“[A] well-told suspense story…refreshingly realistic.”—The New York Times Book Review “Danger feels real in the brilliant I See You…Mackintosh seems destined to do important work for many years to come.”—The Washington Post “Mackintosh allots her characters the perfect amount of back story, allowing them to carry their own weight throughout the investigation. She also casts enough extras to … the investigation. She also casts enough extras to keep readers guessing who could be behind these attacks…readers may find themselves wanting to reread this one.”—Associated Press
“[A] deliciously creepy tale of urban paranoia.”—Ruth Ware, New York Times bestselling author of The Woman in Cabin 10
The author of the New York Times bestseller I Let You Go propels readers into a dark and claustrophobic thriller, in which a normal, everyday woman becomes trapped in the confines of her normal, everyday world…
Every morning and evening, Zoe Walker takes the same route to the train station, waits at a certain place on the platform, finds her favorite spot in the car, never suspecting that someone is watching her…
It all starts with a classified ad. During her commute home one night, while glancing through her local paper, Zoe sees her own face staring back at her; a grainy photo along with a phone number and a listing for a website called FindTheOne.com.
Other women begin appearing in the same ad, a different one every day, and Zoe realizes they’ve become the victims of increasingly violent crimes—including murder. With the help of a determined cop, she uncovers the ad’s twisted purpose…A discovery that turns her paranoia into full-blown panic. Zoe is sure that someone close to her has set her up as the next target.
And now that man on the train—the one smiling at Zoe from across the car—could be more than just a friendly stranger. He could be someone who has deliberately chosen her and is ready to make his next move…

you will look over your shoulder after reading this book; you won’t take the same route twice a week. Stays with you long after you have closed the book
When Zoe Walker sees her photo in the classifieds section of a London newspaper, she is determined to find out why it’s there. There’s no explanation: just a grainy image, a website address and a phone number. She takes it home to her family, who are convinced it’s just someone who looks like Zoe. But the next day the advert shows a photo of a different woman, and another the day after that.
Is it a mistake? A coincidence? Or is someone keeping track of every move they make . . .
In my humble opinion, there are few things better than a book with a well written twist. There you are, just reading along your merry way and BAM! Maybe you were ready for it, maybe you weren’t, but if it’s truly a twist, your mind may possibly short out for a moment, and it’s glorious. Now, I said there are few things better, but my absolute favorite thing is a book that ends well. When I say well, I don’t mean happily ever after with all the loose ends neatly tucked away. On the contrary, a good ending (again in my opinion) ends true to life. In real life, happily ever after is a rarity, and complete wrapping up of loose ends is nigh on an impossibility. Clare Mackintosh has apparently accepted these life truths and is unafraid to employ them in her books. I’m not going to say anything about the plot, because I don’t want to accidentally give away anything, but Ms. Mackintosh has produced another absorbing page turner. Her characters are multi-dimensional, and the dialogue flows naturally. Under normally circumstances, I would give I See You four stars, but because the ending left me cackling with glee (literally, as my coworker can attest), this, for me, is a five star read.
Really good read. I could not put it down. I finished reading the entire book in an hour. suspenseful and unpredictable . The ending was a shocker and totally unexpected. If you are looking for a page turner this your book
Great
For me, I See You was an engaging reading experience. The POV’s alternate between a policewoman assigned to a string of violent crimes and a woman who fears she will be the next target. The build up of suspense was good in my opinion, and I was truly eager to know who the perpetrator in this mystery/psychological thriller was. When I finally found out the who, what, why, etc… I have to admit I was disappointed in the lack of creativity. I mean, I was surprised. It was a person I hadn’t expected, but still. It went from A-list blockbuster to Lifetime movie. Nothing wrong with Lifetime movies mind you, but you’ve got to admit, they’re not quite as memorable. This is just my opinion though. I’m sure there will be some very satisfied readers out there, and to be clear, I liked it overall (3 stars). If you enjoyed this author’s debut, it’s worth the time to check out this second release. Check it out!
Before you ask – no i did not guess the ending. Once again I was sucked into an all day/night read. Zoe Walker a divorced mom with a new live in boyfriend and two new adults at home thinks she is being stalked when her picture appears in an advertisement for FindTheOne.com. Zoe starts watching the ad and then finds the picture of one person who is murdered. Zoe enlists the help of a damaged reassigned inspector in finding out who is posting the ads. The story intertwines good friends, family and neighbors along with the live-in boyfriend, the daughter’s boyfriend, the ex-husband and Zoe’s boss. Needless to say it gets better with each page except for the inspector portions. The detective work is ok but the interpersonal relations between the past inspector and other police members are not believable. I did not take off a star for this one because the story was so very good. Enjoy!
