I was surprised, but it was a really good book.
I love the Joe Kenda TV episodes, and this book is an extension of them. It adds more personal notes on Joe and his family. The case details are interesting as he draws you into the investigation along with him. Having him do the narrative was an awesome benefit. We are right alongside him throughout the investigation!
Loved it!!
Love Kenda. Powerfully written. Don’t miss this great book.
Loved it and Joe Kenda!
Great details without bogging down at any point. Best of all, ‘oh my my’ you can hear his voice in every word. I always enjoyed watching and hearing Joe Kenda, now, after reading this book, I kind of have a crush on him.
Excellent read. Mr. Lends has quite the sennse
Absolutely fabulous book though the subject matter can be difficult it was a really informative read
Sounded just like Kenda. Include more insight to his work and how it affected him.
I love watching and listening to Joe Kenda on ID any chance I get. This book is just as captivating. Such a humble, caring, and at times, humorous account of the works of a Saint. God bless Lt. Kenda and his family for his service and dedication in helping to ensure justice for victims and their families. I can’t wait for the next book!
If you were drawn to this book by liking the television show, you will find it more of the same, which will be okay with most of us because we like it. There are almost no action scenes, unlike the TV show; it’s all explanation like Kenda does on the show. But because there are no scenes recreated with actors and props, we are spared the incorrect props that plague the show — the pump shotgun introduced into a scene when Kenda’s narration specifically identified the weapon as a double-barrel, or the rimmed revolver cartridges shown as evidence the weapon was such-and-such a semiautomatic pistol, even though semiautos shoot rimless cartridges and even people who do not own guns often know that. The book is in its way better than the TV show.
I love Homicide Hunter on ID and reading this book brought an even deeper love and understanding of the man. My My My
/ 5 rounded up!
I have been a big fan of Joe Kenda’s Homicide Hunter on the Investigation Discovery channel for some time now, so when I saw he had written I Will Find You: Solving Killer Cases from My Life Fighting Crime I knew I had to read it!
What it’s about: Retired Lieutenant from the Colorado Springs Police Department, Joe Kenda, talks about cases he saw throughout his 23-year career with the department, and a little bit about his personal life.
The scariest thing about I Will Find You is the fact that everything in this book really happened. I currently live in Colorado (although a decent distance away from Colorado Springs), and never would have guessed all the things that Kenda managed to see during his career. Sure I know there are a lot of bad people in the world, but this book really puts things in perspective.
I basically chose this book because I already knew who Kenda was through his television show, and I thought it would be very enlightening to read things from his perspective – especially things they wouldn’t be able to put on TV – and I was right. Kenda talks about what is going through his mind during his career and the cases mentioned, and you definitely get some extra details for the cases shown on Homicide Hunter.
I love Kenda’s dry sense of humor and it really shows through in I Will Find You. My family is basically ‘the Kenda family’ as we all really love Kenda, which means both his show and this book! I really enjoyed getting to know him a little better through reading this, and I had no idea when or why he had retired so that was information I’m glad he included here.
Song/s the book brought to mind: A mix of For What It’s Worth by Buffalo Springfield and Takin’ Care of Business by Bachman-Turner Overdrive.
Final Thought: If you are a Homicide Hunter fan, a Joe Kenda fan, or even just a true crime fan, I highly recommend reading I Will Find You. This is a heavier read while still managing to feel like it’s on the lighter side of things, and provided some nice details into the mind of Joe Kenda. The only reason I dinged it a half star is a few editing things, otherwise this book was gold to me!
I love Homicide Hunter. This was a great book to read. Especially for a mystery writer.
Audiobook review: Wow! I really appreciate the candor, the ups and downs that Detective Kenda shared in this autobiography. This book also brings to light the need to protect & provide for the mental health of LEOs. Providing constructive hobbies, to make something good. Kenda did an awesome job narrating!
I really enjoyed this book because the author shares his experience as a detective in a such a unique way. It left me wanting to hear more and hoping that he writes another book.
If you watch Homicide Hunter you can picture Joe Kenda reading this book in his own voice. He is glib and pulls very few punches. If you truly want to know what his life and career were like, then this is the book for you. As an avid watcher of the series I now truly understand why he can’t sleep at night. Some of the material is also covered in the series but some is not and that part of the book is not for the faint of heart. Colorado Springs was lucky to have him and if more police departments had people like him working for them, then I would sleep better too!
Thank you Joe for your dedication and for sharing your triumphs and heartaches. Enjoy your retirement-it was well earned.
