The latest romance from Ilsa Madden-Mills!
Happy sigh is there anything better than an enemies to lovers romance? So good!
This book had me aching for the characters, rooting for them, just a great book with a flaw, wonderful, insecure heroine and a handsome, tough, fumbling hero. You will not only fall in love with them but root for them and I has a very satisfying ending!!
Great characters, as always! Fun to read! Charisma is the kind of person you want as a good friend! Spunk and fiercely protective over those she loves. Her family life and yankee roots was a perfect fit for Blaze the lonely hero who wins double when he gets the girl and the family he’s never had! So fun to read!
Angsty in all the right places, and explores insecurities and trauma in an appropriate way. There are some really compelling and romantic moments that I thoroughly enjoy. My first time reading a novel by Ilsa Madden-Mills, and it won’t be my last!
I have to say that this Hate to Love story has definitely shot into my favourites!! The writing, the characters, the whole emotional feel in this book from beginning to end was way beyond my expectations.
Blaze and Charisma have been hooking up, well that was until he publicly humiliated her and dumped her at a frat party.
From that beginning i really didn’t want to like this guy !! He might be a football god and the hottest thing on two feet, but i really didn’t want to like him if he could treat women like that right?
Charisma isn’t really into relationships, but she’s still floored and totally hurt by how Blaze has spoken and treated her. Now this girl i loved !!! She called him out on his crap, she took no prisoners, and i adored her gutsy attitude, even if it was all a front and hiding what she was feeling on the inside. A girl who didn’t want and wasn’t looking for love, captured me with her flawless ability to love hard, yet making him work for it, has made her one of my favourites heroines.
They say there is a fine line between hate and love, Ilsa Madden Mills obliterated that line for me !!
I just had to love Him!! He was definitely a complicated guy but i loved his heart and getting to know him was a blast !!! The sexiness oozed out of him and into my heart, the charm, the ego, the banter and his determination won me over and left me in a huge mushy puddle!! Just keep your eyes out for Vampire Bill!!!!
“Ugh. He’s a sparkly, sexy unicorn. And everyone wants to ride him.”
Confession, I don’t blame them. He is sexy. But, he’s also broken, which makes him even more attractive to me. I can’t resist broken bad boys. I love it when they hate each other, too. There’s so much to like about this story that I don’t know where to start, here goes…
She got dumped publicly and has an attitude. After licking her wounds, she’s determined to prove to him she doesn’t need him and to show him what he’s missing. Unfortunately, when she sees him again she realizes she’s still among the horde of females who can’t look away when he’s in the room. How frustrating that must be, huh?
What she doesn’t know is the real reason he pushed her away. He hurt himself almost as much as he did her when he deprived himself of her. But, it’s for the best, right? Yeah, keep telling yourself that, Blaze. Especially when you see how hot she looks and how many other guys would love to pick up where you left off. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but the more he’s thrown into her orbit the harder it is to convince either of them that he hates her…
The author steamed up my Kindle and my temper with this tempting tale. She had me going from seething to smiling and then from sad to smirking and back again. She melted my heart and my panties with emotion and passion. I wanted to throw a match to watch the explosion that their chemistry would create if they ever allowed it to combust…again. But, at the same time, I thoroughly enjoyed the buildup. They threw heat and sass at each other and it was very entertaining.
Damn. “I like you bossy as long as you know I’m really in charge.”
Not only is there #FOOTBALL it is #FUNNY & #HOT! Grab your copy of I Hate You, you won’t be disappointed. Have you seen the cover? IKR? This one definitely deserves a spot on my bookshelf. The line forms here…
I see you, ALWAYS
I absolutely loved this book!!
Author Ilsa Madden-Mills knows how to make you feel like you’re right there with the characters , feeling ALL THE FEELS!!
Blaze and Charm will have you crying, laughing, and falling in love!!
Now I’ll be the first to admit that I am no spring chicken, I am a vintage gal with a mind of a much younger gal. And I will also admit that YA/NA trope usually isn’t my go to for my swooning needs.
But when Ms. Madden-Mills writes a story, I am the first one to push the “One Click” button or grab it from my bookstore. Her stories are amazing no matter what your age may be.
This is Blaze and Charisma’s story, a true tale of the saying “A Thin Line Between Love and Hate” Two very powerful emotions.
I could empathize with Charisma’s self-esteem issues, we all have them at one point in our lives. Charisma’s past has unfortunately molded her future in a way that built walls around her so thick that nobody could see what a fantastic heart beat inside her.
Blaze, oh this hero. I could totally relate to him. I have a child with ADD and to see this fella’s plight really pulled at my heartstrings. He too has a past that has molded his future and even with his handsomeness and popularity at college, he has his own insecurities and vulnerability that makes you want to squeeze him tight.
