What’s a goddess to do?After being lost at sea and taken prisoner by yet another denizen of the Titan realm, Quinn finds herself cold, wet, miserable, and very much alone. Until a familiar and unexpected face steps back into her life to remind her who she is—and has always—been: a fighter. Following this revelation, Quinn can only acknowledge that some journeys require circuitous routes, even if … circuitous routes, even if that means attaining her freedom and rushing—not to the rescue of her besieged allies—but to the mythical island of Aeaea, home to the infamous witch, Circe, where Quinn will be confronted with cryptic visions of the present and a brutal choice: to sacrifice everything she is on the altar of what she could become, or to continue stumbling around in the dark.
No matter her decision, Quinn knows she must see order restored to the Eighth Sea if she hopes to save her friends and allies. But at what price? The answer to that could cost Quinn her very humanity and will reveal stark truths about her role in the war to come. A war her father predicted and, apparently, prepared for. A war which has already begun to claim the lives of those she cares about and will likely claim many more before all is said and done.
But, before she can worry about any of that, Quinn must go to battle against her old friend and nemesis, rescue her besieged friends, and honor her end of a lopsided bargain—a task which will pit Quinn against her wildest nightmares and her darkest dreams with just one person at her side…a certain mouthy wizard from St. Louis—Nate Temple.
The waters get even murkier as Quinn gets caught in a current that draws her closer and closer to the secrets which surround Atlantis, to the gates of the Underworld and the lost souls which lie beyond, and to the mysterious figure of her father, a wizard so powerful he defied time itself.
Some people like to say that when it rains, it pours. But then they must never have met Quinn MacKenna…because in her case it’s always hurricane season.

The one thing we can always count on from Quinn is confusion. Confusion over what she’s doing, confusion as to who she’s doing it with, and mostly, confusion as to why she’s doing…anything she does. She’s a character like no other. Feisty as all get-out, obnoxious on cue, tender-hearted but not where anyone can see, and about as foul mouthed as a woman can be and still be considered female. So, what’s to love about her? Well, she’s feisty, obnoxious, tender-hearted and foul mouthed, of course. And she spared us none of this in this current volume of her exploits.
There has been so much going on with her in the past 8 volumes that coming into book 9, it was almost too confusing to read. But then I got past the first chapter, and remembered exactly where she was. Drowning. It was where she came out that made all the rest start to come together. The worlds she has passed through are all in trouble in one way or another, but mostly from Ryan, or should I say the Frozen One, and Frankenstein. She’s been chasing that duo for awhile now, and it seems that will continue. In the meantime, she takes a detour to meet yet another piece of her past: Circe. And it’s on to the land of the Titans, where yet more answers are hiding, just waiting for her poor mind to piece together. Circe does seem to have some of the answers she needs, so maybe the trip into the depths of the Eighth Sea was worthwhile.
Between finding out her own heritage, finding out where Ryan (The Frozen One) went and why, finding out what happened to The Jolly Roger and her crew, what happened to the Giants called the Laestrygonians (say that name 3 times fast!) on the island she just left, finding out what Circe wants from her, how Nate figures into it all, and what exactly she is expected to do about any of it, she’s bound to feel just a bit unhinged. Yet, we all know Quinn, and she’s at her best when unhinged. So off she goes, from one bizarre place to the next, discovering one bizarre being after another, and learning…well, I’m not entirely sure what she learned, but whatever it was, it was fascinating! And through it all, as confused as we may feel, there’s that inevitable string that pulls it all together into a nice neat knot. Now, don’t get me wrong. It’s not a nice knot. It’s a neat knot, and it’s nice and neat, but it is by no means a nice knot.
Well, you’ll understand when you get there. And rest assured, it’s the kind of journey we have come to expect from Cameron and Shayne. The kind of journey that means a day or two to get your mind back on track. Coming back down to plain old Earth is jarring to say the least.
I won’t say where we end up. I won’t even say how we got there. That’s for you to discover on your own. What I will say is the entire story is done in the inimitable fashion of Cameron O’Connell with obvious prompts from Shayne Silvers. It is definitely a story from the Templeverse we’ve all come to know, yet it also is it’s own world of insanity where the Templeverse seems to visit, but never attempts to stay. Quinn has her own set of problems that only sometimes include Nate and crew. And while Nate does play a cameo part in Quinn’s latest collection of adventures, this is definitely all Quinn and her discovery of who she is, and what she should do with that knowledge.
