With her disarming, intimate, completely accessible voice, and dry sense of humor, Nora Ephron shares with us her ups and downs in I Feel Bad About My Neck, a candid, hilarious look at women who are getting older and dealing with the tribulations of maintenance, menopause, empty nests, and life itself.
Ephron chronicles her life as an obsessed cook, passionate city dweller, and hapless parent. … hapless parent. But mostly she speaks frankly and uproariously about life as a woman of a certain age. Utterly courageous, uproariously funny, and unexpectedly moving in its truth telling, I Feel Bad About My Neck is a scrumptious, irresistible treat of a book, full of truths, laugh out loud moments that will appeal to readers of all ages.

I think that Nora Ephron was a great writer. And how sad is it that I have to say “was”. She wrote with humor, honesty, compassion. She made me think, she made smile and she made me cry. If you read this and you like it try to find the documentary her son did about her and watch it. You will come away with more respect for her.
What a fantastic collection of autobiographical essays! I have loved all of Nora Ephron’s movies, but I’d had yet to read anything that she wrote. Now I’m a fan of that, too. Timely, honest, captivating, I read it in one day and smiled the whole time.
It’s a wry read for women of a certain age.
Nora Ephron is delightful in her collection of essays about life, love, and laughter, and I found myself chuckling, nodding in agreement, and sometimes dabbing at my eye. Most of us know her work through beloved romantic comedies such as “Sleepless in Seattle” and “When Harry Met Sally,” and her dry wit and sarcasm mixed with affection and …
Reading it, knowing that Ms Ephron had died in 2012, was bittersweet. It was lovely, funny, and spot on for all of us women of a certain age.
The quintessential humor been for aging women!!!!! I love all of Nora’s work!
I read this book when it first came out. Bought the Kindle edition to reread. Miss Nora. She was a very funny lady.
Nora Ephron can tell a funny story! This book is a collection of humorous essays about Ephron’s own life. I think it would be most funny for people over 60 and New Yorkers, but as a 50-something Midwesterner, I still found myself laughing out loud in places.
I quote this book often!
Amusing essays about aging. Recommend.
Lots of short essays, some of which are snort out loud funny.
A collection from the author of When Harry Met Sally, You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle. They’re all gems. It’s by my bedside table, you can dive in pretty much wherever and you won’t regret spending 20 minutes with Nora. A highly enjoyable book from an author who is missed.
I felt ‘the rapture’ after finishing I Feel Bad About My Neck by Nora Ephron. She writes with such warmth and humour and honesty the whole book just feels like you’re being given the most wonderful hug from your favourite cool aunt. She also writes so evocatively and brilliantly about New York it made me miss it more than I had in a long time. The …
A delight!
I cackled with laughter (and with tears) because her humor hit so many nerves. Clearly it resonates with a specific age group, but the humor transcends age.
She was such a talented writer
A really good book about the reality of getting older as a woman.
A bit dated but still funny
Fabulous summer read.
OMG, Nora Ephron will entertain all readers but especially women who were young in the 60s. Enjoy!
