The last person private investigator Mika Chalmers expects to walk in her office is ex-boyfriend and NHL player, Eric Foresburg. He looks just like he did three years ago, tall, blond, and every inch a Viking.
This isn’t a social call.
Eric has gotten himself into some hot water. A woman is going to publicly accuse Eric of rape and he needs Mika to prove his innocence. With pressure from her … pressure from her father – who happens to be the head coach of Eric’s NHL team – and smarmy defense attorney, Ryan King, Mika has her work cut out for her. When feelings for Eric – feelings she buried a long time ago – start to resurface, her job of finding the truth no matter what gets increasingly difficult to do.
Despite the fact that Mika has connections with the police department – including the arrogant Detective Alex Beech – the answers aren’t black and white. Evidence reveals that Eric and the victim were together, but it turns into a heated he-said, she-said. It doesn’t help that Eric has been keeping things from Mika, things he should have disclosed before she agreed to take his case.
With the help of Beech, Mika must determine whether or not Eric is innocent before the court of public opinion finds him guilty and his entire life is ruined.
With the heated chemistry of Castle and the unpredictable twists and turns of Bones, hockey fans are devouring this new romantic mystery series by a USA Today Best Selling Author.

“Ice Breakers“ marks the start in the “Mika Chalmers Hockey Mystery” by Heather C. Myers, an enjoyable and interesting lecture that blends character development and mystery in a way that reminds of any good mature aimed mystery movie series. Mika Chalmers (FMC) is a PI and daughter of the coach of the NHL Irving Buccaneers, a fact that plays a primordial role in all mysteries.
Mika relationship with her ex ended three years ago, but now he is back, in all his blond Viking glory, sadly this is whether rebound not social call. Eric Foresburg needs Mika’s help to clean his name, from a rape accusation. Mika is torn between having to deal with Eric (and her old feelings coming back) and wanting to find the truth, and with her own father, who happens to be Eric NHL Team coach pressuring her, she has not other choice but take the case. The truth however is difficult to find, even with her contacts in the police department (including ‘his royal arrogance pain in the behind’ Alex Beech and actual BF of sorts) cannot unearth solid facts, and the issue rapidly develops into a ‘he says/she says>’; Eric hiding details from her doesn’t really help the case either. Eric, Mika, and Beech get entangled into a web of lies and suppositions, and if Mika doesn’t find the truth asap the court of public opinion will condemn Eric, nevertheless.
This a very good start into the series, fast-paced, interesting with unexpected turns and good plot twists that keep the reader guessing throughout the pages until the cliffhanger end, that let hope for much more to come. Strictly speaking the book would have profited of a better editorial work, but the story is enjoyable nevertheless, and as the editorial work is much more improved in the following books, the fact should not bother anyone.
The tension between Mika and her ‘men’ is palpable and credible, the resolution very satisfying. The struggle in conciliating her resurfacing feelings with the accusations, her wish to clean Eric’s reputation and revealing the truth at all cost, makes Mika’s character real, credible, and relatable. The – not really – love triangle between Eric, Mika and Alex is very believable and a source of enjoyment through the story. A clear recommendation to any mystery fans, specially for those with an ice hockey fav.
I loved Ice Breakers! The author is new to me & I am so excited to find her books. This read was entertaining & also kept me guessing (what I want in a mystery) I loved Mika- strong female but with a softer side as well.

This is a Mika Calmers Hockey Mystery series book. Mika Calmers is a private investigator and her father is the head coach of the local NHL team. Nothing like a mystery to.solve, a little romance with a twist of hockey to keep a story interesting. Mika is approached to look into her ex boyfriend, Eric. A woman is going to publicly accuse Eric of rape. This story has alot of characters and a few twists which switches things up as the story moves forward. I look forward to reading more of this series as I have read and enjoyed other series previously. Enjoy!

