The Nighthawks are hockey’s new expansion team. They’re ice hot. And they’re all about the chase. Christian: They call me a hockey god because I’m a beast on the ice . . . and off. Men want to be me and women just want me. But now that the New York Nighthawks expect me to lead their team to victory, it’s all work and no play. My eyes are on the prize. Until I meet Serena Ellis, a sexy, … Serena Ellis, a sexy, curvalicious blonde who doesn’t know me from jack. And just like that, I’m hooked.
Serena: I don’t do one-night stands—especially with celebrity jocks who date models. Lots of models. But the god of hockey is a temptation that’s hard for mere mortals to resist. And after the best kiss of my life, I’m ready to throw my one-night stand rule out the window. Except Christian Chase won’t let me. He doesn’t want a one-night stand. He wants it all.

Ice Hot is the first book in the New York Nighthawks series by Tracy Goodwin. And what a story to start with. Tons of chemistry jumping off this pages, the character’s connection at its best. Drama with a capital D. With a side of humor that will have you laughing out loud.
Christian is the new captain of the Nighthawks. But things are not so easy for the new captain. When his focus should be all about his new team/new season starting, Serena catches his eye and things can get a little off-kilter.
Serena who has enough drama going on in her life doesn’t’ do one night stands, but a chance kiss that ends up being “the kiss” has her a little weak in the knees. And when Christian doesn’t let up in his pursuit, then things can get a little hot under the collar.
I enjoyed reading this story, it fun, flirty, steamy and with a side of drama to bring it around.
This is the first book I’ve read by Tracy Goodwin. I had to give this one a read because hockey romance is one of my jams right now. I gobble them right up. Serena and Christian’s first meeting is quite memorable. It set a fun, but serious note to the book. There were many times I found myself laughing while reading this, but this book also has a ton of heart. I’m not gonna lie when the couple had their struggle it was difficult to read. To see them struggle and go through what they had to was a little heartbreaking. Tracy did a great job on creating some very unlikable characters. One in particular I disliked the most and I wanted to knock some common decency in him. Serena is an inspiring character and one many women can relate to. I’m looking forward to more of Tracy’s hockey hunks!
Serena Ellis and Christian Chase are two halves of a whole. Serena born into wealth but can never measure up. Christian grew up before his time. By accident they meet and can’t get each other out of their minds. A chance encounter, brings them back into each other’s orbit. Serena is strong, funny and loyal to her friends and family. The one thing she insists on is the truth. Christian is the team captain of the Nighthawks. He has lived and breathed hockey for most of his life. He is loyal and a protector. I enjoy the back and forth between. It takes a turn but in the end, they are better together than apart.
This is the first book I have read by this author and it is an awesome read. The story had me reeled in from page one. I am glad I read this on a weekend because I was up all night to see how it would end. The author’s characters are well developed. Her plot flows smoothly and her storyline was well written. There is romance, heartbreak, family drama, sacrifice a villian and several emotional elements to the story that made for a fantastic plot. Serena Ellis is a wealthy Socialite from a Real Estate developer’s family and Christian Chase is Captain of the Nighthawke’s Hockey team. He has worked his way up from nothing to a star player earning million dollar contracts. They are a sexy hot mismatched pair that melt the ice together and have more in common in their emotional personal lives then they every thought possible. It is the kind of story which does not bore and makes you read every word without skipping pages. Loved Puck and Serena grandmother! I don’t like to give specific spoilers so I’ll say the storyline makes you route for Serena and Chris to achieve their HEA. I highly recommend.
I received an advanced readers copy from the author through NetGalley for my honest opinion. It was a pleasure to read and review this book.
This book is all about a new expansion hockey team in New York. (Think like the Vegas Golden Knights.) Serena is a plus-size clothing designer who happens to literally bump into a very hot guy at a gas station. A guy who spills her blue slushy all over her. Disaster. That hot guy is Christian, the team captain of the NY Nighthawks hockey team. Serena describes Christian as “Natural. Strong. Fierce. A hurricane.” Chris describes Serena as “…beautiful, smart, and gets me like no one else… I want to be the only guy for her.” There are some very hot and sensual sexy times between the two. I loved the middle part of this book for that. Hard times surface as social media goes after Serena for being curvy and not the right woman for Christian. And Christian has a member of his team that’s causing trouble for him on the ice, and off.
I enjoyed this book. I feel like it could’ve been novella length and still been a great book. It was a little wordy and repetitive in some spots. The ending was a little cheesy/formulaic, but cute. I really liked the characters and the steamy scenes with Christian and Serena, so I’m giving Ice Hot 4 stars.

I enjoyed this romance between Chris and Serena. Serena’s sass and her mission showing the world that “real is beautiful” was what made me love her. Christian is broken and all about hockey, but meeting Serena is fate and just what he needs.
The emotional roller coaster was great but I do think some of the things were drawn out a bit and wordy.
I would recommend this book.
