This classic science fiction masterwork by Isaac Asimov weaves stories about robots, humanity, and the deep questions of existence into a novel of shocking intelligence and heart. “A must-read for science-fiction buffs and literature enjoyers alike.”—The Guardian I, Robot, the first and most widely read book in Asimov’s Robot series, forever changed the world’s perception of artificial … the world’s perception of artificial intelligence. Here are stories of robots gone mad, of mind-reading robots, and robots with a sense of humor. Of robot politicians, and robots who secretly run the world—all told with the dramatic blend of science fact and science fiction that has become Asimov’s trademark.
The Three Laws of Robotics:
1) A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2) A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3) A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
With these three, simple directives, Isaac Asimov formulated the laws governing robots’ behavior. In I, Robot, Asimov chronicles the development of the robot from its primitive origins in the present to its ultimate perfection in the not-so-distant future—a future in which humanity itself may be rendered obsolete.
“Tremendously exciting and entertaining . . . Asimov dramatizes an interesting question: How can we live with machines that, generation by generation, grow more intelligent than their creators and not eventually clash with our own invention?”—The Chicago Tribune

Love the Good Doctor
Every science fiction fan must read this.
It’s been awhile since I’ve read any of Asimov’s books, though when I was younger I mowed them down one by one. I enjoyed every one of them. Couldn’t get enough of his humor and science. Great write and scientist. Miss him.
one of the greatest sci-fi books ever written. the paradigm a lot of hacks have tried and failed to copy.
Coming true
If you’ve seen the movie “based” on I, Robot, and think you’ve got the gist of it, you’re wrong. I mean, you’re as wrong as wrong can be. So here’s the background.
Isaac Asimov (a true 20th century American genius), grew up reading pulp magazines and loved science fiction. But he noticed that a lot of pulp scifi involved stories of evil robots, …
Better than the movie
so long ago, but I remember it being mind expanding. I consider it educational. sf nerds, if u don’t know already, i’m sure this one’s most nerd’s required list. this is the one that got the name Asimov stuck in my head
What can I say? It’s the classic Asimov. This has my favorite female character written by Asimov. And it’s the book that started the entire Robot series, and spilled over into the Foundation Series later on. Read the book that started it all.
A classic from the master. Mesmerizing enough to re-read several times.
Isaac Asimov was my introduction to science fiction, and what an intro wonderful and skillful introduction his robot books were!
Though not posted this way this book ties in with The Foundation series, many will recognize the name from Will Smith’s movie. I found it thoroughly enjoyable.
Isac Asimov is a creative genius. His robot stories are wonderful. Each one can be taken on its own, but they have been strung together beautifully with some joining prose. Some of the stories and themes don’t hold up as well as others so many years after being written, but overall, they are all solid stories and show the birth of robots as …
I have been a lifelong fan of the author – his words pull you into the world and keeps you there.
