This classic science fiction masterwork by Isaac Asimov weaves stories about robots, humanity, and the deep questions of existence into a novel of shocking intelligence and heart. “A must-read for science-fiction buffs and literature enjoyers alike.”—The Guardian I, Robot, the first and most widely read book in Asimov’s Robot series, forever changed the world’s perception of artificial … the world’s perception of artificial intelligence. Here are stories of robots gone mad, of mind-reading robots, and robots with a sense of humor. Of robot politicians, and robots who secretly run the world—all told with the dramatic blend of science fact and science fiction that has become Asimov’s trademark.
The Three Laws of Robotics:
1) A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2) A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3) A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
With these three, simple directives, Isaac Asimov formulated the laws governing robots’ behavior. In I, Robot, Asimov chronicles the development of the robot from its primitive origins in the present to its ultimate perfection in the not-so-distant future—a future in which humanity itself may be rendered obsolete.
“Tremendously exciting and entertaining . . . Asimov dramatizes an interesting question: How can we live with machines that, generation by generation, grow more intelligent than their creators and not eventually clash with our own invention?”—The Chicago Tribune

very realistic the 3 LAWS MAKE SENSE, story lines are truly on board with idea of robots and there interaction with people and there place in the human world.
You have to read this one before all the others. You come to understand the most about robotics and see how it is woven through 80% of hist books.
Sooooo much better than the movie. I could never find the book in the movie and the movie left me a little unsettled. So, I reread the book. It was as wonderful this time around as it was the first time. I still can’t see any of the wonderful touching scenes from the book in the movie. But, aren’t books usually better than movies anyway?
I read this when I was a kid in the 1950’s. It was great then. The Three Laws of
Robotics! I have reread it many times. Worth it.
True Clasic
I’d read I, Robot a couple of times, but none in the last couple of decades. It’s an entertaining book but it is definitely more focused on deductive reason than on humans. All the major characters (including the robots) are flat characters lacking much variety in what they are. But the puzzles are interesting.
Love the whole series. Last of the Robots and the lead in to the foundation. I own all 13 books and have read them many times.
Doc Asimov was the real deal, a Renaissance man, scientist, soldier, professor, writer of wildly speculative stories and novels. I Robot may not be the 1st SF novel written about robots and how they would impact human society but it is one of the best. It lays much of the Foundations for the worlds he would later flesh out in his Caves of Steel …
I read this years ago before Kindle. Great story.
This is a must read for any sci fi fan or anyone interested in robots. T
Asimov’s “Three Laws of Robotics” are the foundational. These stories also demonstrate the principle of unintended consequences. Trying to come up with a solution to the problems presented is great fun.
Forget the movie! If you have not read this, crawl out of whatever hole you’ve been hiding in and do so at once! Then read the whole Asimov robot series!!!!
Asimov was a genius.
I liked that this book explained the rules of robotics, as they should be, and the problems that could occur.
Asimov. Enough said.
I, Robot is one of Asimov’s best. His Robot series has led many other authors to include Androids and other mechanical or bio-engineered creatures in stories. A must read for Sci-Fi fans. You’ll see where this genre had it’s beginning.
If you can find the original, read it.
What an influential and prophetic book! The “Laws of Robotics” tend to be assumed in the way we think about robots (and AI generally) as they may develop in the future.
I would describe this book as thought provoking.
not at all like the movie. this was a very good book! sort of the start on a series, which i can recommend to all sci-fi fans!
I read this for the first time years ago, and rereading it was rewarding. Highly recommended.
