Penelope Graham: Burn in hell, quarterback. The late night text is random but Penelope figures out exactly … Graham: Burn in hell, quarterback.
The late night text is random but Penelope figures out exactly who “Sexy Athlete” is. And why she shouldn’t take his wager.
Ryker Voss.
Football star.
Walks on water and God’s gift to women.
Just ask him.
His bet? He promises Penelope he’ll win her the heart of the guy she’s been crushing on. His plan–good old-fashioned jealousy. Once her crush sees her kissing Ryker, he’ll realize what he’s missing. Sounds legit, right? The only question is. . . why is Ryker being so nice to her?
Penelope Graham.
Virgin.
Lover of sparkly vampires and calculus.
His mortal enemy.
Penelope knows she shouldn’t trust a jock, but what’s a girl to do when she needs a date to Homecoming? And Ryker’s keeping a secret, another bet, one that could destroy Penelope’s heart forever.
Will the quarterback score the good girl or will his secrets mean everyone loses this game of love?
I love these boys!!
I haven’t read much college football books, but obviously I’m missing out. Pen and Ryker were adorable. Mostly Ryker…but I digress. Somehow Ilsa makes it ok for me that these boys were manwhores before but have fallen so deeply in love with their soul mates that nothing else matters. They are college football players after all. The relationship with Pen and her dad just had me tearing up more than once and I’m glad she was able to work through her issues, but the star here really is Ryker. Ikea writes amazing heroes and I’m so glad I found her books. There is angst for sure, but it isn’t anything that is unforgivable for me. Love this series!!
I listened to the audio, Stella Bloom and Mason Lloyd narrated. I have listened to several books narrated by Stella Bloom and she always does a fantastic job. This is the first Mason Lloyd narration for me, he did a great job with the story, but I felt his voice didn’t match the age of the character. Ryker Voss is supposed to be an early 20’s college student, the narrator did have a higher-pitched voice, but he definitely sounded older. It obviously wasn’t so distracting that I couldn’t get through the book. I enjoyed Penelope and Ryker’s story, it had great banter and several moments that had me laughing, and a few that had me cringing. Pirate Bill was always hilarious. This was a good addition to the series and I’m excited to get Blaze and Charm’s story.
RYKER AND PENELOPE ARE A PERFECT FIT!!!!
Again, as with I DARE YOU, I read I BET YOU straight through, too…
I loved that virginal, Twilight-obsessed, aspiring romance author, Penelope Graham, and former player and popular college star quarterback Ryker Voss, on paper, should not work…..I loved that they are proof that opposites attract, and I loved even more that they are perfect for each other…..This book made me laugh, and it put tears in my eyes…and every feeling in between.. I love this series….
This book was by far better than the previous one. This book has so many Rae emotions that I was very shocked at how I kept it together while reading it and managed to finish most of the book in two days since the fact that I read so slow I am mad that I didn’t read it sooner.
I am definitely going to be reading more by Ilsa Madden-Mills!
Another fantastic read from Ilsa! I’m giving this 5 out of 5 stars. This review is for an ARC, and reflects my honest opinion.
My first book by this author was I Dare You (which I absolutely loved), so when I saw the sign up for book two, I had to have the ARC. Reading this reminded me of how much I love her writing, and made me want to read her backlist books ASAP! The stories just pull you in from the start.
I remembered a little bit of Ryker from the first book, but not a lot. I think I liked him though, and after reading this book, I definitely liked him. Penelope was a great main character, and I felt a kinship with her on several levels. We could totally be friends in real life. I loved meeting some new characters, and also seeing some from the previous book.
Most of the book was super cute, and made me swoon. However, there was at least one part that made me tear up a little, which made me love the book even more. I really hope there are more books in this world coming in the future!
I really enjoyed this one. I loved Ryker and Penelope’s chemistry and banter. I was hooked from beginning to end and devoured this read. A great series and looking forward to the next one. I also enjoyed the narration too.
5 star Review of I Bet You (The Hook-Up #2) by Ilsa Madden-Mills
Having only a few books by this author I can’t believe I am so late to this party. Why have I not read more? Will definitely be looking at playing catch with this author.
This was a great read, with some drama, humour and heat and a hero and heroine who I really liked. I don’t usually read books in YA/NA but I am glad I took a chance and did I Bet You will keep you riveted from start to finish.
Sports romance with a hint of comedy has fast become one of my favourite genres and this is a great example.
I really like Ilsa Madden-Mills style of writing, her characters were easy to relate to, strong and engaging.
Ryder Voss is the gorgeous and oh so hot and confident quarterback for Waylon University and he has had his eye on Penelope Graham for a while.
I loved Penelope, she was sweet, quirky, a tad crazy and unique.
This book was well written and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Loved this story. Love the tough female character and the wacky and fun banter between the two main characters. Such a great story to read and an ending that you wouldn’t have expected!
