him die that fateful day? How long will she have to pretend to be Jo?
I learned a lot of interesting things about Alaska in the book. One of the intriguing things was the abundance of mosquitoes they have. I never thought about them having a mosquito problem. In Texas where I live, mosquitoes take over neighborhoods. Someday I would like to visit Alaska and see the snow and beautiful landscape.
Two people really stand out in this story. One of them is Kurtis who is a state trooper. He becomes involved with Lacy and they develop a nice relationship. Things seem to be moving forward but Lacy can’t seem to let go of her feelings for her boyfriend. Will Kurtis be able to help her feel secure? Can she learn to trust a man who loves her and knows that God will protect them?
The other important person in the story is Sandy who is Lacy’s foster mother. The love and compassion she has for Lacy is so special . She speaks words of wisdom to her and tries to get her to let go of the past. I loved when Sandy said to Lacy, ” I always like to picture my tears are the rain that’s gonna water the flowers God’s sending my way? What a beautiful way to express how God heals us and shows us a new beginning.
The suspense in the book is good and I did figure out most of it, but it was still fun to read how the author puts twists in there and keeps the action going. The story reminds me to be thankful for my family and to remember that “God has a plan for our lives.” He will always be there to protect us.
I received a copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Talk about being bored with your life, and being careful what you wish for, will it be safe, or living on the edge?
The author gives us a young woman who has been living in a small town in Alaska, with a bit of emphasis on the size and abundance of mosquitos, and has been placed in witness protection.
We begin with a man who is head over heels for our girl, but can she continue to live in the safe world?
You will never see all that is coming here, the author places on a roller coaster, and where we end you end up may be over a cliff!
I sure didn’t see the ending this story has, wow! Talk about surprises!
This one will keep you on your toes!

Identity Theft is part of the Alaskan Refuge series by Alana Terry. Having read a number of this author’s books, I was looking forward to reading this one and was not disappointed. Terry expertly draws readers right into her stories and this story is no exception. Lacy/Jo is in witness protection through no fault of her own. Her whole world was robbed from her, her identity, her boyfriend, and basically her future. The past cannot be changed but what about her future–Lacy was tired of allowing others to dictate what her life would be. With great characters, twists and turns to the plot, romantic tension, a touch of faith, lots of suspense and action, Identity Theft keeps the reader’s interest high. Loved the ending…but you’ll have to read that for yourself. Be sure to get your book as soon as possible.

*3.5 stars
Identity Theft was a fast-paced page turner with mystery lurking around every corner! I read it on my kindle but according to Goodreads it’s only 137 pages long. This means it’s a shorter read that’s safer on the bedtime should you choose to read it in one sitting–because don’t we all struggle with that??
Although I savored the fast pace of this book, I have to say I wish it were longer to give more development to Lacy’s past and the events that led to her current circumstances. The suspense was high but the depth felt lacking. I also struggled with a piece that I’m afraid to discuss in my review for fear of spoiling. I think the safest I can say it is that the voice of Christianity in this book really needed to come from a different character for multiple reasons.
Even though I wished it were longer, the action in this book held me captive with the pages essentially turning themselves. My mind was reeling as I tried to fit all of the puzzle pieces together ahead of Lacy. When it seemed like there was a moment of calm, something else would happen to kick the action back into high-gear. There was truly no safe place to set the book down! After I finished reading I was hoping that there would be more to her story later in the series but it looks like each book is a complete standalone. I have the other two books in the series that I’ll be reading very soon so I’m anxious to see how they compare to this one and if there are any character connections between them.
Overall I enjoyed this read and would recommend to suspense fans. I look forward to reading more from the author in the near future.

