I so thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a great addition to the series. This series is about our wounded warriors. They come to Hathaway House to heal the mind, body and spirit. Not only does Hathaway House help veterans, but animals as well. Here is vet tech, Robin Carruthers, she has only been at Hathaway for a short period of time. She has seen miracles happen with both the patients and the animals. She spots a new veteran when he arrives. Unfortunately Iain MacLeod didn’t take an ambulance but had a friend drive him in a truck. Iain is in agony. He questions his decisions to come to Hathaway as coming by truck set his recovery back weeks.
This story is such a heartwarming, clean story of two people coming together and finding healing. I enjoyed that this story was written in a dual POV format. Robin feels like she isn’t good enough for Iain and seeing how she deals with her feelings really is a thought-provoking moment.
Even though this is a part of a series, this can be a stand-alone. This is a clean, sweet romance that I highly recommend to anyone.
An awesome Hathaway House read with characters who could be your friends and a story that immediately pulled me in and had me totally immersed in all that was happening from the first page to the last. I really liked the attraction and undeniable chemistry between Iain MacLeod who goes to Hathaway House for rehab for his serious injuries that occurred when he drove is truck over an IED and Robin Carruthers who works in the veterinary clinic. Ms. Mayer never disappoints whatsoever and I am looking forward to the next book from this gifted author. I received an advance reader copy of this book from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Another great read about wounded warriors. They all need special care in one way or another, but not pity. This is Iain’s story and the vet tech he meets is Robin. They both have baggage but they come together in the end. HEA.
This entry in the Hathaway House series is another winner. The characters are so caring and present the good side of people. We see the residents, in this case Iain progress to a new life and deal with their limitations. I especially liked the veterinary aspect of this and the animals showing their love. Robin’s love for the animal and how she cares for them and Iain is endearing. Iain responds to Robin and her caring heart. A truly sweet romance.
This is another great wounded warrior story . It is well written, entertaining, funny, romantic, and emotional. It had me from the first page. The characters are interesting and likable. I enjoyed reading this warriors and look forward to reading more stories from The Hathaway house series.
Iain by Dale Mayer
Hathaway House Series Book Nine
Iain MacLeod was going to start over. No more class clown to hide his pain. He was going to start his new beginning at Hathaway House. At the VA hospital, he was told he was as good as he’d ever be. He didn’t believe that…but once at Hathaway House, he allowed the doubts in. Especially since traveling by truck with his friend Bruce instead of by ambulance set him back.
Robin Carruthers noticed when Iain first came in. The pain in his face just getting out of a truck. She worked as a vet tech with Stan and in the few weeks she’d been at Hathaway House, she hadn’t had a lot of contact with the recovering men and women. But seeing Iain that first time cemented into her what they must be going through.
I love this series. It’s on the sweeter side and shows struggles that are probably very real in the folks who come home broken from war. And I hope there are really places like Hathaway House for our heroes.

I really enjoyed this book about a wounded warrior a lady vet tech wonderful animals who help raise spirits
All the characters in the book are a well.oiled team and bring stability to the story. A feel good book.
Iain, knew about Hathaway house, Had read about it and was intrigued. He had filled out many an application then tossed them away. This time he has filled it out electronically. He has done all he can do and doesn’t really think there is anything anyone can do. Robin had a life crisis and took a chance to work as a vet tech with Hathaway House. she loves it there. Seeing Iian arrive, she is wondering what his story is and is intrigued despite herself. This is another great wounded warrior story and kept me engrossed the whole time. I love these books. They are great.

Iain is a book in the Hathaway House series which focuses on the rehab of wounded veterans. The book looks at Ian’s physical injuries as well as his mental needs. I liked how after Iain was beginning to give up since he didn’t see any improvements, he is shown before and after pictures and realizes how much his improvement. I think that this can be applied to anyone trying to make changes. Sometimes it hard to see how small steps lead to big changes. I liked that the book also dealt with the mental aspect of recovery. All of this with a little romance, makes this a feel good story.

This series, “Hathaway House,” by Dale Mayer is very different from her usual romantic suspense novels.
Hathaway House is a rehabilitation place for military people who have severe injuries. It is the ideal rehab center with the best personnel, the best equipment and the best conditions. It also includes an animal hospital and shelter downstairs which gives both the residents and the animals a chance to intermingle.
This particular book is about Iain. Iain is not happy with his physical therapy or by the progress he is has made in his current location. He is very depressed, because they claim that it is time that he accepts his current condition and move on. Therefore, he decides to move to Hathaway House hoping that he will see more progress. And it is there that he meets Robin, his romantic interest, who works with the animals as a vet tech.
In the rest of this book, this author gives the reader a chance to get inside Iain’s head as he attempts to come to terms with his life-changing injuries. It also opens our eyes to the pain and suffering these men or women endure during their recovery times. Throughout this novel, Ms. Dale shares with the reader all of the different emotions that an injured soldier experiences.
I love this book because it opens the reader’s eyes to the realities of a soldier’s life when he is severely injured.
Hathaway House unlike any rehab you’ve been too. Iain is broken, he has given up on getting better, of being the best he can be, but he has one more shot, at being his best new self. Robin works at the Veterinarian Clinic on the property, and see’s Iain arrive, obviously in pain, but there’s something else there. This was a sweet story, with a lot of self discovery and growth personnel and as a new couple coming together. I think I am going to enjoy this series very much!
I really liked how you felt how much Iain felt like he was stuck in a rut and needed to come around to the new way of thinking and embrace the help around him, while Robin had to learn what she thought she needed for a career isn’t always what will make her happy. The fact we got a lot more time with the animals and in the vets was fun as they are also a big part of Hathaway House and when Iain got on the horse it was happy claps and a sweet moment. I just flove these book as each story is different but bettering oneself and doing the best you can always shines through.

