When millionaire Regis Banks drops dead at his own party, everyone assumes it was from natural causes – after all, the man was celebrating his one-hundredth birthday…. Everyone except Lexy Baker’s amateur sleuth grandmother, Nans, and her three friends, that is. When it turns out that Regis’ death might have been caused by more than just old age, Nans refuses to let the trail grow cold – … trail grow cold – especially after a local reporter trying to get a scoop threatens to write an article blaming the death on Lexy.
It doesn’t take long before Nans and Lexy are up to their eyeballs in suspects. And when those suspects start dropping like flies, Lexy and Nans have to step up their game before the killer claims their next victim.

I enjoyed the story. Even though I haven’t read the series, it worked as a standalone without too many references to things I haven’t read but enough breadcrumbs that I would read more.
This author is fun and interesting to read for something light without the book being too “cutesy”
Lexy Baker and the Ladies Detective Club are at it again. The dead man is multi-millionaire Regis, who suffered anaphylactic shock after eating contaminated ice cream at his 100th birthday bash. One thing that makes this series amusing is the clues the ladies identify that to prove this or that character to be the murderer – until he’s not. The only misstep, to my mind, is that Lexy is rarely working in her bakery (or ordering supplies or doing inventory or billing or creating catering plans) and yet her business thrives – even though she seems to give away far more pastries than she sells.
Her books are always a quick read treat!
Easy read, entertaining with a mystery storyline.
Great light comical mystery.
Why murder a 100 year old? This book will capture you and keep you guessing until the very end. Almost read in one sitting- kept my attention.
Dobbs’ books move along well with interesting characters. The plot was believable and interesting.
This is an entertaining light cozy mystery. Set in a small town, you get to know the characters and their idiosyncrasies. The plot revolves around a group of older ladies who love to solve mysteries. I recommend this book for your Summer reading.
This is such a fun series and Dobbs does it again. Lexi, Nana and the rest of the group are back at doing their favourite things, solving crimes and eating Lexi’s fabulous desserts.
This is a great cozy mystery filled with humour, surprises, twists and turns that leave guessing to the end. The characters are quirky, fun, interesting and seem to literally pop off the page. It is one of my favourite series and this book makes a great addition. Why not read them all.