We are left knowing there is plenty more to come from Quinn, and are definitely willing to wait since the next chapter in Quinn’s life sounds like it’s really getting “deep”. And now that I’ve had some questions answered, albeit in the most roundabout way possible, I’m thoroughly prepared for the next time Quinn wants to mess with my mind. Or am I?
Ahhh, Cameron, what’s to say except Exceptionally Well Done! I haven’t felt like that since…well, since the 60’s! I loved the feeling then, and I love the feeling now. Thanks so much for the “trip”! Yep, Exceptionally Well Done! You, too, Shayne! Don’t think we didn’t see your special brand of crazy in there as well! Between the two of you, Quinn has come to life so completely that the two of us hold conversations regularly…in my head!
I received this as an ARC copy, and am giving a review in my own words and of my own volition. As always.
Shayne Silvers may have his faults as an author, but he is prolific and the action does not stop in any of his stories. I cannot imagine the daunting task of starting the Templeverse books this far in, My understanding is that Silvers helps plot these books, but Cameron does the bulk of the heavy lifting when it comes to putting the words on paper. If that’s the case, he does a good job of capturing Silver’s style and tone, but if you like Urban Fantasy that never gives the characters or the reader a chance to sit down and catch their breath, this is definitely the universe for you.
BEST QUINN STORY YET!!! I’m super impressed by how far Cameron stepped up his game in this book! It has everything and more and the cherry on top is a mind blowing dream world starring Nate and Quinn! I don’t want to reveal too much, so just trust me and go buy this book right now and be sure to carve out about 5 hours because you won’t want to stop once you start….it’s that good folks! Well done boys, well done!!
So I have loved the Templeverse books, however the last three (that includes this one) have not been quite what I had hoped for. As with both Nate and Callie’s last books there was a whole heap of rambling, flash backs and generally confusing dialogue.
That isn’t to say it’s a bad book but I miss the humour and the easy going story that we initially enjoyed with the earlier books. Whilst I appreciate that somehow I think our three MCs are going to have to unite to stop Armageddon, I just feel we need to get back on track.
Masters Silvers and O’Connell have given us a wonder filled adventure with Hurricane. As has been previously stated in other reviews, this is not the place to start your journey with Quinn. This book is filled with background and foreshadowing. It brings many, many more questions and left me wanting more asafp. I’m convinced that Quinn books are all titled with drinks because the reader is going to want a strong one to deal with being left hanging over a precipice, wondering when or if that kindly wizard from St. Louis is going to come along and lend a hand. Grab your copy of Hurricane, pour yourself a stiff one and hang on for dear life! You won’t regret it .
It’s prolific authors like Shayne Silvers and their totally addictive books that make me rejoice that Kindle Unlimited exists to keep me out of the poorhouse. The addictive nature of this author’s work is certainly clear in The Phantom Queen Diaries, by Silvers and Cameron O’Connell, yet another perfect addition to the already fantastic Temple Verse collection that I find myself compulsively reading. Hurricane (Phantom Queen Book 9) is a totally exciting and perfectly executed addition to this series. Read the publisher’s blurb to get a perfectly good non-spoiler of the complex plot for this book and just know that while Quinn has a lot facing her, and the odds don’t look great, one thing is pretty much guaranteed: that readers will have a blast. Highly recommended is an understatement.
Hurricane is such a whirlwind of a book! It was such a great adventure and addictive as ever! I loved it and can’t wait for what happens next! It’s an absolute must read! I am voluntarily leaving my honest review after reading this arc, but I loved it so much I purchased my own copy.
One thing I always know when I start a book by one of these authors is that I need to buckle up because it’ll be one revelation after another, an action-packed ride, and great fun until the very end where you’ll throw the book or e-reader at the wall because it’s a cliffhanger. LOL! This one is full of secrets Quinn finds out about herself and a couple rescues I’m a little nervous about because the authors like to fool us. But, anyway, this was a great book like always, and I can’t wait to see what’s going to come next. Get this book, sit down, hold on, and enjoy the ride! Highly recommend! I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Hurricane Is So Good, It Blew Me Away!!!
Shayne Silvers & Cameron O’Connell Are The Real Deal! 4.8
A phenomenal read from start to finish.
These books always deliver a fresh & exciting new perspective & story with the added bonus of new exciting characters as well as our regular crew, you never know who’ll pop up next, apart from our sultry heroine of Snark, Sass who takes no Sh#t, from anyone, the one & only Ms Quinn MacKenna.
