Fearing his recovery from wounds received in an IED blast has reached it’s limit in his current facility, Navy SEAL Lain MacLeod applied and was accepted for further treatment at Hathaway House.
Robin Carruthers left a relationship and accepted a position as a Veterinary Technician with the clinic located in one wing of Hathaway House. Helping animals to recover in this beautiful environment might help her to heal from the hurt she carries inside.
As Lain and Robin work on healing themselves, they are drawn to each other despite the insecurities that could keep them apart. Little did they know how much help they would have.
Dani, Shane, Dennis and Stan are part of the staff who go above and beyond to care for their patients, whether in the treatment rooms, the dining facility, the pool, the Vet Clinic or outside in the pastures.
Tucked into the green countryside, Hathaway House offers its own kind of healing magic. The staff, wounded warriors and animals create a place that will live on in the readers’ hearts.

A fresh start..While Iain was the class clown at the VA hospital, Iain wants a fresh start when goes to the Hathaway House. Unfortunately, Iain chooses to have a friend drive him rather than arrive in an ambulance which sets his recovery back a few weeks. Veterinarian Tech Robin witnesses his arrival and admires his grit while empathizing with his pain. Recovery for Iain is more than physical recovery. Robin’s friendship with Iain helps him look beyond his physical impediments. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I thought that Iain and Robin’s relationship was very realistic. I liked that their deeper discussions which drew them together and helped their healing. I absolutely love this series. This particular book catches hold of you from the beginning and keeps you reading until the very end. I love that even though it is in a book, Hathaway House is there for the vets who need it. Wouldn’t our world be wonderful if we took care of our injured and/or disabled vets this way? The main character in this book has to come to terms with his disability and has help from someone who also has things to work through before thinking about entering into a relationship. They both help each other, a lot of times unknowingly. I love that this series focuses on the all around help that vets need including not just physical, but also mentally. It makes me wonder why we cannot do this for our veterans. Yes it may be expensive but look what these people have given for us! I also love that there are animals included in the series and that a lot of times the animals help the veterans to work through their pain and their psychological issues. And, some of the animals are disable too! Love love love this series and look forward to the next book!

Looking Backward to Move Forward
Our first introduction to Iain is his suffering the consequences of stubborn refusal to arrive at Hathaway House in an ambulance. Ironically, he applied for transfer to Hathaway House because he believed the VA hospital rehab unit he had been in felt that his current progress was the best he could expect to achieve. His class-clown behavior had resulted in a less-than-stellar reputation for him there. He hadn’t had to work hard, and thus he didn’t really know what he was capable of. Having heard reports that a lot of patients with injuries as serious as his were healing 100% at Hathaway House and walking out of there strong and healthy, he was motivated to work hard and change his ways. Instead, he spent some pretty painful days driving in his friend’s big pickup truck, literally regressing his recovery level by at least a couple of weeks, starting with full bed rest until he could be fully assessed. Robin, the vet-tech working with Stan and the animal patients downstairs, had seen Iain’s arrival and the pain he tried so hard to hide. Something in the way he hid his pain the same way the injured animals do (able to be seen only in their eyes) drew her to him. When they had occasion to chat in the dining room after Iain was finally able to get himself there, she found it easy to talk to him about also being relatively new to Hathaway House, something they had in common. As time passes, Iain has to adjust and trust, to minimize his stubbornness and step up his perseverance, in order to push through his intense suffering after physiotherapy sessions. Robin realizes that each of them needs to recognize long-past unacknowledged issues that are still inhibiting the progress they want to, but cannot seem to, achieve – and that neither is ready to talk about them with each other nor the therapists available to them. Robin picks up two journals that she hopes might help both Iain and herself recall past events and feelings for some self-analysis to understand their obstacles. What I liked best about this part of the plot line was that each one’s “journal journey” visited emotions they would probably not have linked to their current situations. I hope that readers benefit from this idea and also the ongoing message in the Hathaway House series that even brave and strong warriors have times when they need help to do the work of healing. All in all, a really great read!

