She left me the week before our wedding.Said I wasn’t “husband material.”Actually, I’d have to agree with my ex on that matter…because I’m probably better off alone. But everything changed for me the day I met a mysterious beauty sketching on the beach.Giselle… beach fairy who danced away with the dawn.
I searched until I found her again.
And now I can’t let her go… because maybe I am husband material after all.

Gage was hurt and humiliated when his fiancé left him with a cruel Dear John letter. But when he meets Giselle, he realizes that he spent years with the wrong woman anyway. I love a story where the hero isn’t sure about love until he meets the right one! A great weekend read.
3.5 stars
Gage has been dumped by his fiancee a week before their wedding. She left him a hateful letter describing his faults- and just to add insult to injury, she ran off with one of Gage’s former friends who she had been having an affair with. Although her honesty stung, he can’t help but agree with her sentiment that he is destined to be alone.
Life can sometimes throw you a curve ball, and a beautiful French beach fairy named Giselle is an unexpected twist. The young, free spirited artist is exactly the sunny influence he didn’t know he needed, and she certainly didn’t expect to find a handsome surfer who would steal her heart on her impromptu trip to the States. With the clock ticking down on their time together, Gage realizes he may not be OK with being alone after all.
I normally love this author’s books, but Husband Material doesn’t really fall into my top 10 reads by Raine Miller. Perhaps it was the novella length but I didn’t really connect with these characters as strongly as I would have liked. All in all it was a good read to quickly pass some time.
Husband Material is a quick read that speaks of spontaneity and passion and ultimately, following your heart.
Both characters have baggage.
Gage is the man who was going to settle and was jilted by his biotch of a fiancée via a Dear John letter. For a man so closed off, that hit was a surefire way to prove he is just not husband material. He’s given her his secrets but not his heart.
Giselle is a free spirit, but she hasn’t always been and her past is awaiting her. She’s giving him her heart but withholding her secrets.
There’s a HEA for these two slightly damaged souls. Telling the truth, recognizing love and giving it freely is healing. I enjoyed this sweet romance.
This was an interesting a fairly short story about a man who was dumped a week before his wedding. Gage Danielson was shocked but not really heartbroken when his fiancee broke off their engagement a week before their wedding and ran off with one of his friends.
Gage goes surfing and meets an enchanting woman named Giselle. Giselle is an artist and also French. Gage has an instant attraction to her and she feels the same. Their one night stand turns into more. However, when Giselle’s visa expires she must return to France. Gage thought that it was for the best since he couldn’t admit his feelings. Once he comes to his senses, he is on a mission to find her.
This is such a sweet love story, romantic and eye opening! Great characters and some mention of other characters from Ms. Miller’s other books!
Let me first say how much I love this author and anything the pens. Her words have melodic flow and she always sets off the music with her prose.
Two strangers, once chance meeting and a lifetime of happiness. Who better to tell me this story the incomparable, Raine Miller.
Love encompasses so much more than just words. It is a feeling, an action and having the right person that can bring the best out in you. You oft times find it when you are not looking. That was a lesson Gage had not learned, until he met Gisselle. Gage was reeling from a shock of pain, and Gisselle was running from a life of pain.
Two strangers, once chance meeting and a lifetime of happiness always totals 5 stars, but then Raine always deserves 5 stars.
I loved this fun easy to read book. I want to visit the beach now and maybe fund my true love. Thank you Raine Miller for such a fun in the sun romance.
This was a fun quick read. It was fast paced, sexy, with lots of fun banter between Gage and Giselle. Which gave it a light feel. Even though there were some heavy moments. Who says you can’t fall in love at first site.
This was a great summer beach read!!
4.5 Stars!
I’ve seen several people say that this is the perfect summer read, and I agree with them 100%. Raine brings us the engaging, sexy story of Gage Danielson, whose fiancé dumps him via a not so nice letter she leaves behind for him. Is he upset about it? Yeah… Is he devastated over it? Nah… Truth be told, it sounds to me like he dodged a HUGE bullet when she runs off with one of his supposed friends.
When Gage sees Giselle sitting on the beach one day, drawing, he feels a strong connection with her. She’s beautiful, and French, and she’s looking at him so intensely…he doesn’t really know what to do with himself.
