Loved reading…
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The first book in a new and very promising series that makes you want more! When does the murder of a charismatic mega church pastor, swingers, a marriage proposal, some family issues, strange friends, a mysterious hunk of a new neighbor and a great female protagonist, Julienne, who is an event planner, in training, and very career minded. She envisions herself traveling all over the world working at high end hotels., so she is very serious about her job. And when the Pastor is found murdered in the dining room at an event she had put together, and she is seen by the body she becomes suspect number one. So now with the help of her cousin Felicia, her new neighbor, Mason, who she keeps weird vibes about and her condo neighbors she has to try to find a murderer to clear her name. I can’t wait to see what Julienne gets into next! A fun read and you will like the characters and how they all relate to Julienne. With a surprise ending, this first book is well written and flows so you will want to finish it in one sitting. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
A new author fo me, I really enjoyed this first on series by Avery Daniels. Julienne is a manager in training at a posh Colorado resort. But when a pastor is murdered at one of the events she is overseeing and the Detective decides she is the primary suspect, she decides she better do some investigating herself. Julienne and her friends and family are likable characters, even if some are a little kooky, but all seem willing to help her try to prove her innocence (even the new hunky neighbor across the street!). The story moves right along and definitely keeps your interest, especially as less than savory information about the Pastor keeps coming out! I did receive a free copy from BookSprout, and I write this review voluntarily.
This was an enjoyable read. I really liked the characters, even those you love to hate. I did figure out who the killer was pretty quickly, but it did not deter the reading enjoyment. I was still surprised at the reveal of the killer at the end. I normally read thrillers and paranormal thrillers, but do enjoy the cozy mysteries as well and recommend this for all ages. I also liked that it helps in teaching about power and abuse.
I received this book as an ARC, but am happy to give my honest opinion.
Iced is the very first book in the new Resort to Murder Mystery series.
Julienne is a manager in training for a five-star resort and is in the shock of her life. After being hit on by Pastor Tom, she discovers him dead and is prime suspect number 1.
With family who think they know what’s best for her, an unsupportive boyfriend (who is clueless about Julienne), and an old school rival turned reporter pointing the finger at her, Julienne works to find the real murderer.
To help her uncover the clues and investigate the crime are her fun-fueled elderly neighbors (Delores, Nathan, and Beverly) and a new ally Madison. Can they weed through all the suspects and a few red herrings to determine who killed Pastor Tom? Or will Julienne find herself involved more than she can handle?
Julienne is doing her dream job…a manager in training at a five-star resort. She has dreams of doing this job around the world someday. When she becomes the main suspect in the murder of Pastor Tom, her dreams start to fade away. She really needs the support of her family and friends, but… Can Julienne prove she isn’t the one that murdered him? A good start to an easy-to-read series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the first book in the Resort to Murder Mysteries series. Julienne is a manager-in-training at a 5 Star resort with visions of working in resorts all over the world. But first she must prove herself innocent of the murder of the high profile Pastor Tom.
I liked Julienne as soon as she kneed the Pastor for roughly groping her. This is a girl who can stand up for herself, which she has to do to her father and current boyfriend, who both think she should have a nothing job and raise babies (I thought it’s the mother asking for grandbabies!). She is determined to go her own way but first, since defending herself lands her in the prime suspect spotlight, she must now gather enough information/evidence to give the police other credible suspects.
The plot and characters are believable, and once I got into it, the book was hard to put down. I look forward to the rest of the books in the series.
I received a review copy of this book and I am providing my honest opinion without any compensation or expectations.
An ice cold murder, a break-up, a swinger club and a new exciting romance are the ingredients to this mystery in a new series set in a resort in Colorado.
A very promising and engaging story with lots of red herrings that kept me interested all the way to the last page. There is a good variety of supporting casts without being confusing.
I enjoyed the romance between Julienne and her new neighbour Mason even though he was just a tad bit too perfect.
I am looking forward to the next murder in the resort.
I requested this book from NetGalley and am thankful that Xpresso Book Tours and the author provided me with a copy.
“Iced: A Resort to Murder” earns 5/5 Ice Sculptures!
Julienne LaMere, event coordinator and manager-in-training at an upscale resort in Colorado, is frantically finalizing details with frequent last-minute changes and preparing for the Leadership Luncheon with many local community leaders. “This event must be executed with precision and perfection,” her boss expected. But her training never covered how to handle a sleazy local mega-church paster suggestively accosting her and then being found empaled by the swordfish ice sculpture in front of the seafood buffet. Her reputation, employment, and possibly her freedom is in jeopardy unless she can find the killer.
I am always excited about starting a series with the first book. It’s like being first in line for the seafood buffet…wink, wink! Avery Daniels’ “Iced” is a great beginning to what I hope is several books: Upscale resort? Event planning? Murder? The story was very entertaining with twists and turns that I couldn’t hazard a guess because another motive or clue would be revealed leading to a crescendo ending of “Oh, my!” The characters are well written with strengths and vulnerabilities that are engaging to follow. Julienne has personal, as well as professional, issues to deal with and her reactions show maturation and efforts to take the reins of her own life, although I feel that family will continue to be the ‘ache’ in her head. But, there are a couple of possibilities that she might think twice about career first, marriage second. The story was engaging, the characters entertaining, and the idea that there will be more…priceless!
