What a fabulous read!!! It reminds me of the gothic romance mystery books I first read as a young girl. The main characters Audrey rose and the charming Thomas cresswell are fabulous together and have a great chemistry!! Hunting Prince Dracula was a grand adventure with a great setting and awesome storyline with great secondary characters as well. I love Victorian themed mysteries, they will always be my fave historical reads. Can’t wait to read the other books in this series.I’m a big fan of kerri maniscalco’s and can’t say it enough, how much I enjoyed this read!
Hunting Prince Dracula is a wonderful sequel in the Stalking Jack the Ripper series. We get more of the awesome banter between Audrey Rose and Thomas Cresswell. And the historical period is the perfect setting for this book. I also enjoy how the events from the previous book are not forgotten and work really well to further the plot. Although the book has a pretty slow start, I think that it makes it up in plot twists. I look forward to reading Escaping from Houdini, the next book in the series.
First off , I think this book would make a great TV show and I for sure would watch it
I started this book knowing it was book two but didn’t think they are connected . For some reason I thought they are following different people and since I didn’t read book one….. yet I started it. I learned pretty early on that I was wrong but I really didn’t care at that point because I just liked it way to much. Plus If didn’t really spoil that much and I really didn’t think the Jack the Ripper book would have a HEA
I usually not a big fan of historical fiction but this one sounded interesting and it was. It was well written, it was fun and kept you guessing. The setting while was great, and I really enjoyed it.
I also loved Audrey, she was a powerhouse for her time, she didn’t let the men put her down no matter what they said or how they treated her. She was a real trailblazer for the tiimepwriod and that was another thing I enjoyed. She was also very funny and had many laugh out loud moments on top her sassiness.
I also enjoyed Thomas very much and it seems like her always found trouble somewhere. I LOVED them together, it was funny, sweet , sassy and of course romantic and bit scandals for the time period.
It also was spooky and sometimes gross, not overly so that people with weak stomachs couldn’t handle it. Overall it was soo much fun and I cant wait to actually read the first book lol.
Also after the ending I look very much forward to book three in the series.
Over all I read the book 5 , I listen to the Audio which was fantastic.
Amazing!!! Can’t wait to read the next one.
Audrey Rose and Thomas are in Romania, at the medical college , ready to learn. The dark atmosphere and gothic setting are perfect for this twisted plot. Bats, secret passages, devil dogs, and murder keep this storyline racing along! I liked the first in this series and this one is even better.
In absolute love with“Cressworth”!!! I throughly enjoyed this!! It was packed with chilling scenes and frightening nightmarish beings! The moments of charm falling from Creswell were so very sweet and very much were in keeping with the time period. You have to appreciate his efforts to woo Audrey Rose… he did his best. You can’t help but shake your head at his antics and react with appropriate horror. So much was packed into just a few weeks! I loved the settings and most definitely applaud Ms. Maniscalco for her inventive details!! This story lept from its pages to sink its claws into me! I couldn’t wait to turn each page! Who does love a spooky tale set in a frightening real life castle!? I’m excited to begin the next adventure and fall more deeply for “Cressworth”!!
The sequel to ‘Stalking Jack the Ripper’, this is equally gripping and dramatic historical fiction set in Romania, with the majority of the story taking place at the school of forensic medicine that is housed in the castle that once belonged to Vlad the Impaler.
The book blends history, folklore, horror and forensic mystery genres in a uniquely twisting tale in which Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Cresswell once again seek to solve a series of mysterious deaths. The action is well paced, heightened by plenty of suspense and intrigue. There are plenty of mysterious characters and viable suspects, and the story is so well constructed that the truth almost imperceptible until it is revealed.
I personally loved this book….the main character *Audrey rose* goes threw a lot and handles it so well.It involves death but in a way that’s understanding and easy to handle. I’ve never really read anything like it. I spent a couple days doing nothing but reading it and I can’t wait to move onto the next book of the series!
I love EVERYTHING by Kerri Maniscalco, this is book 2, my favorite out of the series and is a must read! Counting the down until book 4!!
This mystery is even better than the last! There are so many suspects, each with different possible motives. I was so excited to finish this book because I wanted to find out which of my suspects where the murderer. It will truly take you by surprise.
Throughout the entire book, we see different sides of Thomas and learn more about his secrets he keeps locked away. Maniscalco explores his sides to his personality that I don’t think were shown much in the first book. We also walk with Audrey through her state of mind after going through the last murder case. Her emotional and psychological stability is as what we would expect, which I honestly find refreshing. It makes her seem more realistic. The development with these two has been remarkable and I wouldn’t rather have it any other way.
The plot is interesting in every way possible. I could not tear my eyes away from the pages. I was completely invested in this book and finding out who the murderer was. Who doesn’t love a good murder mystery in Romania, where the victims appear as though Dracula is feasting? Even the way the victims had been murdered were fascinating! I don’t remember ever being bored at any point while reading this book because I was wondering what the next clue would be.
Maniscalco’s melodic, gorgeous writing style continues in this book. I never thought I minded the way an author wrote, but after reading two of her books, I new this was one of my favorite styles. Either that or she has quickly become one of my favorite authors. This book easily became one of my favorites, and I think that this one is even better than the first.
A book set in 19th century Romania, and follows the horror filled story of Count Dracula! Written really well and had a lot of character development in it.
