I would definitely read another book by this author. I added him to my book list.
I will buy & read the second book in this series.
This book was very well written and the characters were clever in their humor. Great story!
A good crime mystery. Characters were interesting and well defined.
Very interesting. Clever dialogue and plot. I am interested in reading more by this author.
Kept me guessing until near the end. I thought it was a very good “who-done-it”.
It was very good
I had never read this author ( this may have been his first book) but I was totally surprised how good he was. Many times what I call “Amazon Authors” have stories that are just clones of other AAs, the editing is terrible or non existent and the stories are worth only the 99 cents you pay for them. This story was clever, had characters that are very likeable, flowed along easily, and the mystery was , well a mystery. I am looking forward to another story and I hope it is a continuation of the same characters. Great job!
This debut book is a winner, and that “ain’t no lie”. Welcome to a small town on a lake, local politics, gossip and even murder.
Harry Cull is one of a kind, ex-cop, polygraph expert with a nice business using his machine and skills reading people….BUT. When you meet him he is always scanning FBI records on missing children, and his wife left him.
A trooper, Cirba, asks him to look into the death of Bill….three bullet holes rule out suicide or accidental death. Harry decides he likes the town, loves his rental place right on the lake and meets MK. MK lives next door, is a nurse, knows the gossip and the people. MK is also smart and pretty.
It took me a while to slow down and enjoy the pace of the book, lots of food, joking, people and lifestyle. You learn about Bill, Jimmy and Frank, the brothers, are now down to just Frank. The flavor/atmosphere is terrific……Great regional read! Some states say soda not pop or say you betcha, well, Ice Lake says “ain’t no lie”.
You learn about motives including fracking, real estate, and maybe a reference to the mob. And the info on fracking is very interesting as is the way a young teen handles protests quoting Walden and others.
Cirba and Harry have a nice, real relationship. Harry is someone I’d love to meet..sincere, kind, pays attention, slow to anger and manages to solve several murders.
In most books, the hero is thrilled to move on and leave the town and its people behind..not Harry. And the reason Harry reads up on missing kids is explained …and stays with you…wishing Harry continues solving crimes!!
I would love to live here. Everyone knows everyone. Such a safe place to live–oooopps, maybe not! You’ll never-ever guess who the culprit is. I hope Harry will appear again!
Main character was a little too stodgy for my taste
Loved the place: the cabins, the lake the gas station/country store and the characters inhabiting the place(s)! The first chapter transports you to this wquirky world and, like Harry, you won’t want to leave it, There is attraction, , romance, friendship, and of course, a mystery. All are very satisfying. Like a great vacation spot, it’ s so great you can’t wait to visit again!
Enjoyed this book and would highly recommend
Kept my interest
Very good read.
This was a really good book. I read it over the weekend and I’m looking forward to the next book in this series. I was born in Pa. so a lot was familiar to me. The only thing that would have made it better would be audiobook read by someone with a Pennsylvanian accent!
