New York Times bestselling author Lorelei James kicks-off her Want You Series with a Lund family cousin hot enough to melt the ice and mend a broken heart.Former NHL star Jaxson Lund has returned to the Twin Cities, but he’s at loose ends, unsure if he belongs at Lund Industries, or where he stands with Lucy, his ex-girlfriend and mother of his daughter, Mimi. Despite the signs she’d like to … signs she’d like to leave him in the penalty box, the attraction burning between them reinforces his determination to prove that he deserves a second chance…
Lucy Quade is in a good place with a steady job, a nice apartment, and a well-adjusted daughter, which is why she’s hesitant when Jax insists on co-parenting. It’s not that Lucy doesn’t trust Jax…she’s just unconvinced he can handle multiple responsibilities when he’s been singularly focused on playing hockey. But when issues arise with Mimi, Lucy’s shocked at how levelheaded and paternal he acts, giving her a glimpse of the Jax she used to know, the sexy, sweet man she fell for years ago.
Once Lucy lets her guard down, Jax goes all in to show her how good they are together, but will their past remain too large an obstacle to ever overcome?

Lorelei James, who is the author of this book, is one my favorite authors, and if you read this book, you will understand why. Every book that she writes is always top quality. In this book, there is Jaxson, who is a retired professional hockey player, that has made many mistakes in his life, but now wants to be the best man and father, that he can be, to his little daughter, Mimi. Lucy, is Mimi’s mother, and Jaxson’s true love. I love her truthness, and many times, bluntness. This book has definitely earned its five plus stars from me. It is so real, and pulls you right into the wonderful story. I so enjoyed it, and highly recommend it.
Jaxson Lund and Lucy Quade have a history and a child.
Ms James was able to keep the story running at a great clip and not lose any momentum.
I was already in love with the Lund family before and now even more so.
Lucy doesn’t trust Jax except for when he has their daughter, then it is pretty much all in.
Jax is trying to re-enter normal life after a career as an elite athlete – hockey player. Of course, he is running into lots of road blocks. After retiring he started acquiring properties and secrets.
Lucy is trying to move on with her life but keeps reliving the past and remembering the love they shared.
Over all it was a well written second chance at the happily ever after that both were looking for.
I absolutely loved this book from the first page to the last! Jaxson and Lucy’s story is a second chance romance story of love and forgiveness. Jaxson and Lucy are fantastic together and I loved the banter between them and how they worked together to raise their daughter. The flashbacks to how they met and their past relationship were great and added a lot to the story. Jaxson just makes you swoon with how wonderful of a father he is now and how good he is to Lucy. He totally turned himself around and became a man worthy of the wonderful woman who loves him and their daughter. I love the Lund family and I’m hoping for many more wonderful stories to read!
I’ve been waiting for Jaxson and Lucy’s book and it had all the fireworks I expected from previous books with the Lund family. It took so much strength for Jaxson to face his addiction and rebuild his life, not to mention working to restore his relationship with Lucy and be a father.
I knew going into this book that this was going to be a good read. I am not sure that there is anything this author cannot write. This is a big book with a lot of details. She goes all in regarding details and as a reader, I REALLY like that about her books. This is a slow burn romance which makes sense that there would be a lot of depth to the details and how these characters got from there to here. This is not a cookie cutter romance by any means. She covers some pretty heavy topics, one of which I have never seen discussed in romance. Not only is it never talked about but she did it with such grace and tenderness. I realize that people read romance to escape real life things, but sometimes, just sometimes, it is refreshing to see real things that aren’t outlandish and how people learn from those mistakes and grow from them. Both of these topics are examples of how bad choices have consequences but it doesn’t define the person nor does it mean that someone hasn’t learned from their mistakes.
The characters were fantastic. I appreciated how Luce and Jax worked together. They had to overcome so many things that had broken them and learned how to let the past stay in the past and focus on the future. Their bickering/bantering was like foreplay and I loved every minute of it. I appreciate this author taking the risks that she did with them both laying all their cards out on the table. Some of the things were painful and harsh while others were sweet and vulnerable. There was a lot at play here and not just having a child who maybe wasn’t as keen on her parents getting back together again or dealing with alcoholism as another topic.
If this is a prequel into what the rest of this series is going to be like then sign me up.
I’m a sucker for hot hockey players so I’ve been waiting for Jaxson’s story since he was introduced back in What You Need. I really enjoyed that Jaxson’s story was a second chance romance with Lucy the mother of his daughter Mimi. Jaxson is a flawed hero doing his best to be a good dad to Mimi now that he has retired from the NHL. Lucy is doing her best to co-parent with Jax despite the trust issues they have. As they work on getting along for Mimi’s sake it becomes so much more.
No one can redeem a flawed bad boy hero like Lorelei James does. I was really invested in Jaxson getting his girl back.