Good story, well plotted. Characters are little cliche but the plot drew you in and the climax was good.
Excellent!
It’s an improbable plot presented with style that got this reader feeling uneasy in the first quarter of the book and kept the suspense building. Surprise ending after a roller coaster ride. Really good.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in return for an honest review.
I must admit, I gave up halfway through and just started skimming through the story to see whodunit. This is slow and plodding, yet the premise of the book could have been really exciting. There were way too many details about insignificant things which just made the book boring. When Zoe and Katie run to Melissa’s house, they spend a page talking about locking the door! Storyline had so much potential, but the story just bogs down.

Zoe Walker is not the kind of woman one would expect to find in the middle of a criminal conspiracy. Older, withgrown children, she is happy working as an accountant and spending time with her partner, a journalist. Until she sees her picture in an advertisement for a dating website.
FindTheOne.com is not your ordinary dating site. You need a password to access the site, and it costs an exhorbitant fee to join. The women pictured on the webpage don’t know they are available. Oh, and some of them are being raped and/or murdered.
As Zoe teams up with an intrepid investigator eager to redeem her professional reputation they discover a world in which men pay to stak the woman of their choice. Sometimes they have honorable intentions. But as the police identify more victims connected to the website it is clear the service has a darker purpose, catering to men who wish to victimize women.
As Zoe tries to figure out who put her picture in the website, her imagination and anxiety run wild. Is it her boss? Her boyfriend? The man who attempts a clumsy rescue and asks her for a date? She runs the gamut of emotions with each possibility, never realizing the monster is much closer than she imagined.
A savvy reader will discern the clues and figure out the culprit before the climax, but this does not spoil the ending, or make the book less disturbing. If you use dating apps, or sign up for websites looking to find your perfect match, you will experience a growing sense of horror as you turn the pages. There is little to prevent something like this from existing in real life except the dubious moral consciences of the people participating.
This makes I See You compelling and compulsive reading. The relevance is downright unnerving and creepy, and will make you question the safety of swiping right for a long time to come.
Zoe Walker is shocked one day to see her face in the advertisements in the local paper. Someone is using the paper to post information about women through a website that has women being stalked on their daily routes. I really didn’t see it coming when the person behind the website is revealed- a very good suspenseful read!
Excellent book with lots of twists and family drama!
This book is so terrifying because its events are (almost!) plausible, and centred around such a normal, averagely disfunctional family. I sympathised with the main character, Zoe, who’s just trying to do the best for her family when she gets sucked into a whirlpool of intrigue. But she’s determined to get to the bottom of it, and her ordinary heroism is riveting. Recommended, if you don’t mind being frightened away from taking public transport ever again!
Such a chilling crime, and so many viable suspects. I actually didn’t see it coming. Well done, Clare Mackintosh!
A great page-turner with a spine-chilling premise!
One of the psychological thrillers written right to the last page!
The brilliant second novel from the amazing Clare Mackintosh!
A deliciously compelling thrill ride that plunges into the depths of urban paranoia. You’ll never look at social media, the internet and especially your commute in the same way ever again. Looking behind yourself the whole time. The premise is absolutely terrifying.
One her evening commute home, Zoe Walker notices an advert in the London Gazette for what looks like a dating website, FindTheOne.com. Accompanying the ad is a photo…of her!
Alarmed and curious, she looks at other issues of the Gazette and finds more ads for the site with photos of many different women.
Seeing the news, Zoe recognizes the victim of a violent crimes as one of the women in the ads.
This victim won’t be the only one.
Zoe herself begins to as she’s being watched and followed.
With the help of a determined police officer, Kelly Swift, Zoe uncovers what the website is really being used for. You will be shocked to the core.
This is an awesome thriller that also provides a look at modern family life along with the unexpected shocks and twists that makes us love Ms. Mackintosh’s stories.
The writing is so good.
Oh, and at the end? Be prepared to pick your jaw up from the floor. (less)
Awesome book! Scary premise, did not see the end coming!
Good suspenseful story but the ending came out of nowhere