Mika and Eric are ex’s. She’s a PI and Eric is a pro-Hockey player. After Eric spends one night with a woman she is now accusing him of rape and he now needs Mika’s help to prove his innocence. The writing is good, the characters are believable and the twist and turns and that cliffhanger make this is a good start to this new series and I look forward to reading the next book.
Heather C. Myers has a game-winner with Ice Breakers (Mika Chalmers Hockey Mystery #1). In this story, private investigator Mika Chalmers is hired by her ex-boyfriend and NHL player, Eric Foresburg, to help prove he did not commit a crime. This contemporary sports mystery takes place in Irvine, California.
Ice Breakers is an original and refreshing read. I like Mika’s character. She is smart and stands up for herself. I like that she doesn’t automatically assume Eric is innocent. She feels her job is to discover the truth. Not just, provide information to her client. Mica’s relationship with Detective Alexander Beech is fascinating. I like how the two bicker.
Ice Breakers is an entertaining read. It has interesting twists. I like the hockey mystery concept. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series Kept on Ice. I recommend this story to people who enjoy sports mysteries. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Mika Chalmers is a private investigator and the daughter of a head coach of a NHL team, the same team her ex, Eric Foresburg, plays for. Mika is surprised when Eric walks into her office asking for help. A woman he was intimate with is going to come forward saying he raped her, but Eric swears it was consensual and asks Mika to prove his innocence. Mika agrees to help find the truth whether it helps Eric or not. Can Mika with the help of Detective Alex Beech prove Eric’s innocence before his life is destroyed by the court of public opinion? What secrets are Eric keeping from Mika? Will old feelings resurface between Eric and Mika? Will Mika become torn between her feelings for Eric and Alex? Will Mika be able to find out what is true or false when she realizes she is not being told everything? I believe that Ice Breakers by Heather C Myers is a great start to The Mika Chalmers Hockey Mystery Series. Mika is a strong, intelligent woman with great take no prisoners attitude. I would recommend getting Ice Breakers by Heather C Myers.
Mika is a private investigator, and daughter of the hockey team owner. Her ex-boyfriend is accused of rape, and asks for her help. She agrees to try to find the truth, whether it help him or not. I’ve read so many of this author’s hockey romances, and I love the new direction with this book – and it’s a terrific series opener. Detective Beech is a nice possible love interest, but he’s also a good detective, in part because of Mika’s help. I’m still on the fence about Eric – without giving up too much about the story, it doesn’t appear that he’s guilty, and I think that he misses Mika, but he’s also a bit of a player, and I hope she doesn’t fall for someone like that. Mika – absolutely love her! She’s strong and smart, good at her job, not afraid to go toe-to-toe with men who are bigger/stronger/older/more powerful. I admire her tenacity in following up the seemingly useless leads, leads that no one else thinks about, leads than end up solving the mystery. I can’t wait for the next book!

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Mika and Eric. She’s a private investigator who works with the Irvine police and detective Beech and her dad’s the coach of the hockey team. So image her surprise when her ex calls and asks for her to help him. He’s being accused of a crime he didn’t commit and needs her help. Her goal is to find the truth. When a hostage situation leaves her shaken and needs Beech to help, her feelings are thrown for a loop.

I enjoyed Mika and her trying to make it in a world where you mostly see men as private investigators. There is some romance but most of the story is about trying to get to the bottom of the mystery and why her ex is being accused. The dynamics are interesting too.

Trust is on ice as thin as a blade’s edge.
Mika faces a very public accusation of rape and her ex asking her help in unraveling it. Along the way, she realizes how drawn she is to a certain detective
Many players and much deception and betrayal are involved.
With the truth, or lie, of the rape event save her ex, or get her killed in the process.
Is she really willing to explore feelings with her ex as anything other than a part of her past?
Is her coach father involved in her connection with her ex? Is he trying to protect her, or his key player?
Much ado on ice and off – and more truths and lies are yet to be revealed.
Waiting on edge for the second book!
I absolutely loved this book and was honored to have been able to read and review. It was such a phenomenal read and had amazing characters as well as an amazing story line. I just could not get enough of it and once I started reading it I could not put it down. I recommend that you read it.

I thought this was a fun romantic suspense with a twist of hockey. I can’t say I was particularly surprised by the identity of the villain, but that could simply be because I opened this book suspecting everyone. Even though the culprit wasn’t a shock to me, I was very interested in seeing what it would take for Mika to uncover the truth. There is a bit of a Stephanie Plum vibe to her. That’s both good and bad. There are some fun humorous moments ala the Keystone Cops that remind me of the best of the earliest Plum books, but we also watch Mika stumble into success more through good luck than good management. Hopefully Mika has better luck choosing – and sticking with – a leading man than Stephanie does. ‘Cause right now, Mika’s coming across as a bit of a ditz and kind of clueless about her romantic life. There were some continuity issues in the text that threw me off. But, since what I read was an advanced copy, hopefully those issues were corrected before publication. I’m curious about Mika and I want to know more.

Book one in The Mika Chalmers Hockey Mystery Series a well written story that kept me turning pages. Private investigator Mika Chalmers has an ex-boyfriend come to her for help proving he did not do what is being said. NHL player, Eric Foresburg has gotten himself in trouble and does not know what happened. A great story. I want to read the next book. I liked this story about Mika and her problems feeling respected as a PI(Private investigator) in a male dominated world, but also her problems with the men in her life.
Mika’s ex boyfriend Eric suddenly calls her after three years to hire her. He is being accused of rape and he wants her to help him prove his innocence. He is a professional hockey player and her father is the coach of the team. He has a great reputation in the community and he is a great guy but suddenly Mika starts to doubt if she actually know him anymore. Could he have changed so much during the three years they haven’t seen each other? On top of that she also has problems with the police detective who gets put on the case. They usually work great together even though they often fight and nag at each other.
Detective Beech is being pressured from all sides to arrest Eric and find evidence against him but he also feels he has to protect Mika and warn her away from the case because he doesn’t want her to get hurt. But does Mika listen or is she to far into the case to stop now?
I think Mika really good at her job and maybe a little to good at it;)! Sometimes she throughs herself into dangerous situations without thinking. She seems a little ditzy when it comes to both Eric and Beech and the English cop she is dating. She doesn’t see the signs they send her and that really annoyed me. So I have really mixed feelings about her.
The book is very repetitive and I unfortunately solved the case very quickly. But the story was sweet and I definitely know who I want her to end up with in this series;)!
I can recommend this book if you are in the mood for a mystery with a smart but a little ditzy heroine and all of the good-looking men in her life!