Seeing past characters make appearances was lovely and it was like having a mini reunion and catching up with what everyone was doing. It just brought more to the story!
Ms. Madden-Mills has yet to write a story that I haven’t devoured and loved immensely! I Hate You is no exception! Well done!
I am a big fan of Ilsa Madden-Mills and have loved every book I have read of hers so far and I know I may be in the minority here, but I just didn’t love this one as much as the others. It was good but it just wasn’t great for me. I adored Blaze and so badly wanted him to feel love after all he went through. Also he was super sexy so that’s always a plus but I wasn’t a huge fan of Charisma and had a hard time feeling a connection between them. Not sure if I can pinpoint what it was about her but she kind of drove me nuts. I did love Vampire Bill though. He was one feisty bird. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
What a heart-wrenchingly touching story! As a mom, reading Blaze’s story was heartbreaking for me. I could feel this boy’s fear, sorrow, and longing. It really made me want to jump in there and fix those awful people. Charm had her fears too, but these two raw-hearted people managed to find each other and not hide or run away. So many potholes along the way, but they came through. The songs throughout the book set the stage. Be sure to discover the Spotify playlist. And Blaze’s sweet movies that he loved, Say Anything, Elf. Lord, I love that boy. I have not read the other two books that go along with I Hate You, but I am now. I am a fan of Ilsa’s Dirty English and Filthy English. I have to say Pirate Bill the African Grey was an exceptionally wonderful addition to the book. You know African Greys have the intelligence of a toddler, so they are very attuned to the people around them. I enjoyed reading how Pirate Bill “took” to Blaze immediately. The connection between the two discarded and discounted beings was cry worthy. Ilsa does a fantastic job of evoking emotions and really lets you feel the struggle her characters are going through and the joy when they reach the other side. I highly recommend this book.
Enemies-to-lovers?? Yes please!
And emotional Sports-Rom-Com with an HEA…sign me up!! Can’t wait to read this one!!
I have three words for you …
Pressure
Confidence and
DING!
This is my esscence of “I Hate You” by Ilsa Madden-Mills.
The book wasn’t the first I read from this author and it will not by my last if she continues this type of writing quality.
Even if it was easy for me to come up with a “3 word essence” it is hard for me to find the right words to describe my thoughts about the storyline.
Simply because I went into the story thinking “I wonder how this author will try to sell my a male lead that sounds like a jerk from the blurb on” … and when I read the first pages I wondered …
I loved previous books by this author but this book was so different and I could not place my finger on it. Now at the end of the story I am still wondering if this type of writing is something I like but let’s say … this author sold it to me (and the jury is still out if another could do the same)
Coming back to the plot and the characters the blurb pretty much sums up what you might expect about the book – still I found another layer below … it seems the reader gets reversed roles which is a rare treat. I honestly cannot remember the last time I read something like this. I can almost hear you ask ? “what does she mean by reversed roles” – Well I will be honest with you – I already said to much revealing this little fact but on the other hand it’s to precious to not mention.
If you like a solid college love story in the sports department … and you are not afraid of mixing things up in the usually fixed roles in the emotional department – then this is your book. I truly enjoyed this story – but I am not sure I would want to read a story like that from just any author.
So it really this authors writing that sold it to me… a book by Isla Madden-Mills ? for me anytime…
4.9 Stars
Charisma and Blaze were ‘seeing’ each other for three weeks last year.
Then he broke up with her in front of everybody. No one knows why. And Charisma is so mad at him.
But he felt he had no other choice. She became too important too quickly for him, and he has to give 100% to football. He needs the NFL to come calling. He can’t afford a relationship now. Maybe he should’ve told her that – she wouldn’t be so mad at him now.
BUT things are looking up – they’re talking again. Having the same class, being friends with the same people. And they’re still mega attracted to each other. But the NFL is farther out of reach than ever, and Blaze has to work even harder to get noticed. And Charisma’s professional future is also not looking all to bright at the moment. So it should not be the right time to rekindle their thing… but love has other ideas!
I LOVED IT!
Such a fun and adorable and so very heartbreaking story!
Like with most books these days I have to say that it wasn’t anything new or über original. I’ve read a million sexy and funny & heartbreaking sports romances. BUT – I love those books!!!! I love football and college romances. And this one was so sweet and funny and sexy and moving … I loved Charisma & Blaze! And I still hated Archer. What’s his problem? Jeez!
I had to cry for poor little Blaze a few times. Ugh – his story is so heartbreaking. He just wants to make it big to show everyone back home that he’s worth it to be loved, to be seen. So sad.