Hathaway House is for our wounded warriors where the care is above what the VA can provide and is what each or our wounded deserve in the real world. This is Iains story and can be read as a stand alone. Iain has achieved all he can with the VA and has applies at Hathaway House. He is accepted and begins his journey. There are doctors, physical therapist, psychologists, pet therapy, everything Hathaway House can provide to help the wounded. Robin is a vet tech. How cool is this premise??? Helping the wounded warriors and wounded animals. My heart just swells with this, can it happen in the real world? Is something like this in the process? Robin is single again an dealing with her own issues but is there to cheer Iain on. This is truly a feel good, based on harsh reality in our war torn world today. Issues are dealt with a deft touch that teaches us (without our realizing it) as we cheer on Iains progress and mourn with the set backs. Thank you for another read that entertains me, moves me and makes me think. Thank you for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions!
Normally I don’t read books that tug on my heart but this series is different and I keep coming back for more because it also makes me happy. I enjoy the base setting of Hathaway House and the idea of unselfish people who are tuned in to the lives of others. There are life lessons in these books that apply to everyone not just the injured. I need to be reminded of these lessons as I’m human and forget even the basics like smiling. The animals are a wonderful addition and who can not smile at the llama named lovely and the horse named Apple who have been friends since they were born? Iain challenges are real and the explanation of how he handles them is well done. Robin has issues with her past, some of which most of us have experienced in one way or another. She’s not injured physically but there are other reasons to carry pain.
I really enjoyed this story and will come back for more! The epilogue has Iain talking to a friend trying to get him to apply to Hathaway House to work on his recovery. Jaden sounds as though he will do just that and I’m looking forward to this tale as well!

Determined to be where he wanted to be with his recovery, how that Iain MacLeod has been accepted as a patient into Hathaway House he knows he has a chance as he will get a new team with new professionals and methods. Vet tech Robin Carruthers works in the busy vet clinic at Hathaway House and meets Iain where she becomes his biggest cheerleader. However, as she sees Iain growing in many ways she is just standing still and making no progress with any issues she might have in her past. Can she find a way to sort everything out and will they find their way to the HEA they both deserve?
This was a sweet story that looked at some detail at the kinds of healing that are needed after any disability – both mental and physical. I loved the way that Robin was able to support Iain and some of the great suggestions that she came up with (something that might help us all). Well written and easy to read, this was a lovely story that started as a light read but actually turned into something far deeper. You do not need to read the previous books in the series to enjoy this and there is no sexual content.
Hathaway House a place to go to, to heal & grow, to think of ones life pathway does matter if your human or an animal as all here are treated the same. Lots of space, and support to get them though this. Love grows when you least expect it, you become happy within yourself has your confidence growing sharing the support of all around you. A wonderful love story which is keeping the new traditions at Hathaway House alive.
Iain goes to Hathaway House believing that he has progressed as far as he can with his injuries. Is he right or will the healing continue in the new environment. What challenges will he face? Will he find someone to share his future?
All is revealed in this well written and entertaining story which I thoroughly enjoyed.
These books are so inspirational, the pain and suffering of the injured, damaged patients not just the physical but the emotional just breaks my heart. But then they start finding some purpose, extra strength and the will to really start finding life again and love, which helps cheer me up again. The emotions are raw, stripped right back by the therapy and by just being at this fantastic rehab hospital, even by seeing the animals and how they deal with their own injuries. Iain is no exception, he has suffered so much pain in his healing to date but knows he needs more to be better than he is, his chance comes and he is determined to do whatever is needed even with a slow start. Building a budding friendship into a relationship plus the animals and caring staff soon have him improving even more than he ever expects. I love this series and each and every character that gets their own book and their recovery and love, each deserves it and more, I only wish the real life vets had even half of this help and support with their own very real struggles. Fabulous
Iain is the newest client at Hathaway House, and he is ready to progress in his recovery, but starts out rough with a truck ride to Hathaway House.. Alpha males are pretty stubborn after all.
Robin is a vet tech with a heart as big as Texas, but even she needs to look inside herself now and then.
What a wonderful story.. The recovery process is tough, but persistence pays off for everyone.
This is such a fantastic series. Loved my read!
Iain, a wounded SEAL with a determination to improve and strengthen, skips the ambulance and uses his own plan to reach Hathaway House. He quickly learns that independence can work or can hamper. Progress, growth, underlying sources of strength and hidden wounds, a matter of perspective. The characters are colorful and resemble a strong family geared on healing those around them. Tell me more, tell me more. Bravo!

Iain is looking forward to going to Hathaway House for a fresh start and a new beginning for the rest of his life. He is beyond stubborn though and it takes alot to get him to look inside himself to possibly find what is blocking him from seeing his progress.. Robin, the new vet tech, is connecting with Iain on a personal level and going on this internal journaling journey with him. It is not easy for either one of them to admit to themselves what is holding them back, much less to anyone else. However, once the internal locks are open, amazing things start to happen. Wonderful, clean book with terrific HEA.

Awwww I just want to hug this book. I love this series from Hathaway house and I have been waiting to long for the next instalment. Iain was so sweet when we were introduced to him but he did put his treatment back when he did his journey by truck with his best friend, Bruce, rather than by ambulance.
Robin is the vet tech working with all of the injured ammonia’s and those already on site. She was a sweet character who always seemed to have insightful saying to get people to think. As we see is Iain’s treatment and his mindset, we also see his friendship with Robin goes from strength to strength. Iain must get through his mindset to figure out a future. A awesome bit of writing and one I am sure I will read again. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.