This story is the first in The Want You Series. It could be enjoyed as a standalone but I think it is best enjoyed after reading The Need You series. You would appreciate the interactions with the Lund family more.
I am excited to revisit this world. I hope Dallas gets a book eventually!
Before I started this book I was having a hard time getting into a book and finishing. Lorelei James is an author that always bring me out of my book slump. And this new series is just what I needed.
I have been looking forward to Jax and Lucy’s story since they were introduced in the Need You Series.
This is the first book of the Want You Series. It is a second chance romance. Jax and Lucy had love before but to me it seems life got in the way and miscommunications lead to heartache. Now years later they come back together but when hard truth comes to light can these two find their way back together or will it continue to keep them apart? Find out these and more when you read this book.
I recommend this book as it was a fantastic read for me.
I am SO pumped to be reading about more Lund’s!!!! This is a continuation of the earlier series and hopefully the beginning of another wonderful set of storylines.
We met Jaxon Lund in the earlier books and knew a little about his early years. We knew his life with Lucy was less than perfect but we knew he would get a HEA because he was a Lund…and Lorelei is just sweet like that!
You don’t have to have read the other books as this is a complete stand alone but just like other LJ series, its always better to have the entire stories about all of the awesome families.
Jaxson Lund is an ex pro hocky player and baby daddy to an 8 year old named Mimi. Lucy, Mimi’s mom and Jaxson were a couple but never married because Jaxson was married to hockey and Lucy knew she could never compete with that. She raised Mimi alone, basically. Jax was partying, cheating, and became an alcoholic while Lucy was busy raising their daughter. Now Jax is retired, sober, not enjoying the flavor of the day, and wants to be a part of Mimi’s life all the time, but how much can Lucy trust him? Jaxson bulldozes his way into Lucy’s life; it seems every time she turns around. These two were so good together, can/will they rekindle that flame? Jaxson comes with a little extra something this time around that could be dangerous.
I enjoyed the characters so much. I found that I also loved Nolan!! Great beginning of a new series!!
Another 5 star read i couldn’t put it down i was hooked from start to finish. I will be recommending this book to friends and i can’t wait to see whats next from this author.
I Want You Back by Lorelei James was a sweet and charming second romance. Jax Lund’s life has been hockey, but now he is back home and trying to find his place, both at the family company and with his ex and daughter. Lucy Quade once loved Jax but is not sure what kind of man he is today. Can she trust him?
Jax was determined to show Lucy how good they could be if just given the chance. But there is more at stake than just her feelings, there is their daughter as well. Jax made some very bad choices in the past, but he has worked so hard to change his life. Lucy is in a good place, but slowly Jax begins to break down her walls. They had a lot of chemistry, but a lot to work through as well.
Though Jax’s choices may turn some away, this is a story about redemption, hope and second chances. Lucy was strong and determined, if a bit weary of Jax. But their journey is their own and one I enjoyed reading.
Happy reading.
Want You Back begins with Jaxson Lund, former NHL star and Lund heir, back in his hometown and at work in the family offices of Lund Industries. His ex-girlfriend (and mother of his daughter, Mimi), Lucy, works there as well, and even though they’ve reached a truce of sorts, he finds himself floundering not only at LI, but with his feelings for Lucy.
Lucy has worked very hard at Lund Industries and provided a good life for her daughter. All of the Lunds have stepped in at different times to, more or less, make up for the a$$hat of a father the little girl has. So Lucy has no idea why he’s being so nice to her. Yes, they get along, but she senses something else is going on with Jaxson. He is being a great daddy too and is being responsible in his co-parenting duties. Gone is the man who blew through town every now and again…………..
As Lucy and Jax navigate this new world of co-parenting, they both start to let their guard down and talk to each other. As old feelings emerge and truths are revealed, they each find themselves in almost new territory when issues arise with Mimi and are able to actually agree on what’s best for her. All of this leaves Lucy truly pondering if they can truly be the family she always wanted them to be.
I Want You Back is a great story of second chance love. Now, don’t get me wrong……..there’s a lot of water under the bridge as far as Jaxson goes, but the way it’s written leaves you really feeling for the guy. Lucy is a great character. Her relationship with the Lunds (even though she and Jax had been estranged for a long time) was written superbly and totally real-life believable. The chemistry between the two of them leaps off of the page and pulls you in. I also loved getting to see how they met and how their relationship was in the beginning via their flashbacks. We are also treated to the other Lunds, whom we’ve met in previous books. (The I Need You series) If you’re a fan of second chance romance and well written characters, you’ll not go wrong with any of James’s books, especially this one. I love the world she’s built with the Lunds. I can’t wait for the next. Well done, Lorelei James!! Very, very well done!!