Raine does a masterful job of fitting a lot of content into this novella. I loved seeing Gage and Giselle together, the way he was so gullible and fell for all of her teasing. The comfortable feeling they had with each other even though they really knew nothing about the other. And especially the change that Gage went through from thinking he wasn’t husband material at all, to desperately wanting to spend his life with Giselle. The sexy times were oh so sexy! Mama Raine knows how to write a sex scene!
As a die hard fan of her books, I absolutely loved finding all of the Easter Eggs she hid throughout this story. Now I am anxious to see what becomes of those little tidbits! More books!!
Fans of Raine are going to love this novella, and if you haven’t read her yet, this is a perfect story to get you started. I’m off to explore the other stories in the Left at the Altar series!
Read: 7/5/19
Husband Material by Raine Miller was the third book in the Left at the Altar series. The series are a set of stand-alone novellas by six New York Times Best Selling Authors. It was my first book by Miller.
Gage Danielson was an architect and co-owned a Gin Distillery. He had just been dumped by his fiancé when she wrote him a scathing letter about all his faults and her reasons for dumping his uncaring ass. Unfortunately, he agreed, everything she said about him was true.
Giselle Fleury was newly living in Charleston, SC. She was French and it was obvious from the moment that she met Gage on the beach that she was hiding secrets.
Miller took us quickly through their developing attraction and getting to know each other. It was the typical, sparks fly, male pursued, female declined each pursuit but eventually caved.
Overall, it was a quick read with a mixture of sweet and sexy. This was my first book in the series but I plan to explore more.
I lived through the characters as they froliced on the beach. My couch ridden self.
Loved their banter, she picking on him.
Nice easy, quick read. Loved seeing familiar names. Can’t wait for more.
When Cassidy leaves Gage a break up letter, she’s not too kind with her words. Even going as far as telling him one of his good friends is also her good friend, the kind you have naked sleepovers with. The worst part is, Gage wasn’t even that upset about it. Deep down he knew she wasn’t the one. He actually started thinking he was meant to be alone and he wasn’t too happy about that. Then he meets an alluring french beach fairy named Giselle. Having fun was the only thing he thought about with her. He slowly started caring more about her but when she tells him she must go back home he let’s her go. No fully realizing how important she was to him until she was gone.
Love is…just you
I easily fell into this story. Gage believes he is not husband material after his fiancé dumps him. Let’s not forget that she gave up on the relationship before they had a chance to work it out. But while Gage is nursing his wounds (not really) he meets a beach fairy. Giselle is stunning and exotic. She can help him forget what’s her name and all the things she said to him. But does Gage realize that Giselle is not like anyone he has met before? Grab this easy going, laid back, full of hot chemistry story today.
Let’s just say that Gage received the worst Dear John letter to mankind. Not only is Gage shocked about his Dear John letter he also knows he never lover her. As he moves on he does one of his favorite things to do, surf. While surfing feels this pull to this beauty on the beach. As he approaches the beach he sees she is drawing and has this pull to keep talking to her.
I love this sexy sweet quick read and how one man can feel a connection to something so strong that he will do anything to keep her.

Loved it!
A quick fun, sweet & sexy read that easily can be read in one sitting.
Gage & Giselle story was a perfectly romantic story of falling in love quickly when you least expect to.
Loved the chemistry, instant connection and the journey of Gage finding himself after his failed engagement.
Giselle was just the perfect woman to crash into Gage and show him that he can love again & be husband material.
Get ready to crash into a wonderful romance with this book.
5 Cherries Popped!
I adored this story!!! It’s a fantastic summer beach read. This drama free, fast-paced, insta-love romance was the perfect addition to my read shelf.
Gage is jilted at the alter in the most humiliating way by his fiancé, he should be devastated, right? He’s not. His ex was correct, he isn’t husband material. He has no doubt about that.
Until he notices a perfect little French beach fairy while surfing. He’s instantly drawn to the sassy foreigner. And the feeling is definitely mutual. The pair are quickly swept up into a sensual, yet comfortable love affair.
I’m a sucker for great banter and Gage and Giselle had some fantastic banter. His gullibility when it came to her teasing him was simply adorable!
If you’re looking for a lighthearted, sensual read, this is the book for you. I highly recommend it!