I still don’t know enough about this characters history as I’ve only read this & the previous book Sea Breeze but am loving it!!!
But what makes this book so special, it crosses over all 3 series of the Templeverse bringing in a look at all 3 main characters Nate, Callie & Quinn & shaking things up, chock a block full of emotions.
It’s like riding the wave of your life, getting wiped out, twisting & turning under the waves not knowing which way is forward, backwards up or down!
These are the minds of the two crazily creative authors that pen this series, Shock & Awe!
I felt like a cross between Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz who was swept up in a tornado (well let’s say ‘Hurricane’ for these purposes) & the girl from ‘Honey I Shrunk the Kids’ and with the help of my Fairy Godmother I was deposited with a rope lifeline that runs from one author’s right ear, though to the other authors left ear leaving me smack bang in the warped & wonderful intricate workings of wheels & cogs spinning & turning in two incredibly talented & gifted crazy authors minds! My lifeline tunneling from one authors mind to the other’s with access via their ears.
Thank you Fairy Godmother for cleaning out their ears or else I’d be as stuck as fly in a spider’s web in their sticky waxy build up & at that size and ewh imagine the smell! Yikes!
Welcome to the mad minds of two evil & creative genius’ of the Phantom Queen Diaries & Templeverse all!
These boys write the most incredible ‘Characters’ & their ‘Character Development’ is paramount. The very heart of their stories. For without such a fabulous cast as the crew in Hurricane or other novels to relate too there’s nothing to encourage you & keep you coming back for more. If you’re not attached too these characters and they don’t envoke feelings of liking, loving, rooting for or despising, them there really isn’t much of a story no matter how good the writer is.
These are the type of characters you just can’t stop thinking about! Even once the book is finished. The type you’d want as family & friends. They always have your back & are there for you no matter the situation danger or stakes.
Shayne & Cameron are gifted authors graced with a rare and unique talents. They seem to have it in spades in multi-facets of disciplines in writing.
Where these boys standing at the head of the line when the 9 Muses of Greek Mythology, chose to bestow gifts to Inspire upcoming artists and imbued them with gifts or is this all self learnt natural talents?
Either way is it any wonder these writers are so successful & loved by many thousands all around the world?
This book finally sees Quinn taken to the one person, a Titan Witch whom if she’s willing to help, can finally provide Quinn with some answers. The answers she’s been seeking most of her life.
Finding answers to the question ‘Who and What’ Quinn MacKenna truly is?
The answers and ensuing tests will take her an epic trial of tribulations, both in success & failure. A journey of self discovery like no other & the results will blow your mind!
Though Quinn is far from the only character. Actually I highlighted 97 names of people both appearing in this book or were mere mentions from her life & previous escapes.
These characters could make the story alone, but these authors do not rely solely on their characters for success.
They make sure every aspect involved in phenomenal storytelling is included and hold themselves to the highest of standards which their fan base expect & hold them to too.
We’ve recieved such uniquely diverse quality of drama, high octane action that’ll have you flying by the seat of your pants & emotionally charged scenes from our favourite characters that’ll have you laughing out loud one moments & tears spilling the next with a humongous lump in your throat.
These fabulously devised characters, creatures, critters, supers, historical figures and their stories are what keep us coming back for more everytime and after 30+ books in the Templeverse, each book is as successful as the last, still fresh as a daisy, more often than not taking the author’s to the #1 spot on the Amazon charts in their category.
Seriously who wouldn’t love to have a magical blocking arms dealer, a Maker, a Wizard, Gods & Goddesses of Mount Olympus, Titans, Historically figures both real & of Literary, the world’s most successful hacker, a Tree of Knowledge, a Faerie hound, The Face That Launched a 1000 ships, The Queen of the Laestrygonians Giants & Obelius her
greatest warrior as a friend and a cast worthy of any major blockbuster Marvel film as your starting place & backbone of your story?
And the world building is so stunningly detailed and descriptive, you feel as if your actually there witnessing first hand with your own eyes, as if your standing right alongside Quinn MacKenna as she takes the wheel of the Jolly Roger in a fog so thick you can not see your own hand a foot in front of your face?
So whichever world, dimension, universe or location Quinn & Co are battling in or have been magically transported too, its so easily laid out before you with the authors words, you barely need your imagination at all.
It’s almost as if you are participating in a motion movie, you feel at one with these characters, as if whatever is occurring to them is happening to you too, its a movie of the mind & senses and you need to sit down, shut up strap in, hold on to your hat and go along for the ride of your life!