I loved this with my whole heart and soul!
Hunting Prince Dracula (HPD) was another lovely installment to the Stalking Jack the Ripper (SJtR) series. HPD is a little longer, so it’s a bit less overpriced, but I still think this series are too expensive for eBooks. If my review sparks your interest, check HPD out from a library or borrow it from a friend.
Once again, Ms. Maniscalco wrote a story with two endings. First there’s the ending to the Impaler mystery, then there’s the actual ending to the book. This time, the second ending includes an epilogue, so, in some ways, you could say there are three endings.
The epilogue leads us into book 3 quite well. I’ve got to give Ms. Maniscalco credit for sneaking in a reference to her next book, Escaping from Houdini, earlier in HPD, in Liza’s letter. I can only assume Audrey Rose and Thomas will need to save Liza in book 3.
The sexual tension between Audrey Rose and Thomas is significantly more apparent in HPD. Audrey Rose’s reactions to it seem plausible enough. I do wish the ending would have left things a bit more definitive between them, though.
The grand evolutionary arc of their friendship (minus the bumps along the road) is great. Their comfort with and trust in each other matures nicely throughout the series, overcoming many obstacles.
I enjoyed the inclusion of Daciana’s relationship with Ileana and Audrey Rose’s reactions to it. It seems ultimately unimportant to the story, for now at least, but it’s always nice to see multiple types of relationships portrayed in books without unnecessary fan-fare
Overall, I enjoyed the story, and look forward to reading book three. It’s been a fun series so far.
This series is fascinating and morbid and I live for it. I appreciate how real Audrey is. She’s smart, brave, but not completely infallible. This is a series I can reread without problems.

Review:
Sometimes book can suffer from the “second book syndrome” in a series. Meaning they sometimes aren’t as good as the first one. This was definitely not the case. The characters were still as good as they where in the first book, they got even better. The mystery was still there and it was as unpredictable as it was in the first book.
One thing that did start to bother me a tiny bit is the amount of times Audry Rose would say they where being unchaperoned and how bad that was for their image and such, for her to be alone with Thomas. At some point I felt my self thing “Yes I know, you’re being scandalous, I got it”.
What is this book about:
This book is about Audry Rose and Thomas. Both are traveling to Romania to attend a medical forensic school. Both of them could use some peace and quiet after the events in Stalking Jack the Ripper. Audry Rose is still very much struggling with everything that happend, and still mourning. However peace and quit just doesn’t seem like that can happen for both of them as there has been a murder committed right outside their train compartment. And things don’t end there. As if it isn’t hard enough for Audry Rose to be in such a women unfriendly profession and school, students and maids go missing and end up murdered. Is the famous Vlad Dracula really back from the dead as the villagers are thinking, or is there a more scientific explanation for these odd deaths.
As Audry Rose and Thomas work their best to secure a spot on the academy, and solving murders, they are also growing more close. Their friendship is getting stronger and there is also some change going on. Once again its up to our crime solving duo to figure out who is behind these murders before they themselves become a target….
What did I like about this book:
I really loved the banter between Audry Rose and Thomas. They would make an amazing couple and that needs to happen ASAP. They are just perfect for one another.
I loved the mystery in this book. Once again I couldn’t figure out who was behind these killings. It’s very cleverly written.
I just adore Thomas. He is such a funny, charming guy. I really like him.
Another thing I liked seeing was how Audry Rose was struggling with what happend. Not that I liked to see her suffering but it made it more realistic.
I can’t wait to read more about them, especially after that ending. That ending made me so incredibly happy.
Sadly that happiness changed into anxiety and took some of the magazines of these books away after I saw a bit of a spoiler regarding the next book. If its gonna go the way people are suggesting they are it might ruin the books for me. There are certain tropes that I just can’t do and it seems like that might happen.
Rating:
5 I love it Stars
This is my favorite of the author’s books so far.
First, I just have to say this series has some of the most stunning covers I’ve ever seen. The physical copy of this book is GORGEOUS!
Now, as for the actual story, it’s even better than Stalking Jack the Ripper, book 1 in the series. It’s not very often that the second book or movie is better than the first, Twilight, Divergent, Grease, and Dirty Dancing are a few examples, but Hunting Prince Dracula defies the norm. I just couldn’t put this book down. Cresswell made me swoon even more in this book and the flirtatious banter between him and Audrey Rose was spot on. I did sympathize with Cresswell’s well-meaning efforts to protect Audrey that repeatedly were the wrong move. As for the mystery of who the killer was and his or her motives behind the killings, I was stumped until the very end. I had a couple different theories, but I can honestly say I never guessed the correct killer and motive.
Solid 4.5 stars. From the very first page to the last, this book does not let up for a single moment. The short of it:
– Audrey Rose and Thomas are the most compelling and adorable literary duo; I will go down with this ship.
– There are so many beautiful quotes scattered throughout this novel, the characters are endearing and well-developed (YES Daciana and Illeana!), and the setting/mystery/intrigue just suck you into the world and time period so completely.
– I’m already dying for the third book.
All the females in this series, especially our fearless heroine Audrey Rose, make me feel strong, powerful, intelligent, and achingly proud of my femininity and stance as a woman. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite series, you will not regret picking it up!