Welcome to small-town Alaska, and a new, fast-paced thriller by Alana Terry! We get to know Lacy and her mother Sandy best; I appreciate each woman for who she is when living with Christ. The very small-town setting is described through the eyes of one who lives it, mosquitoes and all. The mystery is somewhat complex, having begun about four years earlier in Massachusetts.
Lacy is an East Coast girl at heart, studying theater, with the goal of a New York City acting career with her artist sweetheart, Raphael. She lives with her foster parents, Pastor Carl and his wife Sandy. They are amazing Christians that I would love to have at my church. Not only would I want to have someone like Sandy in my life, I would like to be more like her. Her wisdom results from many years of walking out her own struggles that she freely shares when appropriate. Lacy could not have a better loving mother. Then everything changed.
Lacy is in witness protection in Glennallen, Alaska. Raphael was killed in an accident the night she thought he was going to propose to her, and she testified in court against the men behind the murder she and Raphael had seen. She thought witness protection would be temporary until learning at trial that the killers had deep mafia ties.
Glennallen is not where she wants to be. Lacy, now Jo, is a daycare employee and weary of it. She had to leave college, her parents, her dream of acting. The town is small and she earns very little money. She has been dating Kurtis, a state trooper, for over a year, having met due to his adorable daughter at the day care. Madeline, now 4, wants Jo to be her new mommy, but Lacy has not yet gotten over Raphael. Jo hasn’t told Kurtis anything of her past, using only the witness protection tale and of her boyfriend dying in an accident.
Jo makes Kurtis a wonderful dinner and tells him she can’t see him anymore, that she is going to move at the end of the summer. Kurtis proposes to Jo, willing to wait and join her when his current commitment is up as a state trooper. That night, something unplanned happens, something Lacy has dreamed of many, many times but doesn’t react as she thought she would. It changes everything, taking her on a wild trip through Alaska in which she learns she can either trust God or stay angry and bitter.
At first, I was put off by the roller coaster of Lacy’s emotions. Then I tried on her shoes, and realized how difficult living a different life, as a different person, far from home were for a young woman. She was unprepared for the job she had. She was living with anger, including anger at the Lord, and gave up studying the Bible, praying, or attending church, except with Kurtis. She shows me exactly how I can be, despite the age difference, when I am going through crises in my own human weakness.
This is a very good Christian thriller! The story itself is exciting, even though I guessed some of the mystery early on. This is also an excellent novel of spiritual lessons and ultimately the love and grace of God. There are surprises to be had, sadness and joy, and it is worth the read, especially for those who struggle with the weight of their own will. The end is very satisfactory, and I highly recommend it!
From a thankful heart: I received a copy of this ebook from CelebrateLit, and this is my honest review.
‘For you know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’ Jeremiah 29:11
I would imagine that you, like me, have never really thought about what witness protection would mean in your life. The author has done a fabulous job of bringing those feelings to light and I’m quite sure I would react the same way as Lacy (Jo) did. Imagine leaving everything that makes you an individual and starting over at something that doesn’t even interest you. Would you feel lost and welcome any news from your former life?
Between witness protection, being run off the road, Mafia connections and being shot at, this edge of your seat suspense kept me wondering who really could be trusted. I am looking forward to reading more from this author!

This was a quick, easy to read, suspenseful story set in the beautiful area of Alaska. I wish the relationships in the story had developed more, but for a shorter story (137 pages), they were believable and I enjoyed getting to know them. There were times I was frustrated with Lacy/Jo and her on and off again feelings for Kurtis. But the author did a good job of expressing why Lacy had trust issues and how she was working thru them during the book.
I really enjoyed this story-the characters, clean romance and suspense. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
This is the second book by this author that I’ve read, I was drawn in from the first page and couldn’t wait to see what would happen next! I loved the small-town Alaska summer setting, I always find it neat to read stories that feature the midnight sun! I loved Lacy and Kurtis, and little Madeline was just so adorable! I loved Lacy’s faith journey and it was exactly the message that I needed at this moment in my life. The suspense in this book was great and kept me flipping pages! And I especially adored the ending, it totally made me melt and put the biggest smile on my face! Identity Theft is a quick read that I enjoyed from beginning to end! I am so glad I read Identity Theft and highly recommend it to fans of Christian suspense. I look forward to reading more books by this author in the future!
(4 Stars!)
I received an ebook copy of this book from the publisher which did not influence my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.
It draws you in and keeps you guessing until the very end. Loved the ending. Torn between two loves – but not a love triangle – IMO and in hiding. Who will Lacy/Jo choose? Where will she end up? I love Kurtis and his daughter and was rooting for them. A romantic suspense with a Christian message.