Whether you’re a passenger along for the ride, or your hitching a ride within the character’s shoes depends upon how easily you become engrossed in the story. With the right author, I slip into th skin of any character I wish and with Shayne & Cameron at the helm, its simple to do.
Considering I’ve only read Sea Breeze (Book 8) and now Hurricane (book 9) in The Phantom Queen Diaries, I’ve got a say I’m Completely Bloody Blown Away!!!
Well done fellas, awesome book & the great thing about it is I basically understood most of it, including references to many characters, but there are so many more whom I have no idea who they are or their relationship to Quinn or Nate, or anyone else,
but it didn’t seem to matter all that much.
I know I’ll eventuall catch up on all the previous books / characters / relationships & interactions, once I read all 3 interacting series in chronological order & will re-read these books so all those missing relationship & details become crystal clear.
And while I know several of the characters, there were 97 of them I recorded (highlighted to help me when I re-read this book in the Templeverse Chronological order) that were part of the story such as Quinn or only a mention of a name like Christoff’s Children.
As much as I loved this book, I did find it a tad confusing at times with the dialogue between Quinn & Nate, when the narration would change from Quinn’s Irish accent to the normal narration in english when referring to Quinn rather than Nate, but other than that I loved it.
I RATE HURRICANE 4.9 OUT OF 5
I highly recommend this book, series & both authors. Run out & buy their books today, you won’t regret it!
I recieved an ARC Copy of this book from the author’s and this is my fair, honest and impartial review as always.

(Bye Love From The Crazy Australian BookWorm)!
Hurricane is absolutely riveting. Grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. Structured chaos, or at least the chaos of Quinn’s life structured into a story to be devoured relentlessly. Get your errands/chores done before release, because this book demands to be read in a singular sitting.
This book has a lot of action going on and keeps you turning page after page to read what happens next! Quinn’s adventure continues, in the land of the Titans, on the 8th sea. Jack frost and his freaky bud are causing a lot of trouble, freezing the realm and starting a war, and the Titans want him gone. Quinn needs to find her inner goddess, save the giants, confront Jack Frost (you’ll never guess who’s his evil accomplice is,) save the lives of her crew and honor an agreement. Will she succeed? I loved this book and boy, what an ending! Quinn’s path isn’t easy, but the journey she goes on is unbelievable! This book is action-packed, with giants, danger, zombies, magic, Jack Frost, Titan gods and goddesses, a war, a witch, a crew, memories, Nate Temple, humor and great twists and turns.
Forget Harley Quinn. Fun Quinn is a blast!
Co-authors Cameron O’Connell and Shayne Silvers deliver their wildest ride yet!
From the beginning of the series, Quinn has been buffeted and bombarded with a plethora of powers that have appeared only to vanish just as suddenly. She has been betrayed by allies, made enemies indispensable, learned of lands and realms only imagined, found and lost so many she cares about, and even felt the lightest of Cupid’s touches. But none of it ever stays the same. None of it ever stabilized. How could it? Neither Quinn nor any that she knew, know who, or even what, Quinn might be. In Hurricane, Quinn must go on a journey that might cost her everything, but if she doesn’t go, she is certain to lose all she holds dear. With the unlikeliest of allies at her side for this fantastical journey that makes Alice’s trip to Wonderland look like a Tuesday run to the grocery store, Quinn will find all those answers and more. The question becomes whether she can live with what those answers mean. She will face all of her past choices down, all her failures, all of her tests, trials and tribulations, and only then will she have a path forward. With lives on the line, Quinn tackles the journey in her usual brash style, but this time, she might be jumping into a pool that has no bottom. Hang on tight—Odysseus has nothing on Quinn’s journey!
And so the saga continues.
Yet again this book is full of the expected, yet unexpected, twists and turns these authors excel at.
Whilst tying up a few loose ends Quinn has to look inwards to face her true self
Unfortunately, discovering her true heritage does not prepare her for the battle yet to come.
Hurricane is Book 9 in this gripping series and is still as exciting, if not more so, than the first and, once you start you won’t be able to put it down.
Another book, another favourite!
Best entry for Quinn so far. Of course, I may be biased, because this one features Nate! I give fair warning: it’s another cliffhanger. Fortunately, Cameron O’Connell and Shayne Silvers’ rapid publishing cycle keep up from having to wait too long for another entry in one of the three series.
Time to evacuate – and take the book with you – a Typhon is coming ;-). A trippy, trippy ride.
