“What made this ebook such pleasurable reading was not the murder or even the Police procedure, but the rather wonderful cast of characters that the author, Emma Jameson, has created to populate her world. In the space of about 184 pages, Emma has managed to give us a whole collection of individuals, each very nicely rounded out and real. Even very minor players – such as the tall PC who finds … the pistol seems to be alive and obviously has a life outside the book.” — Tony Cole, eBookanoid.com
Anthony Hetheridge, ninth Baron of Wellegrave, Chief Superintendent for New Scotland Yard, never married, no children, no pets, no hobbies, and not even an interesting vice, will turn sixty in three weeks. With the exception of his chosen career, too sordid for his blue-blooded family to condone, his life has been safe and predictable. But then he meets Detective Sergeant Kate Wakefield – beautiful, willful, and nearly half his age. When Hetheridge saves the outspoken, impetuous young detective from getting the sack, siding with her against Scotland Yard’s powerful male hierarchy, his cold, elegantly balanced world spins out of control. Summoned to London’s fashionable Belgravia to investigate the brutal murder of a financier, Hetheridge must catch the killer while coping with his growing attraction to Kate, the reappearance of an old flame, and the secret that emerges from his own past.

Wonderful characters who truly seemed like human beings. The plot was well-developed. Though part of the plot seemed predictable (especially given the subtitle of the book), they twists made it interesting. Looking forward to book 2.
Love this series.
Slow developing.
Really like this series.
I really enjoyed this book
This is a great series.
I am absolutely hooked on this series after reading Ice Blue. Two Scotland Yard officers of different rank and background meet and fall for each other. Plus their team has to solve a murder.
Good read
Enjoyed book
Well written and descriptive.
Main characters form opposite sides of British society working together at the New Scotland Yard, unravel a twisted murder case. You are given a glimpse into the egos of England’s aristocracy and the layers of subterfuge employed by some to attain their goals. Good read.
I have read all in the series
Loved the characters and enjoyed the twists.
Love these characters.
Great characters that are likeable and relatable with a side of snarkiness at times to lighten the mood. The core characters are all fully realized and how they relate to one another and care for one another is a real treat. It has a well thought out plot and good pace. I have just gotten the second book since I found the first so addicting.
A great read!
Easy-to-like characters! Enjoy the cross-class interaction.
Liked it so much bought the other three books in the series and read them all the same week
I Enjoyed the writing style. The characters are well fleshed out…good backstories which explain actions. Good plot. I have read all the books in the series and enjoyed them all.
Great British mystery with wonderful characters, good plot with sidelines of “old boy network” and old guard meets modern times. A very good read.
