You’d think being abducted by aliens would be the worst thing that could happen to me. And you’d be wrong. Because now, the aliens are having ship trouble, and they’ve left their cargo of human women — including me — on an ice planet.
And the only native inhabitant I’ve met? He’s big, horned, blue, and really, really has a thing for me…
You must suspend logic to imagine the alien planet and alien, which are quite enjoyable. I couldn’t find anything compelling with the poorly developed and poorly spoken alien’s human love interest. If the author would give some care to that character the book would be much better. A character with almost all foul language always reads as a dumb obnoxious person to me. It is beyond my imagination that anyone would be remotely interested. The alien was well described and the author used great imagination for him. He was well enough described it was easy to visualize him. I laughed while walking along the trails listening to the audible version, so it was fun to listen to.
Ice Planet Barbarians is book one and my first read by Dixon. Vektal and Georgie’s story was definitely interesting and steamy. Abducted by green aliens then stranded on a planet with blue looking aliens is a story that will definitely keep my attention until the end.
I did it. I read this book, after witnessing all the hype. For the first bit, it’s slow and the writing isn’t of the highest quality. I wasn’t there for it. Georgie is kidnapped by aliens, along with other women, and kept as “commodities”but thanks to Georgie’s help, they manage to kill the aliens keeping them but now they’re stuck on this planet. So Georgie takes the reigns and sets out to search for help, food, something, and she meets Vektal.
Cue my obsession. Then… I was here for it.
It’s a quirky, fun read about fated alien mates. I was expecting more and was pleasantly surprised to find it such a sweet, romantic read. The sex was on point, but anything relationship-y definitely tipped more into the sweet romance side. I became addicted very fast and it was hard to put down.
Beneath the romance, a story is there, and I think it’s solid. With his help, they get back to the other women and save them all, bringing them home to his small tribe of people. I’m excited to read on and get to learn about each of the other guys.
I can’t decide if I dislike or like Georgie. In the end, she did her task and saved the women. I quite like Vektal. His thoughts are very sweet, his entire focus is on her, and he’s fairly realistic in terms of not forcing romance or anything. Despite the whole mate thing, and the urge to keep her and impregnate her, there’s never any force–it’s not a dark romance by any means.
I LOVED Transcendence by Shay Savage, and it’s been hard to find another book like it. THIS has Transcendence vibes and it makes me so happy. Maybe that’s why I found myself enjoying it SO much. I don’t know, all I do know is I have ARCs to be reading, but I’m finding myself moving on in this addictive series!
I LOVED it. It hooked me from the start. Georgie & Vektal are the cutest. There had a cute / fluffy relationship. I did find it strange that there was really no pushback from Georgie, like she just went along with him from jump but I’m going to just say that the khui is probably strong
With all of the hype about the Ice Planet Barbarian series by Ruby Dixon – I knew I had to re-read the series. u2060

I started reading the books in 2016 during a small winter break from work after I saw the book among the best sellers on the sci-fi romance list. I. WAS. HOOKED. The hype is no surprise, because after that first read, I binged as much of the series as I can and followed updates and other series by Ruby when they go live. If you have not read the series, definitely do it. I’m super-excited for you to meet Haeden and Josie (book 7).u2060

The amazing thing about these series is that they were my gateway to amazing world of science fiction romance. I can’t wait to share my other favorite authors in that genre.
I’m glad I read it because so many people have been talking about it, and I enjoyed the world-building and the heroine. I didn’t get too much of a feel (heh) for the hero in this first volume, so I may read a couple more.
That was unexpected! This series has been all kinds of hyped up lately… I had absolutely NO IDEA that I was going to fall in live with a blue alien! OMG! Vektal had me swooning from the very beginning! I am just blown away. The beginning did feel a bit slow and there was totally a if I was one to be triggered I would have gotten quite upset. But that lag was due to all the explanation that was needed…. but this did NOT stop me from reading this whole book in just ONE EVENING! It was that intriguing! Looks like I have a whole list of books to get through! This book had ALL of the stars! Checked all the boxes! I am ready for more of this world!