When Gages fiancee leaves him a week before the wedding with a note that says hes just not husband material. Gage thinks he might believe her until he meets Giselle. To him shes a breath of fresh air. What ensures is a great story and how maybe Gage just might be husband material
Cinq étoiles françaises! Une lecture parfait pour l’été!
If any could write sweet and pretty romances is a talented lady called Raine Miller, her writing is not only elegant but sweet and oh so lovely! I’ve never hesitated to recommend her books because they worth its weight in gold. And dear Lord she always delivers refreshing romances with too much passion and sensuality.
Husband Material is a beautiful romance that smells like summer and sea. It is warm like sunlight and it warmed my heart like the sun warms the earth. The story in this novella tastes like a dream come true for a man unfit for love until he bumped into a French fairy at the beach. The plot is light-hearted, sweet, fun and well developed. Have I mentioned that this is also an emotional voyage of discovery? The story is pretty and exquisite and it leaves you wanting more and more.
The chemistry between Cage and Giselle is intense and new for both of them. Cage who was catalogued as “not husband material” by his ex- fiancée was left with a weird feeling of being unfit for love. Even though he does not care that love is not for him, it’s sad to see him. We all deserve love. Fortunately this will change thanks to an ange française. Giselle will turn upside down his world in a deep way. In some way they will save each other from their past experiences. Things happen quickly. Their story started like a playful affair and turned into something deep and beautiful. And the loveless knight will open up to his fée française, the only woman who has enchanted his slippery heart.
From the beginning there was a strong connection that pulled Cage to Giselle. There will be a tug inside their hearts that will make them believe in love, something that was denied for both of them. Gage quickly becomes husband material. Cage and Giselle’s journey is a story of avoidance, fate and realization. Soyez fidèle à vous-même, suivez votre cœur.
Without hesitation I recommend you this novella that will captivate you with a histoire douce, sexy AF alpha man and sweet heroine.
A short sweet read about finding love. When Gage is left by his fiancee’ right before their wedding he moves on with the idea that maybe she was right, that he just isn’t husband material. Spending his days buried in work his only escape catching some waves. Little did he know that a chance encounter on the beach could turn his world upside down.
I enjoyed watching Gage and an Giselle tease each other while embracing their relationship. With no spoken commitment they spend their time together discovering each other. When Giselle abruptly ends things Gage lets her go. I was sad to see them part and was hoping that Gage would come to his senses and make things right.
The connection between Gage and Gi was genuine and I enjoyed the ease and whirlwind nature of their relationship. If you are looking for a quick, enjoyable read grab yourself a copy of Husband Material. Seems to me that we may be getting a bit more of some of these characters.
I recieved an arc in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. Husband Material is about a man who was left mere days before the wedding by a letter. Gage thought he could never fall in love with anyone much less want to get married. Giselle is running away from something when she meets Gage. Giselle is a breath of fresh air and what was supposed to be a summer fling turns out to be the real deal. Giselle gets Gage to open up and open his heart up to her without even realizing it. This is a perfect summer read, and I highly recommend it.
Who knew a broken engagement and a subsequent break-up would come down to dirty socks?!?!
But, of course, it’s not just the inability of Gage Danielson to put his dirty clothes in the hamper…it’s more of not being with the right person…not finding that one person who would love him regardless of his habits or miscommunication and that he could love back in the way that matters most.
The way that Gage’s ex dumps him is representative of the selfish woman she appears to be, and even though her final remarks leave Gage questioning who he is and what he wants, her comments say more about who she is and what she needs to do in order to justify her actions.
Fate may be fickle but it seems to lead Gage to the woman who is meant to be his, and even though he doesn’t know a lot about his ‘French beach fairy’ – a woman who seems to understand and see him in ways that no one else ever has – the fact that he can’t stop thinking about her and shares a connection worth pursuing is all the incentive he needs to find the woman who could make him ‘husband material.’
A chance meeting leads Gage on journey of self-discovery and love and despite the obstacles that exist, as long as there’s a chance that there’s a future with his mysterious French beauty, he’ll do whatever it takes and go wherever is necessary to find everything he never knew he wanted and perhaps even needed.
Even though Raine Miller’s Left At The Altar novella is a quick read, it is filled with emotion and heart, and it confirms that any man can be ‘husband material’ as long as he finds the woman who accepts him and all of his faults.