I really enjoyed reading this book!
Also – the adorable Vampire Bill is back – I want one too … PLEASE!
I HATE YOU was such a funny & adorable & heartbreaking college football romance! I loved it! Run to your nearest amazon for your own BLAZE – this one is MINE!
I Hate You!
Gahhhhhhh! I couldn’t hate them less! Charisma and Blaze with their unforgettable names and their story of hate. Sigh! I’m in complete mushy, sappy romance lovers heaven. You see, this chick, is a friends/lovers to enemies deviant! It’s true. I devour them with a ruthless greed. I relish in them and gleefully pluck them from my TBR faster than other tropes (okay, except for stepbrother romances). I am an addict with no hopes or wants to reform.
I Hate You is my most recent hit of ecstasy. This 5 star read had everything. EVERYTHING. It has an immediate effect on the reader. Distrust, hate, and anger boil in your veins. Lust, heartbreak, and longing try to wage war with your brain. Between your brain, veins, and your heart…its a giant mess of emotional chaos.
I Hate You not only has a ridiculously filthy dream inspiringly hot cover that makes you continually need to wipe your drool but the man to back it up! That is BLAZE! Inside and out. It’s easy to fall for the outside but wow! When you get past the sex walking exterior, you will fall hopelessly in love with the “little boy that never had” inside. You will crumble like a house of cards for the hurt these two feed themselves at the expense of their own happiness.
I Hate You hurts in the best way possible. It is real. I felt Charisma. I wanted to prop Blaze up. It is impossible not to want everything for these two and more.
Fortunately, Ilsa Madden-Mills gave it to us. She gave us everything we wanted. Everything we never knew we needed. Everything we hoped for. She doesn’t hate us. I don’t hate this book. I have very strong feelings for it that would never be called hate. Sigh. Nope, no hate here. Just lots of PDA, heart eyes, and swoony sighs.
Oh and hopes for Dillon’s turn at falling…because when one happy ending hits we are always searching for the next one
Blaze and Charisma have stolen my heart.
I just finished reading I Hate You by Ilsa Madden Mills and I loved it!! You know how you read a book and you find what you considered the perfect book boyfriend? I compare all male characters with Declan a character from a book called Dirty English. I have to say Blaze has got to be now one of my favorite male characters written by Ilsa.
Blaze is very layered, he has an outward appearance he shows everyone else, funny, and outgoing, but underneath, he has insecurities like everyone else. Charisma is funny as hell with her acronyms, sassy comebacks, and charm. These two characters together are explosive, sexy, and funny. I have to say that this book made me laugh, cry, and laugh again. This is a great book!

This was a great story. It was sweet, funny and steamy, with romance and heartfelt moments and a little bit of drama. Blaze and Charisma (Charm) will have you rooting for them from the very beginning. I have to say that I love the nickname Charm. The chemistry between them was off the charts and they keep you wanting more of them and their faults. Their childhood has left an impact on how they deal with their feelings. One has always wanted to just belong and be loved, and the other grew up with a parent doing more than work outside of the house. Letting go and following their heart is harder than it should be but they have to open their hearts if they truly love each other. The ending of this story was sweet and left me with a smile on my face. This is a story you can read over and over. I will definitely check out other books from this author.
Ready to fall in love? No one asked me, so I thought I’d do everyone else the favor.
Mills consistently brings us swoon worthy men, and heroines with that something special, and this case is no different.
Charm and Blaze are an inferno, every time they get together, whether they’re hooking up or hating each other.
Their class time solidified things for me, in a very sweet way, and the masquerade set my kindle on FIRE!
Add in VB, plus some cameos from well loved characters, and my little heart is happy as a clam.
A million recommendations from this reader!

**3.5**
Three months ago Blaze ended things with Charisma at a party at her sorority house that she planned. Three months later and both of them swear that they have moved on but both of them are lying. Neither one has really moved on and forgotten about the other. Now that a new semester is starting they have a class together and can’t avoid each other – meaning they have to deal with all the feelings.
Blaze and Charisma both have issues that cause them to be leery of relationships. I wanted to wrap up Blaze in a giant fleece blanket and give him all the hugs. My heart broke for him so much but I loved that despite his issues he wanted to put himself out there because Charm was it for him. He had a true heart of gold. Charm . . . I just wasn’t feeling it. She kept referring to herself as a bad ass nerd but I never saw the nerd side of her at all. I was thoroughly confused by that. I enjoyed their story and it kept me engaged the entire time but I was irked by Charm too much to fully love it. But Blaze’s vulnerability and his heart make up for all of that.