Iain was injured serving and is now recovering and has transferred to Hathaway House. Robin is a vet tech working with the animals at Hathaway House. The relationship between the two is so sweet and is just the right balance of what it should be for starting fresh and recovering from the extensive trauma Iain has suffered. Hathaway House is so special. I highly recommend reading the series. I volunteered to read this book via Booksprout.
Another heartwarming read with another injured vet who comes to Hathaway house to heal his injuries he suffered and while there not only heal his physical injuries but also the ones no one else can see. Iain makes the transfer to Hathaway house hoping to get progress but sets himself back when his trip there takes more out of him than he realized. Once he’s finally ready to do the hard work, he meets Robin a vet tech who works there and he enjoys spending time with her and so does she. When Iain gets in a slump, Robin offers him an outlet which he accepts and thrives in writing all his thoughts and feelings down. But Robin is having a more difficult time taking her own advice and it may put a damper on their budding relationship…can she heal as well.
A great read with great characters I couldn’t help but fall for once again. I liked that Robin had her own struggles and wasn’t perfect, needing some healing of her own along with Iain. I LOVE these reads, the journey, the healing, the advice, the characters and of course the no drama or no OW drama. Heartwarming stories of struggles of physical and emotional pain and learning to move forward with the best of yourself.
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Fantastic!
Another sweet and heartwarming story! I love Hathaway House and its cast of endearing characters! Each and everyone care so much about the residents and take extra care to see that they progress and find their way to a healthier life with their journey there.
I enjoy the aspect of the veterinary clinic that is part of the program. Animals love unconditionally and don’t care what kind of baggage we bring. Robin has that loving nature for the animals and cares that they have an engaging life with plenty of space and sunshine to keep them healthy and happy. Her caring nature also expands to the people at the house. She is compassionate and caring about all of them, but one in particular, Iain, tugs at her heart.
Iain has almost given up hope of ever improving beyond his condition now. With his medical team and the supporting staff behind him, he finds more encouragement than he ever expected to achieve the progress he craves. He also finds that he responds positively to Robin and her caring heart. She knows him, on the inside, and knows what he is thinking and feeling.
This story is sweet, inspiring and tugs at your heart strings, a must-read for sure! I loved it!
I really enjoy this series. Another injured Navy SEAL gets the chance to rehabilitate in the best place possible. Meeting this Vet tech was a bonus. Great story, real events and wonderful characters. I highly recommend it.
I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.
This is the 9th book in the Hathaway House series, it is a standalone romance with plenty of heart. This series is really enjoyable, Hathaway House is a rehab facility that has a little something extra. The people who work there have the biggest kindest hearts and really make the patients feel welcome and loved which is what they need. When Iain arrives there, he is in a bad mental space but soon his outlook changes. He has a connection with Robin who works as a vet tech at the house and soon their friendship becomes deeper. Wonderful story!
Dale Mayer always keeps me captivated and hooked. Iain was simply amazing. Action packed and edge of you seat, falling in love this is a book for all.
Iain has arrived at Hathaway House to begin his intense physical work on improving his military related injuries. It’s a grueling recovery both mentally and physically. Iain is having trouble coming to with mentally with his recovery. Robin, a vet tec at Hathaway House, has developed an interest and has jumped into help. A touching story of determination and the caring people at Hathaway House along with it’s assortment of healing resident animals.
Iain was a bit surprised when he received the acceptance to Hathaway House. He does believe it’s the change he needs to make any real progress. However he makes a major mistake by having his friend Bruce drive him instead of traveling by ambulance. This causes a rather large setback before serious rehab can begin.
Robin sees Iain’s arrival and can tell he’s in pain, she doesn’t let him see her, she knows he would be embarrassed to be seen at his most vulnerable. Being a Vet Tech in the Veterinary Clinic below the rehab center is a dream come true for Robin. The job comes with lodging, and meals and a great salary.
One of the things Robin likes to do is bring animals up to visit with the human patients. It during one of those visits she meets Iain.
Now Robin and Iain have an up and down kind of relationship. She wants to help, and he’s not seeing his progress.
I love that we see much more of the animals in this one. They always lift my spirits.
This is an interesting journey for both Iain and Robin. They both have things to work out and for him it’s the added physical stuff too.
It’s amazing how Dale manages to show us something different in the lines of recovering in each of these books, and adds in that special romance for good measure.
I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