Lucy and Jaxson were introduced in the Need You Series and I couldn’t wait to hear their story. I Want You Back didn’t disappoint. It’s now one of my favorites. It’s a wonderful story of 2nd chances, learning to be a family, and how to trust again. Lorelei James really hit it out of the park with this one!
Omg, I don’t even know where to start with this review. Well first off I freaking loved this book. It’s just so real. I truly cried and laughed with these characters. I just finished this book and I already want to read it again. This book might be a spin-off series but trust me it completely stands on its own.
I honestly love every book Mrs. James has ever written but I am not lying when I say this is my new favorite book and couple from her. I will be a Jackson fan forever.
Omg, this book is good.
We get the Jax and Lucy backstory as the two reconnectand remember different significant dates. We see just how bad Jax’s drinking was and learn the catalyst that took him to rehab. We see him trying to navigate this new self and his Lund family dynamic. I loved Lucy and how Jax is the only person who really sees her and gets her.
Great story!!
I Want You Back is Book 1 in the Want You series. This series is a spin-off of the Need You series but it stands perfectly fine on its own. Ms. James certainly pulled out all the stops with this story. Lots of twists and turns that packed some pretty big punches.
I’m not a huge fan of second chance, cheater romance novels but this book was amazing. Having already been briefly introduced to both characters before, I didn’t expect to like either Lucy or Jax but in typical James fashion, the author won me over. This story captivated me from the start and I had a hard time putting it down.
If you are looking for a romance that not only breaks all cookie cutter stereotypes but blows them away, look no further than I Want You Back.
I loved Jaz and Lucy s story which started in the Need You series. They were a couple you were afraid wouldn’t make it back together . But as with all her
books never say never. They fought hard to get what they had back. but not
with out some bumps in the road. This is and amazing story of 2nd chances
and reuniting love and gives us all hope that we can come back from the brink
and live the life we wanted.
Oh. My. Gosh.
Y’all, this was one of those books that I didn’t want to end. And it’s not a short book, but the more I read the more I wanted to keep reading. I was positively glued to it, and I still couldn’t get enough. And that, right there, is the hallmark of a fantastic book to me.
And it was fantastic. This is a second chance romance, so the story is told in present time and in flashbacks which are threaded neatly into the chapters as the characters experience the memories. I sometimes lose patience with books that rely heavily on flashbacks to paint me the picture of the love story, but that wasn’t the case here. I felt like the flashbacks were balanced pretty perfectly with the present love story, and there was no feeling of dread like an anvil was going to drop on me. We already knew what had happened to pull them apart. The flashbacks served to show us what brought them together in the first place, and establish the chemistry and connection that – even after everything fell apart – was never really severed.
I loved it.
I felt like Ms. James nailed the chemistry. I loved the sparks that flew between Jax and Lucy, the tenderness they showed each other, and ultimately the grace they gave each other in order to move on with their lives together. I adored the family dynamic – both between Jax, Lucy and Mimi, and between the entire Lund Collective. I felt like the “blended family” storyline was realistic and authentic and added layers to the love story that made me feel it on a much deeper level. I loved how the Lund collective pitched in, stood up, and stood by while Jax and Lucy sorted through their baggage and slowly made their way toward their happily ever after. There are layers here, and each one is complicated, nuanced, and completely lovely.
I Want You Back delivered for me on literally every level. Not only was the storyline compelling and addictive, but the love story set my heart aflutter and got my pulse racing. I loved the hockey pieces. I loved the character growth in both Jax and Lucy. I loved the sweet slow burn and the tiny little curveballs Ms. James threw at me. I completely adore the Lund family and am beyond excited to get more from them in the future. And I loved – loved, loved, loved – the happily ever after here. It was so sweetly satisfying, so adorably romantic, and absolute perfection for these two. I could not be more thrilled with this book and I absolutely recommend it!
Oh how I loved this book based out of Minneapolis.. We get to see more of the Lund families.. Jaxson is a retired hockey player coming back to be a dad to his 8 year old Mimi. Jax has done alot of clean up himself and is out to prove it to Mini but also her !I’m Lucy. Lucy is such a strong women who has had to be a tough single parent so learning to split time with Jax is new. What they discover is how much they love their daughter but that they also really get along well.. Thanks for giving us Jax and Lucy but now Lorelei James I want more!
Somehow I think this book is the best I have read in this series, I know this is a spin-off of sorts but I love the Lund family and this book hits me in all the spots.. I really loved Jax and Lucy; these two have dealt with every possible situation as a couple and as co-parents but they have found a way to make it through. It is not always easy or quick but love like this refuses to be denied!
Jax has made some serious mistakes in his life but his biggest regret is the way he handled things with Lucy and Memes and now he is determined to make it right…
Lucy has never expected much from men but Jax hurt her and now she is trying to move on, but her heart isn’t ready yet…
Definitely a must read book, you will fall in love with this family as quickly as I did!
