An Amazon Charts bestseller.
What would it take to make you intervene?
When Ella Longfield overhears two attractive young men flirting with teenage girls on a train, she thinks nothing of it—until she realises they are fresh out of prison and her maternal instinct is put on high alert. But just as she’s decided to call for help, something stops her. The next day, she wakes up to the news that … she wakes up to the news that one of the girls—beautiful, green-eyed Anna Ballard—has disappeared.
A year later, Anna is still missing. Ella is wracked with guilt over what she failed to do, and she’s not the only one who can’t forget. Someone is sending her threatening letters—letters that make her fear for her life.
Then an anniversary appeal reveals that Anna’s friends and family might have something to hide. Anna’s best friend, Sarah, hasn’t been telling the whole truth about what really happened that night—and her parents have been keeping secrets of their own.
Someone knows where Anna is—and they’re not telling. But they are watching Ella.

I found this book on Amazon, and read a small preview. When the preview ended, I had gotten upset because I wanted more haha. I bought the book that day. I’m very pleased with this book. It has such an amazing storyline that keeps you guessing & instantly wanting to skip ahead to see what’s next but then you don’t cause you wanna be surprised hehe. Total page turner, leaves you wanting more! I would read this book again!
Don’t be turned off by the title. I read a lot of mystery novels, and this was so well-written, it was like a breath of fresh air compared to the sometimes-tired typical formula of a mystery. Every chapter changes the point of view, which keeps the reader knowing only one version of each piece of the puzzle. The story seems to skip after the main “incident,” but then goes back in time to fill in all the pieces little by little. You’ll never see the ending coming…or any of the other many twists. Very fast read! I would definitely recommend and will be looking for more from the author.
I highly recommend this book to all fans of psychological thrillers. It is impossible to put down once you start reading. The reveal of the murderer was a bit of a let down. But the questions raised by The Witness’s story such as when to intervene when you sense trouble for a stranger are compelling. I really loved this book!
An absolutely unputdownable book full of twists and turns.

This book was definitely an interesting read. I could not put it down. It was great that when I borrowed it from the Kindle Library it contained audio. Great for on the go. I would definitely recommend for a book group or for individual pleasure. I look forward to reading more books from this author.
I listened to the audio book and had a tough time pressing pause to get other things done! So many delicious twists and turns! Loved it!
Read it in two days. Really enjoyed it. Loved the way it all tied together in the end. Didn’t expect that
This was a quick and easy read that took me longer to read just because of my busy schedule. I liked the premise and found it fascinating to think through the idea of personal responsibility. Am I responsible to warn someone if I think their behavior or actions are going to lead them into trouble? Just how involved should a stranger get into the lives of others? I like books that make me think and ponder how I would respond, and this book definitely did that.
I also liked how the author kept the ending a surprise, too. This was pretty well-written, and I would be game to try other books by this author.
This was a great suspense novel and a well written book. After a fast-paced beginning, you catch your breath and the tension dissipates in the first half, but picks up in the second half. Short chapters as the watcher, whose mental state is fragile and introduces other complex characters with different story lines. I would recommend this to people who enjoy a character driven book rather than a solid thriller. This book delves more in the aftermath of an event rather than the crime itself.
I had a difficult time not finishing this in one day! A true thriller. A woman, Ella, is on the train to London. She begins eavesdropping on two young girls traveling to London alone for the first time. She’s alarmed when they befriend two recently released convicts on the train ride and her motherly instincts kick in and she has to force herself not to get involved. The next day as she’s watching the news she sees an alert that one of the young girls from the train, Anna, is missing and guilt fills her. The story follows Ella, her family, Anna’s family and friends and a private detectives stories as the mystery of Anna’s disappearance is solved and family secrets unfold. I enjoyed the different characters telling their stories giving you bits and pieces of information to make you think you finally knew who was behind the disappearance of Anna.
This one just grabbed me and dragged me into ! I expected some stalker thriller, but instead was introduced to mystery inside mysteries. A missing girl, and strange thoughts and reactions from all those tangentially connected to her disappearance. It made for psychological tension on “the witness” as well and grief, anger, and stranger thoughts from her loved ones and friends. Add in some normalcy with police investigations and I did not have a clue until the end. Just a delicious read.
I enjoyed this book
Wow!!! That was one crazy story. So many twists and turns and surprises, especially the last few chapters. I like stories that keep me guessing to the end and this book definitely did that. Good grief, what a cast of characters too!!!
If I could have given it 4.5stars, I would have. Driscoll is a good writer too, loved the way she told the story and laid out the plot. Will certainly check out some of her other stuff.
Truly a page-turner! Written with unusual depth for a fast-paced psychological thriller, where often the pace overruns character development. Really enjoyed this one.
A terrific psychological thriller in which nearly every major character has a secret. I enjoyed it immensely.
British Mystery – Fun to read!
I am stumped by the mixed reviews for this book because I thought it was excellent — well-written and suspenseful. The story involves the disappearance of a young woman, Anna, visiting London with a best friend. On the train a witness sees them chatting with two men that share that they are ex-cons. When Anna fails to return to her hotel room after going out dancing (the girls are to meet the men there), the ex-cons become immediate suspects. They disappear themselves, solidifying the scrutiny. But as the story unfolds, and the witness begins to receive notes from a “watcher,” the guilt is no longer certain. Is Anna still alive, or is she dead? Lives come together and apart as the anniversary of her disappearance comes and goes. Some of the reviews mention they don’t like the characters, or feel that much happens in the chapters. I found the characters relatively likable, and believable. The mystery unfolds with several twists that made me want to keep reading. Would recommend this book.
Such a good book. Very well written with great characters. Realistic. Wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out but it did not disappoint.
A nice written and compelling book. Has a lot of twists. You can’t put it down, once you started to read it. 100% recommended.
Very enjoyable
