NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERA spur-of-the-moment ski trip becomes a bone-chilling nightmare when a wrong turn leaves Boston medical examiner Maura Isles marooned—far from home and help—in the snowbound Wyoming mountains. Seeking shelter from the cold, she and her traveling companions stumble upon Kingdom Come—a remote village of identical houses that seems to have become a ghost town overnight. But … ghost town overnight. But the abandoned hamlet has dark secrets to tell, and Maura’s party may not be as alone as they think. Days later, word reaches homicide cop Jane Rizzoli that Maura’s charred remains have been found at the scene of a car crash. But the shocking news leaves Jane with too many questions, and only one way to get answers. Determined to dig up the truth, she heads for the frozen desolation of Kingdom Come, where gruesome discoveries lie buried, and a ruthless enemy watches and waits.

Great read
A good book to read during a snowstorm? This Rizzoli and Isles sequel. It’s a little different, partly because it moves away from the Boston locale, and also because it focuses primarily on Maura Isles, and Jane Rizzoli is only a small player in the second half of the book. In this winter blizzard novel, Maura attends a medical conference in Wyoming, and joins a group of new friends for a spur-of-the-moment ski trip in the mountains. But when their SUV breaks down on a snow choked and barricaded road, and they are fired upon by what they thought was arriving rescuers, the group scatters toward a group of distant houses to seek help. Unfortunately the houses are all abandoned; old meals half-eaten on the table, cars in the garage, but not a person in sight although there are footprints in the fresh snow. Days later, in Boston, Jane gets the horrible news that Maura’s burned body was found in a mountain ravine. Determined to find out what happened to her friend, Jane heads into the mountain snow where she uncovers the horrible truth about the village, and faces down a powerful enemy to discover Maura’s true fate. It was a good and interesting read, although to be honest I didn’t enjoy it as much as the more typical Boston murder mysteries in the series.
Ice Cold was a wonderful read. It opens with a scene sixteen years prior in a religious cult where the leader is obsessed with a young woman. Return to the present day and Maura Isles is attending a conference out in Wyoming. She meets up with a friend, Doug Comley also attending and together they head out for a ski trip. Their car breaks down and things begin to get crazy from that point forward. Taking refuge in an abandoned cabin they stumble on a scene with far more questions than answers. A great read.
