This is the first book from the ‘Grimm Academy’ series I’ve read and was really quite delighted. In case you’re like me and didn’t know the premise, I’ll make it brief. Grimm Academy is where fairy tale characters go to escape their foretold fate or prophecy. In this case, Red’s prophecy would be the original telling of the story. Red wants more than that though. She wants to become a Huntsman, which isn’t common for a woman. This is no fainting female. Nope. She is one determined, headstrong woman and it runs in the family. This was such a refreshing retelling of Red Riding Hood’s story and am happy to recommend it.
A fun and adventurous retelling of Red. There may not be wolves in this version but there is definitely an adventure as Red joins the Grimm Academy to become a huntsmen. The story even has the visit to grandma’s house. This Red is independent and wants nothing to do with going to balls and wearing dresses. She’s into protecting others and is quite good with a bow. The romance is sweet and loving. Definitely want to read more from the series.
I saw the cover and then I read the premise and I was hooked long before the book came out. Laura Greenwood creates a feisty “Red Riding Hood” who is determined, strong, and patient. Greenwood has once again crafted a fairy-tale world that I would let my niece read.
Greenwood has turned the original fairy-tale on its head and presents us with a heroine that can stand on her own. I do not want to give too much away as this is a novella, but Greenwood has added some ingenuity that I really like in this story.
Don’t fear going into the woods as the Huntsmen and Hoods are taking care of business. Add this fairy-tale retelling to your library.
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
Great Spin on Classic Tale
I have read a lot of books by this author, and I love her takes on classic fairy tales (like this one is), her RH stories, and the ones that delve into the mythology and pantheons of different cultures. This one was just as enjoyable as her others. I liked this spin on Little Red Riding Hood. She is a determined, strong young lady fighting for the place in the world that she so desires and has been working toward her entire life. Some of that she learned from her grandmother, who’s an excellent secondary character. I most enjoyed her interactions with Kit, watching their relationship grow from an easy, teasing friendship to something more in a natural and realistic way. Not easy to pull off in a novella! The only thing that bothered me is that the author employed an annoying trend that I’ve seen in fiction lately. I don’t think comma splices have a place in any published work, but so many authors lately are using them in dialogue for some unknown reason. It annoyed me every time I saw it in this book. Other than that, though, I thought the story and characters were a delight. If comma splices don’t offend your inner grammar nerd, you will undoubtedly enjoy this empowering take on the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Red has been training to become a huntsman, but will she become the hunted instead?
This is the third book in this series which combines classic fairy tales with an academy setting. It is not necessary to have read the first book in order to enjoy this one.
The story is well written and easy to read, and it is fun to watch characters that are familiar tell entirely new stories. The setting and characters are nicely done and we get a bit more depth to the setting as the series progresses. I have always liked the Red Riding Hood story and character, so this story is particularly enjoyable to me. I like our new tough and capable Red, but will it be enough to alter her fate? Guess you will have to read to find out.
Highly recommended

This is a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. As the other books in the series, Red is at Grimm Academy because there is a prophecy about her that could lead to her death. She just wants to become a Huntsman even though normally only men can be. Can she pass the test to become a Huntsman and avoid her prophesied fate? This story is a well written and easy read. I really enjoyed it and had a lot of fun reading it! I liked Red and Kit and I’m definitely going to keep reading this series!

This time we follow Red’s story of trying to not follow her prophecy. I love how this story puts her as a huntsman in training, not as the weak girl shown in many versions of the tale. Peter he ex makes for an interesting villain and with her grandma being sick, can she still avoid her prophecy or will it come to fruition?

This is book three of the Grimm Academy series and retells the story of Little Red Riding Hood, but with a twist. Aredenne (Red) is a scholarship student at the Grimm Academy and comes from a poor background. She is there because she has a prophecy and doesn’t know when or if it will come true, or if she will be able to avoid it altogether. Her only wish has been to become a Huntsman, something no other female has done. The Huntsmen are based just outside the castle where the Grimm Academy lies and she goes there to approach the Head Huntsman and to ask to be allowed the chance to train amongst them to become a Huntsman herself.
She is met at the edge of the camp by a tall stranger, in the red cape of the Huntsmen, and lead to their headman. He asks her name, but doesn’t give his own. She is told to come back the next day for testing, but has no idea what that may involve. The only downside is an ex-suitor called Peter, from her home village, who is still as obnoxious now as he was then. He knew that it had always been her dream to be a Huntsman, never his. So why he has turned up here, is unclear! He apparently, isn’t very good at any of his training either! Red was brought up with a tolerant father who helped train her in activities more often down by boys, but it has all helped her reach her ultimate goal.
The path towards hr prophecy will involve a visit to her grandmother’s small hut in the woods and she is lucky to have the first Huntsman she met, Kit, along as her trainer and friend. What happens is for you to find out. Grimm Academy is the place many go to escape their prophecies, but it doesn’t always work and being as poor as she is, the details of her own prophecy are very sketchy and not as detailed as many others. Matters have been adjusted in this retelling and makes for an enjoyable read. Short but complete. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Little Red Riding Hood becomes a Huntsman. Aredenne has always wanted to be a Huntsman, even though they don’t usually let in girls. She passes the two trials and starts her training. She loves working the other Huntsman and especially her advisor Kit, but her old beau Peter (who also betrayed her with another girl) is there and he is snide, hateful, and full of hate and resentment. But she doesn’t know why because he is the one who cheated. She knows she has a prophecy and unfortunately Peter knows it too. Will he betray her here too? Spin on a classic with academy touches. Love this author and her spin on fairy tales. Great female character great male characters
This is the latest great story in the Grimm Academy series by Laura Greenwood. I loved every second of it. I couldn’t wait to see what happened to Red and Kit.
Red has always dreamed of becoming a Huntsman. Now she has her chance. She is at Grimm Academy for her prophecy so she tries out. She makes it and has to prove herself to others. Kit was the first Huntsman that she met. He becomes her partner. What will she do when her prophecy starts?
