This classic science fiction masterwork by Isaac Asimov weaves stories about robots, humanity, and the deep questions of existence into a novel of shocking intelligence and heart. “A must-read for science-fiction buffs and literature enjoyers alike.”—The Guardian I, Robot, the first and most widely read book in Asimov’s Robot series, forever changed the world’s perception of artificial … the world’s perception of artificial intelligence. Here are stories of robots gone mad, of mind-reading robots, and robots with a sense of humor. Of robot politicians, and robots who secretly run the world—all told with the dramatic blend of science fact and science fiction that has become Asimov’s trademark.
The Three Laws of Robotics:
1) A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2) A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3) A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
With these three, simple directives, Isaac Asimov formulated the laws governing robots’ behavior. In I, Robot, Asimov chronicles the development of the robot from its primitive origins in the present to its ultimate perfection in the not-so-distant future—a future in which humanity itself may be rendered obsolete.
“Tremendously exciting and entertaining . . . Asimov dramatizes an interesting question: How can we live with machines that, generation by generation, grow more intelligent than their creators and not eventually clash with our own invention?”—The Chicago Tribune

The laying down of the laws, will they work or is there always a flaw to take advantage of in our own secure world!
Think future problems and solutions. like russian dolls, nested secrets.
Isaac Asimov’s best work
A classic!
NOTHING like the movie. It is completely different and may have one small aspect that is similar but that’s about it. This book is more a fictional chronology of robots over time. It’s really cool and a unique read.
Great stories. Well crafted.
Isaac Asimov has been lauded by sci-fi readers and writers alike as one of the best, and the accolades are well deserved.
I read this book years ago but it still holds up today as we get closer to true artificial intelligence with computers.
If you’re looking for the movie version script, this ISN’T it!!! Decent book but the movie is different and much better.
Read this book in college.Really liked the 3 laws. Liked the latest movie hated the older one.
Thought provoking, but somehow disappointing.
Asimov’s writing holds up even in the new millenia
One of the seminal works of science fiction, especially with respect to robots.
There are two sequels to the original “I Robot”. I’m not sure if they are available, but they are good stories.
Issac Asimov. Robert A Heinlein. This review covers both. If you are a sci-fy fan and have not read the classics, pick up anything by either author. You’ll have a winner.
This is a fantastic book, I read this book when I was 12 years old (decades ago) and it still holds up today!
So much more than the movie, many more stories!
Asimov was my favorite author 50 years ago. Still one of the great ones.
What can you add to the book that set the standard for Robot/Android themed novels. This is the one that created the Three Laws of Robotics and influenced science fiction for generations of writer to come. Truly a masterpiece from one of if not the greatest Science Fiction Writer ever, which as all his fiction is immensely enhanced by his being …
I read this book for a second time after many years and I enjoyed it. Great character story and I would recommend this book to anyone reading a sci-fi book for the first time.
If you’ve seen the movie don’t expect the book to be anything like it. This is a series of stories with robots. They are good. Some are funny. Some are sad. All will make you think.
The original collection of Asimov’s short stories, all of them gems. Probably not worth pursuing the novels that followed.