This book follows on from I dare you, but could easily be a stand alone read. This is ryker’s and Penelope ‘s tale. I found it easy going and witty in places which moved the story along nicely. The strength of both characters along with the side characters made it an enjoyable read.
Just like the lion fell in love with the lamb, so the jock fell in love with a nerd.
Oh yes – comparison to Twilight is by all means intentional 😉
I Bet You is the New Adult at its best! Ilsa Madden-Mills is a master in this genre for me. This book is a college sports romance that’s just perfect! And the story described in it is heartwarming, funny and incredibly sexy.
Penelope Graham wants to become a writer so she’s focused on her studies. This girl is also extremely hardworking, so apart from studying she works two jobs. But despite the facade of a good girl she’s sassy, quirky and she’s not afraid to speak out loud what she thinks. This way she caught attention of the campus star and quarterback, Riker Voss – she wrote a not-so-favorable article about him, which initiated the constant banter between these two. Who is Ryker Voss? A football jock who hides a big heart and a weakness for the aforementioned girl. She’s completely different than the chicks he’s accustomed to. She’s not falling at his feet- on the contrary, she tries to avoid him. But if we add a small bet to this story, things will surely take an interesting turn…
I’m a big fan of the situations when the author as the main couple chooses the jock and the nerd. I just love it! There is something incredibly exciting in mixing two worlds in which the characters live. In addition in this story we have another barrier, which is Penelope’s dislike for athletes – her father is a perfect example of the fact that getting involved with one doesn’t lead to anything good. However, Ryker slowly managed to break her walls. The relationship, which first portrayed the main couple as enemies, turned into friendship. However, with an unspeakable amount of sexual tension and mutual attraction, it couldn’t stay just that for long. But is Penelope aware of what the bet’s all about?
Ilsa Madden-Mills never fails me. I Bet You can be easily added to the list of books I’ll reach for more than once. Ryker and Penelope’s story defines what New Adult really is and reading it was a real pleasure for me!
Great follow up to I Dare You. I loved this one as well.
I just adored everything about I Bet You. It is an enemies to friends to lovers book that had me entertained from start to finish. I think I loved the characters the most in this book. From quirky Penelope to jock Ryker to their cast of friends (even the one I hated) to the obnoxious bird Vampire Bill. The book was full of witty banter though I did get all teary at one point! It is a delicious slow burn romance but when it heats up… *fans self*
Hilarious, nonstop, and romantical novel. Truth is I initially put this book on my tbr solely because of the cover. It is hands down one of the hottest [contemporary] covers I’ve ever encountered–the side profile, his flexed arms, his mussed-up hair, his low-slung trousers…. Oh. My. But let it be known that judging a book by its cover has its merits because I found this lovely novel! Definitely recommend
I really enjoyed this read. I got about halfway through when I realised there must have been a book before it, but it wasn’t needed to be able to read this one.
I really enjoyed the way Penelope and Ryker interacted with each other, and I loved the other characters, too, except for Archer.
Now that I know there is a book one, I am going to dive into that one
A cute story. Short, but entertaining. A little cliche, but sometimes that’s good. Enjoyed it more then I thought I would.
This story was a real surprise for me. The story introduces us to two very charming sexy characters. Penelope who is a good girl, she’s sexy, beautiful, intelligent, hardworking the girl next door. She’s inexperienced with men and has some real trust issues given her childhood. Ryder Voss is the university’s starting quarterback and is charismatic, charming, sexy, good looking and always surrounded by Jersey Chasers. He doesn’t do relationships when he is challenged and accepts a bet to ask unsuspecting Penelope out for a date and then stand her up. This is their story which is an avalanche of circumstances that will leave you laughing, crying and loving every minute of there story . A five star read with sizzling chemistry.
Gorgeously written college romance with a lot of heart
It’s been a while since I have read a book by Ilsa Madden-Mills and I am happy to say that she still has an amazing way of writing YA. Her characters are so easy to relate to, love ’em or hate ’em they come alive on the pages ~ insert special shout out here to Vampire Bill! The fact that these are college students with real life problems makes it easy to get engrossed in the story. The growth you see in Penelope and Ryker gave me the warm fuzzies. I felt my heart melt a little when Penelope finally engaged with Margo and ultimately her Dad.
I didn’t get a chance to read I Dare You, but rest-assured I will be opening that one up very soon. I look forward to see what Ilsa has in store next.
I Bet You is a fun, sexy, slow burn story that had me hooked from the start. It was a quick, easy read and I had a hard time putting it down because it was so enjoyable! Ryker and Penelope’s love-hate relationship was highly entertaining. Their witty banter had me laughing throughout. Their love story is a slow burn and I loved how Madden-Mills built up their sexual chemistry. There’s much to love about this story and readers will fall in love with the characters very easily. With plenty of secrets and a virgin heroine, this dual POV story is one not to be missed.
Loved reading Penelope and Ryker story, proves you shouldn’t judge people by stereotypes. Loved the connection between them and their banter and enjoyed the side characters.