I really enjoyed this book. This hockey player/curvy girl romance offered a enjoyable blend of drama, humor, heat and emotions. I loved Christian and Serena. I thought that their chemistry was steamy and the emotional connection between them sweet. I thought they made a great couple and I thought it was amazing that they loved each other simply because of who the were on the inside. This read left me happy, satisfied and eager to further explore more characters in the New York Nighthawks world.
I’m a first time reader of this author and I have to say, this won’t be the last book of her’s that I’ll be reading. Serena and Christian are so easy to fall in love with. Christian is a no kiss and tell player, but isn’t full of himself. He’s an alpha, but in a very grounded and subtle way, and just an all around nice guy. Serena is a strong, sassy, savvy woman who knows herself well, is intelligent, isn’t afraid to voice her opinion, and knows when and when not to do it. She loves who she loves and protects them fiercely.
They meet by accident, and I mean that literally, but then part ways without getting each others information. After fate steps in and allows them to meet again, under better circumstance, they can take the time to get to each other and get to the know themselves better in the process. Their chemistry is undeniable. They each have their own baggage they bring to the table, but then again, who doesn’t. It’s a steamy read, that moves at a good pace, and makes you root for them all the way.
If you like your steamy romance with a special bond between the two main characters that evokes so much emotion you feel it down to your toes, Chris and Serena’s story is for you. Neither was looking for love, and both thought they were too busy, but when fate puts them together, their lives are irrevocably changed. He’s the captain of the new professional hockey expansion team, and she’s busy trying to launch her clothing design business. But from the first time they meet, there’s an undeniable connection between them that won’t be ignored.
More and more, we’re seeing authors use their work to highlight various social issues. That can be a double-edged sword, because if taken too far it can alienate the reader. Goodwin strikes a nice balance, showing the heart and emotion behind the issue while giving her heroine a spine of steel and strong voice while still wrestling with self-doubt. In doing so Serena comes across as authentic and endearing, engaging the reader and easily winning her over. As strong and accomplished as Chris is, his old insecurities cropping up make him seem more human and, with the exception of an instance of self-sabotage, relatable and loveable.
Most of the book takes place prior to the hockey season, so the bulk of the sports aspect is what occurs behind the scene and in preparation of the season, which is a fresh take on a hockey romance. There is still plenty of dealing with the fame and public opinion of dating a hockey player, as well as disagreeable parents on both sides, all of which provide for the conflict in the book. I liked both Chris and Serena and had no trouble connecting with them, which easily had me invested in the outcome of their story. The secondary characters were vivid and colorful, and the guys on the team, especially, left me wanting more of the New York Nighthawks. I’m ready to buy a team jersey, and I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series!
*I reviewed this book freely and voluntarily, having made no commitment to provide a review and receiving no compensation of any kind from any source for this review.
I noticed lately that I have had a lot of hockey-themed romances in my TBR pile. Which is funny because I haven’t followed hockey in years. All these hockey themed romances are telling me something. They are telling me that I need to turn on the games again.
When I read the blurb for Ice Hot, I was kind of “meh” about it. No lying. I got burned out on alpha males. I also got burned out on women who think that they can handle the alphas but end up becoming submissive.
I surprised when Christian and Serena blew those misconceptions out of the water. While the book did start off with a typical alpha male situation, it turned into anything but. Christian was still very much an alpha male on the ice. But off the ice, when he was alone with Serena, he showed a different side. A side that I wasn’t expecting to see in a book like this. I loved it!!
I thought Serena was awesome!! The whole situation with the Slurpee had me cracking up in bed. But what I liked the most about her was that she was one of the most genuinely written characters I have read to date. I read a lot, so that says something. By the end of the book, she morphed into almost hero status in my eyes.
The author chose to detail cyberbullying in this review. As well as slut/fat shaming. Serena was at the end of that. She had been at the end of the fat shaming her entire life. Her parents did nothing about it. In fact, her father hired the guy who humiliated her. I thought she was strong and my admiration grew as the book went on.
I was heartbroken when Serena and Christian broke up. Now, I wouldn’t normally be mentioning that but it was huge in the book. I am not going to say why they broke up but I will say that I understood why Christian did it. He wanted to protect Serena and in his mind, this was how he could do it.
The only thing that I found fault with was how the team and management handled Mighty. I know that a hockey team needs to be a cohesive unit. Which is why I didn’t understand why nothing was done about Mighty until the end of the book. He caused so much harm, it wasn’t even funny. I was very surprised that Christian held off as long as he did.
The sex scenes were as emotional and intimate as the book was. The author kept up the sexual tension throughout the book. It didn’t go away at all. Actually, it intensified the deeper Christian fell for Serena. It was amazing to read.
You will need tissues for the end of the book. Thankfully, I had a bunch next to me (I am battling a cold). I started bawling the minute Serena met up with her mother and didn’t start until the end of the book. I loved the epilogue and thought the Slurpee was great!!!
I have never read Tracy Goodwin’s books before but this story line caught my eye. Boy am I glad I read this author…..I loved this book!
Christian Chase, known as Cyclone on the hockey ice is the captain of the newly formed team, the New York Nighthawks. Chris doesn’t do relationships. He only has time for one thing….hockey. Sure he has a little fun now and then, but hockey is first priority.
