With his stunning debut novel, She’s Come Undone, Wally Lamb won the adulation of critics and readers with his mesmerizing tale of one woman’s painful yet triumphant journey of self-discovery. Now, this brilliantly talented writer returns with I Know This Much Is True, a heartbreaking and poignant multigenerational saga of the reproductive bonds of destruction and the powerful force of … powerful force of forgiveness. A masterpiece that breathtakingly tells a story of alienation and connection, power and abuse, devastation and renewal—this novel is a contemporary retelling of an ancient Hindu myth. A proud king must confront his demons to achieve salvation. Change yourself, the myth instructs, and you will inhabit a renovated world.

Once I start reading it, (I’ve read it multiple times) I become obsessed and read it while I am drying my hair and waiting in traffic. It’s a beautiful novel that brings a troubled family history (set in Italy) to a present -day tragedy. It’s my favorite work by the author.
I Know This Much Is True, by Wally Lamb, is one of the very best books I’ve ever read. And I’ve read many. It’s actually two stories in one, entwined with originality and intrigue. Lamb takes his readers on a moving, thrilling ride that holds them captive until the last sentence. I couldn’t put it down, always hungry for the next paragraph. …
I read it many years ago and loved it. I’m reading it now again.
Liked it a lot!
This one looks interesting and I haven’t read Wally Lamb in a long time. Putting it on my TBR.
This is my favorite book. I have read it more than once. The story is so well told, very well thought out and some parts are profoundly insightful.
One of the best books I have ever read.
Epic book, I’m sorry it took me so long to have it recommended to me. The family dynamic was sad and always changing. Mostly from males points of view. I recommend this book highly.
Beautiful, heart rendering story. Very well written.
Excellent
Read this years ago when it was first published. Couldn’t put it down (and it’s very long).
One of my favorite books of all time. It’s been years and i’ve Just decided to read it again.
This book literally changed my life and the way I looked at how our past can shape our lives. As it tells the story of twin brothers who cannot be more different as one suffers from schizophrenia and the other becomes his caregiver after a startling scene in the very first pages. It goes back and forth telling their genealogy several generations …
One of the books in my early 20s that still remains with me now in my mud 40s.
A look into how families deal or do not deal with the mental problems of a family member. How does this situation impact their relationships with others outside the family.
Couldn’t put the book down.
This is one of the best books I have ever read. I read it twice. Wally Lamb is one of my very favorite authors.
I would liked to have given this novel five stars for keeping me engrossed and interested right through, but the excessive detail in sections and the desire to tie up all the loose ends into a happy ending sort of moved it into the Nicholas Sparks category for me – 4 stars would suffice.
Right from the opening chapter when the sweet-hearted but …
such an incredible writer and teller of storires
Good book and story – length could have been cut down though.
