NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “A gem of a novel.”—Jodi Picoult, #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Spark of Light and Small Great ThingsFrom the author of Surprise Me comes an irresistible story of love and empowerment about a young woman with a complicated family, a handsome man who might be “the one,” and an IOU that changes everything.Fixie Farr has always lived by her father’s motto: … changes everything.
Fixie Farr has always lived by her father’s motto: “Family first.” And since her dad passed away, leaving his charming housewares store in the hands of his wife and children, Fixie spends all her time picking up the slack from her siblings instead of striking out on her own. The way Fixie sees it, if she doesn’t take care of her father’s legacy, who will?
It’s simply not in Fixie’s nature to say no to people. So when a handsome stranger in a coffee shop asks her to watch his laptop for a moment, she not only agrees—she ends up saving it from certain disaster. To thank Fixie for her quick thinking, the computer’s owner, Sebastian, an investment manager, scribbles an IOU on a coffee sleeve and attaches his business card. Fixie laughs it off—she’d never actually claim an IOU from a stranger. Would she?
But then Fixie’s childhood crush, Ryan, comes back into her life, and his lack of a profession pushes all of Fixie’s buttons. As always, she wants nothing for herself—but she’d love Seb to give Ryan a job. No sooner has Seb agreed than the tables are turned once more and a new series of IOUs between Seb and Fixie—from small favors to life-changing moments—ensues. Soon Fixie, Ms. Fixit for everyone else, is torn between her family and the life she really wants. Does she have the courage to take a stand? Will she finally grab the life, and love, she really wants?
Praise for I Owe You One
“This book is a shot of pure joy!”—Jenny Colgan, author of The Bookshop on the Corner
“A humorous exploration of family life, finding love and the difficulties of coming into one’s own as a young professional woman . . . The entertaining cast of characters . . . will certainly remind readers why nineteen years after her first hit Kinsella remains one of the reigning queens of women’s fiction.”—The Washington Post
“I Owe You One is another impossibly delightful story by Sophie Kinsella, a must-read for her die-hard fans and new readers alike.”—PopSugar

It was such a delight to watch Fixie come into her own personally and professionally and to watch her siblings adjust their expectations of their baby sister. And the ending was not only swoon-worthy but one of the best endings I’ve ever read.
A fun read.
Cute story. Easy read
Another wonderful book by Sophie Kinsella!
Very well written in Sophie’s usual style. Intriguing plot.
Ok, wrapped up too easily
Overall great read. It’s been awhile since I read Sophie Kinsella, and now I want to read more!
I like author Sophie Kinsella anyway. This was a clever story and I loved the way she didn’t tie everything up in a neat bow. I was a little nervous right up to the end. Very enjoyable.
I would give I Owe You One a rating of six stars out of five, if I could. It was very well-written–as can be expected of Ms. Kinsella. I didn’t feel I was “taking a chance,” choosing one of her novels, as I have purchased her work before. I suspected I would be totally entertained, and I was was right !
The build up of the romance was realistic, as was the emotional growth of the characters. I saw through some of the interference of the supporting characters in the final scenes, and some I didn’t. Those that I DIDN’T suspect made me draw in my breath at the moxie it took. Long live the loving intervention of true friends, is all I can say !
Kudos to Sophie Kinsella for this enjoyable and easy read.
Cute but predictable.
This book was a slow build but once I got 1/3 through I ended up falling in love with the story! 4.5 stars
I loved this book! I Owe You One had a fabulous meet-cute and the character-building was wonderful. Highly recommend!
I listened to this on audio. Love the reader’s British voice.
At one point, Sophie Kinsella was my go-to author for women’s fiction but for some reason it’s been years since I’ve read one of her books. I’m glad to see that the spark is still there and I will definitely be putting in some time to catch up now that I know. I truly enjoyed I Owe You One, though I must admit, at times I was supremely annoyed with the heroine, her brother, her sister, her uncle, and her crush – simultaneously. But as the story progressed, and Fixie became less passive and starting speaking up for herself, my enjoyment of the book increased exponentially. I also really liked Seb and the way that they both helped each other to grow as individuals. I do wish more time was spent with them as a couple; they went from acquaintances to lovers rather quickly. I also felt some type of way about Seb’s actions when they had their falling out. Other than that, I honestly couldn’t put the book down and I’m now adding Sophie Kinsella back to my “must read” author list. 4 out of 5 wine glasses.
An interesting idea about a series of IOUs that force a woman to reconfigure her romantic and familial expectations.
This book was refreshing. The start was a little slow, but the time it took to build was worth it. The characters were so well constructed, each reminded me of someone I know. With a main character who is easy to root for, a bad guy who is easy to hate, and a romance that you can’t help but root for- I truly enjoyed this book.
I can’t love Sophie Kinsella more and each of her book launches is like Christmas day to me. After this introduction you may have guessed that I’ve adored her most recent novel, I Owe You One.
As it happened to me with all the previous Kinsella’s heroines, I wanted Fixie to be my best friend. How does Kinsella manage to always present a protagonist who feels both new and familiar is what made me become her biggest fan. And this time is no exception: Fixie is a multitasker, a do-it-all woman who likes to fix things for others, but doing so messes up her life. The plot is full of laugh-out-loud, hilarious, tender, and relatable moments, and the love story is just… delicious. If you like this author, don’t miss this one. And if you don’t, likewise… don’t miss this one! It will leave you with a good feeling in your heart.
Sophie Kinsella kills it again. Lovable characters and intriguing story lines make this another hit.
I Owe You One was a good book. It was an original entertaining story.
Fixie was a young woman who worked in the family store. Her sister was a little pre-occupied with herself and her brother was always into one scheme or another. I seemed that Fixie was the only one who tried to make the store as her father had left it.
One day, Fixie is in a coffee house and a man asked he to watch his laptop. Well, Fixie saved his laptop from damage when part of the roof fell down. So, Sebastian gave her an IOU that she could cash in when she needed.
If you’re a fan of Bridget Jones Diary, you will love this book by Sophie Kinsella!
