The strong-willed, heroic wife of Alexander Hamilton tells her story in this historical novel by the bestselling author of The Secret Wife of Aaron Burr.

In the new capital, Eliza becomes an adored member of society, respected for her fierce devotion to Hamilton as well as her grace. Behind closed doors, she astutely manages their expanding household and assists her husband with his political writings. Yet some challenges are impossible to prepare for. Through scandal, betrayal, heartbreak, and tragedy, she is tested again and again. In the end, it will be Eliza’s strength that makes her not only Hamilton’s most crucial ally in life, but also his most loyal advocate after his death, determined to preserve his legacy while pursuing her own path through the nation they helped shape together.
“Scott expertly handles the complex history and complicated romance, moving the personal and political plots briskly. Readers will be captivated by the affecting portrait Scott has painted of Eliza as an American patriot who was witness and counsel to Alexander’s enduring legacy.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)
“Your next Hamilton obsession.” —Bustle

very well written and researched. Help me understand the movie with more clarity.
I was so glad I read this before I saw the movie “Hamilton” . I really loved this book. It was done very well & you became very involved with the characters. Interesting to see the personalities of our forefathers.
This is a wonderful, mostly historic accounting of Alexander Hamilton’s life told through his wife Eliza’s eyes.
I enjoyed reading the Eliza and Alexander story from a woman’s perspective. He was brilliant, she was brave and resilliant!
A bit of a slow read for me. The historical aspect was interesting, but the narrative was drug-out.
Wonderful character development and exceptional portrayal of the historical details!
It painted a vivid picture of the period and historic events.
I read this after seeing Hamilton on Disney+. It was a bit cloying but did shed light on the relationships that existed among the Founding Fathers. As this is fiction, I guess now I’m going to have to check out some nonfiction to see how true to life it was.
History told in a story.
Provided a timely view of major events including the revolution here amidst challenges of political viewpoints not yet fully developed, gender roles and perspectives. Educational expectations. The eerie similarity of the toll of scarlet fever and yellow fever— with Reactions not unlike of those we are experiencing with Covid-19 today.
The lessons of history repeating in all aspects as we did not learn from them. Deceptions, lies, racism, international distrust — still as problematic now as over 200 years ago.
The beauty of the family relationships was written well and welcome as a beautiful retreat from the surrounding chaos.
This is a great historical novel. I was not aware of some of the historical facts. Beautifully written. Loved it.
I just started reading this novel and I can’t put it down. I’m learning so much about Elizabeth Hamilton that I didn’t know before
I couldn’t get all the way through this one…I wish I liked it more.
This is a must-read for Hamilton fans hungry for more. What were Alexander Hamilton’s actions like for his wife, Eliza? This book imagines her point of view, including how she dealt with Hamilton’s infidelities, death of their child, and Hamilton’s death, all from the perspective of a woman from the 18th century. Eliza’s actions and reactions can be difficult for 21st century women to understand but the author does so imaginatively and realistically. Very enjoyable.
I enjoy reading about history’s strong, courageous women who helped shape our great country. This one will not disappoint.
History can be tremendously intriguing.
Even though the novel is based on people who actually lived, the characters in this book are still with me, two to three weeks after reading this book. I have read aditional books after, “I, Eliza Hamilton”.
There are many questions raised in my mind, that I believe a second reading will be required. This reason falls on my footsteps, not the author. Reading the book was so interesting, I could not put it down. Because of this, it seems I did not fully absorb all details.
My one disappointment, for me, was that there were some plot spoilers: a subjective opinion.
Excellent book!
It is a Novel, not a History Textbook!
“Try it, you may like it.”
I love this book. Since I’m a HUGE Hamilton fan, I got this book to learn more about Eliza. I was SHOOK after reading it. Read this book it is soooooo lit. You haven’t lived till you read this.