This was surprisingly a very enjoyable read.
My first sci-fi. This isn’t my go-to type of read but I’m glad I picked it up. This was the different read I was in need of.
I like it. What can I say… it was Funny. Hot. Swoony. Over protective alpha.
Georgie awakens in the cargo hold of an alien ship with several other women. They’ve all been kidnapped in the dead of night by orange headed aliens who plan to sell them on the intergalactic black market as slaves. The women are scared, tired, and confused, feelings that get worse when the ship crashes into an ice covered planet. Georgie is tasked with looking for help and seeing where exactly they are, but her journey doesn’t last too long.
Vektal is huge, strong, horned, blue, and the chief of his people. While out hunting, the last thing he expects to find is a strange, pink creature who speaks a strange language and has no idea how to keep herself alive. But the pull he feels towards her is full animal magnetism and he knows he’ll do anything to keep her alive and with him.
So the main themes in this book are obviously aliens, but also soulmates, and breeding. I enjoy a good instant soulmate troupe when reading fantasy and sci-fi, so that was easy for me to enjoy. The breeding? Well, as someone who literally just had a baby, the idea of getting pregnant right now has me wishing for intergalactic condoms for Georgie’s sake. But the themes paired well together, making it an easy read. If you’re into breeding, I’m going to say this entire series is for you!
I also enjoy a good “himbo” main character. Give me muscles, a chiseled jaw, and an obsession with their love interest, and I’m happy. Vektal gave me George of the Jungle vibes which I thought was fitting, given Georgie’s needs. They paired well together, making the soul mate connection more believable. Something endearing about these aliens is that they worship women, almost literally. Sure, you’re going to live in a cave or hut, with no running water, but your mate will cut off their left arm if you asked.
As I’ve said, there’s more than twenty books in this series, but I’m not sure if I’ll review each one. Although a trip to NotHoth/Icehome is a nice change of pace when it comes to romance. They’re fast reads that work with a formula that makes them predictable, but not in a bad way. I will say I wished for more depth when it comes to background and history of the clan, but since I’m only a dozen books in, who knows what’s next? While I’m not saying this is the new great American novel, it’s worth a read if you’re into breeding, worship, and rugged living.
If someone had told me a month ago, I would listen to sci-fi romance and enjoy it. I would have laughed really hard, but here I am.
The heroine Georgie was sassy and didn’t back down for the enormous blue alien, Vektal.
Who btw was huge in every way.
Vektal was swoony in an alien-like way. I liked how he wanted to care for his mate, he was possessive yet respected her.
He was the leader of his tribe, and they all were obsessed with finding their mate. What made some hilarious conversations.
I liked how the couple communicated before they made Georgie understand Vektal’s language. In my head, I saw it all play out, which was funny.
The sex scènes were fantastic. Especially the scene where Vektal goes down on Georgie was flamming hot. If he really is that good, I’m giving him my address.
In my opinion, there wasn’t lots of drama. In the beginning, there was more tension than at the end, but it was a different kind of drama.
Mason Lloyd and Hollie Jackson narrated the audiobook.
Georgie was Southern, so Hollie Jackson used a consistent Southern accent.
Mason Lloyd also used an accent, but it wasn’t consistent. This didn’t bother me, but I think it would have been better for the character if he used it throughout the whole story.
I did like the accent he gave Vektal, it suited the personality I imagined in my head.
They both have enjoyable voices and are suited together.
Mason Lloyd and Hollie Jackson did a great job bringing this story to life. I surely want to listen to more audiobooks narrated by them.
Ice Planet Barbarians was light and relaxing, exactly what I needed. I’m glad I know what everyone was talking about, but I don’t think I need more blue alien dick in my life.
If you love sci-fi romance, if you enjoy well build stories with great smut, hilarious conversations, some sweet moments that are also well narrated, I highly recommend this audiobook.
I didn’t expect to like this, turns out I loved it. If you had told me I would not only read but enjoy alien smut, I would have called you a liar. The story has incredible world building, as well as character development. The love story that unfolds between Vektal and Georgie is the sweetest. There is a level of cheese you need to overlook, but overall I loved it so much I already read and loved book two. I had to see where the story was going and what was to come for the rest of the characters, that’s how good this was and how invested I became.
Now I would like to clarify, I called it alien smut but it is not. It was a sweet love story. The way Vektal fawns over Georgie, the primal – primitive need to care and love her, is swoon worthy.
Georgie is sleeping when she is abducted by aliens and finds herself in a precarious situation which could lead to violence or something worse. Things are not getting better when the cargo hold she and the other kidnapped girls are in crashes. Georgie finds herself being helped by Vektal who believes Georgie is his mate. Georgie doesn’t agree but will Vektal show her a happily ever after if she trusts him?
This was entertaining but some of the language parts where they are trying to communicate were a bit distracting for me. Had some great chemistry though.
This book was the first book I read by this author and I enjoyed it a lot. I love how the women and the males had to learn to work together. The women went through every emotion a person could but they didn’t give up.
Choppy writing not a we’ll developed story
Great characters and story. Could not put it down!,
This is the first book in the Ice Planet Barbarians book series. It’s rather like Seven Brides for Seven Brothers meets The Empire Strikes Back. With big blue aliens… with horns… and tails. Almost all of whom are male. In contrast to our crashed alien spaceship full of Earth women. Who were kidnapped and then abandoned by little green men from an entirely different planet.
The first to meet are Georgie (who, as the least injured, is sent out by the other women to look for help) and Vektal (who ends up being the chief of his clan, although we don’t learn this until later). All very convenient and fortuitous. As is the fact that Vektal immediately falls in love with Georgie and decides that she is his mate… and proceeds to commence with some aspects of the mating… even she’s unconscious at the time… during the course of which she wakes up… and is totally okay with it. LOL! Things doing really cool down any from there either.
So if you don’t have a problem with insta-love or inter-species relationships or the rather absurd, this is actually a cute and clever book and series. The characters are all rather witty and fun, and quite distinctive. And, of course, after whatever trials and tribulations get in the way of their mating, everyone eventually finds their one true mate and lives happily-ever-after. Or at least as happy as you can be stranded on a frozen, stone-age, alien planet.
Wow. Why did I keep putting off reading this series? Oh my freaking word, this was a great read! Hot, blue aliens! And it was well written. I’m totally picking up book two right now. Seriously.
good except for the rape scene near the beginning

Very enjoyable read, couldn’t put it down. The flow is fast & smooth, the h/H are very likable & I could empathize with both of them. The world building is great. The humor & silliness was fantastic & helped counter the seriousness of all the gals’ situations. I appreciate that there isn’t a cliff hanger per say for the couple (they get their HEA), but it definitely leads you to want to continue with the series to see what happens to the other ladies.