Serena Ellis may be a little curvy for some people’s liking but she likes her curves. As a clothing designer she designs clothes that any size woman could wear.
When a fun chance encounter brings these two together, you just know it is going to be a fun ride. When their second chance encounter ends up in a sexy, toe curling kiss now you know things are going to get down right hot! The more time Chris and Serena spend together, the stronger their feelings become. For the first time in Chris’ life, something other than hockey has become important. For the first time in Serena’s life she is starting to believe that this gorgeous hockey player really likes her, and not her parents money.
Quickly Chris realizes that sometime you have to let go something that you love in order to truly protect things in his life. Thankfully he also realizes that maybe life has other plans for him and maybe he does deserve true happiness and darn it, he is going to get his happy ending!
I just adored Serena and Chris. Both of them have skeletons in their closet that cause them to behave certain ways and it takes a huge leap of faith for both of them to truly trust the other. I just adored their banter! Add in their friends and family and this made for one fun, sexy and enjoyable story!
Christian who is the new captain of the team has a lot of pressure on him. He’s very organized and likes everything in it’s place. One thing that doesn’t fall into that is a relationship he doesn’t do those. The first time that he meets Serena had me laughing out loud. Than the second time had me laughing too.
Serena grew up with the proverbial silver spoon in her mouth but didn’t have the one thing that she wanted. I absolutely loved her grandma!!! She cracked me up.
Their backgrounds couldn’t be more different but what’s on the inside isn’t much different at all. Will outside forces tear these two apart before they get to indulge in finding what they have? Will there pasts make it to where they are too scared to put it all on the line?
Christian has a new city and new team in hockey career, moving to the newly formed Nighthawks with the responsibility of captain is a big move, meeting a sassy sexy woman who has no clue who you are-hot! With a line like: “Oh, God. It’s dripping. It looks like I’m peeing a Smurf in public.” You know it’s a special kind of book! From the moment Serena and Christian met the chemistry is off the charts! Sexy, sassy and funny this is a great read, even if Chris can be an idiot, even if it is with the best thoughts. Love a HEA!
Tracy Goodwin melts the ice with ICE HOT, the first book in the New York Nighthawks series. NHL star, Christian Chase, is focused on leading his new team and does not plan on being distracted. However, after literally bumping into, Serena Ellis, he is intrigued and interested in pursuing her. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult audiences.
I liked Christian’s character. He is the captain of the new expansion team, the New York Nighthawks. He has a lot of dimensions. He’s a dog lover, so that’s a plus. I appreciated Christian’s friendship with Nick. He came from nothing and wants to prove himself. Serena is an admirable heroine. She comes from a wealthy family. I like that she is a clothing designer for real women. She feels that she, and her brother are a disappointment to her parents. She never felt like she fit in her social circle. I love the relationship she has with her brother and grandmother.
Christian and Serena have great chemistry. I like how Christian and Serena met. Their banter was entertaining. I appreciate that they like each other for who they actually are and not their net worth or celebrity status. They come from different backgrounds, but they fit together. They both have scars that the other helps heal. They trust and respect each other.
I enjoyed the plot. The characters faced many interesting confrontations and grew both individually and as a couple. I like the expansion team aspect of the story; the added obstacle of bringing together a new team presented engaging challenges.
This is the first book that I have read by Tracy Goodwin. I enjoyed her writing style and plan to continue following the books in this series. I recommend ICE HOT for lovers of sports romances. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Great story line, about an expansion hockey team centered around their captain Christian. He’s got a reputation that has been built up through the press, but it’s far from the truth. When he bumps into Serena, their meeting is less than sweet! When he bumps into her again, he realizes just how beautiful she is. Serena has issues, her parents were less then loving toward her and her brother. Chris always carries issues from his childhood, can these two get passed there past and forge a stable loving relationship? Read along and find out! 4 stars for this one, if you love hockey and love grab this one asap!!
Ice Hot is the first book I have read by this author and I really liked it. I loved Christian and Serena. Chris was swoony and sexy. I loved Serena’s sass. Chris and Serena were perfect together. I loved their chemistry and connection!
Great start to a new hockey series. In the story we get a glimpse at several NY Nighthawk players and I see some great stories coming our way. Christian Chase is the team captain and should be focused solely on the team and upcoming season but the incredibly sexy Serena Ellis has him slightly distracted.
I haven’t read anything from the author before and after reading this book I must say I am a brand new fan. I very much enjoyed her storytelling style, characters, and story pace. I highly recommend this one to everyone.
Ice Hot by Tracy Goodwin is book One in the New York Nighthawks Series. This is the story of Serena and Chris. Chris is the Captain for the Nighthawks and is used to women liking what they see. Serena is working on her own business isn’t the thin model type but it doesn’t stop her. They two have instant connection and look to the other for more, but some people seem to want to pull them away.
Enjoyed their story.
Great start to a new series. Well-written with strongly developed characters. Christian and Serena’s story had me hooked from their first meet to the last page. Looking forward to reading more about the New York Nighthawks, especially Nick.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC received via NetGalley.
