Four Buchanan brothers have found their brides…only three more to go in this scintillating romance from New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands… long-legged and slender like her sisters, or flirtatious and wily like other lasses. Since her betrothed died, Dwyn has resigned herself to becoming an old maid. Yet a chance encounter with a stranger in the orchard awakens her to a new world of sensation and possibility…
After weeks away, Geordie Buchanan returns to find his home swarming with potential brides, thanks to his loving but interfering family. But one lass in particular draws his attention from the moment he spies her climbing a tree. Lady Dwyn is not nearly as plain as she thinks. Her lush figure and eager kisses delight him, as does her honesty. But the real test lies ahead: eliminating a hidden enemy, so that he and Dwyn can seal their Highland passion with a vow.

I loved the strong heroine who wasn’t afraid to take her fate within her own hands. A piratical, but open-minded individual who wins the love of a very sexy highlander.
Dwyn Innes was invited to Buchanan Castle to meet the remaining unwed Buchanan brothers and possibly make a match. She meets Geordie Buchanan by accident when she climbs a tree to escape the taunts of the other “Brides”. Dwyn is no beauty, but she knows she is not ugly and her bosom certainly entices men, however, she knows she can’t compare to the other lovely ladies at the castle, so she is surprised when the handsome man joins her in the tree and even more surprised when he steals a kiss.
Geordie was not aware of Jetta’s plan to find brides for himself, Alick & Rory and he tells his eldest brother Aulay that he is not ready to marry. But the more time he spends with Dwyn, the more he likes her and begins to think that marriage to the buxom beauty might be exactly what he needs.
As they spend more time together and grow closer, a series of “accidents” befall Dwyn, first her feet are cut, which results in Geordie carrying her around, he decides that he must marry her, but while he is meeting with her father she is poisoned, thankfully the poison was not meant to kill her, but she is violently ill, but that doesn’t keep Geordie from her side and makes him more determined than ever to wed her. They handfast and share an amazing night together, they both know they have deeper feelings and it seems like HEA is a given, but when a trip to Geordie’s favorite spot turns deadly, “until death do us part” seems a lot closer than it did just a day ago!!
This was a well written, fast paced, fun story with a lot of steamy love scenes, laugh out loud moments, quite a bit of tongue in cheek humor and a lot of focus on the heroine’s ample bosom – it was just an amusing, easy read that didn’t devolve into outright silliness, but at the same time was not weighted down by too much drama. I loved Geordie and Dwyn as a couple, they are so well suited for each other, Dwyn is no wilting flower, she is smart, brave and adventurous – exactly the type of woman Geordie never knew he always wanted! I felt that their relationship progressed at a believable pace and they are complemented by a wonderful cast of secondary characters. Additionally, the story features a very well-executed “who dunnit” as well as a pretty nasty villain whose punishment certainly fits the crime. On the downside, there is a lot of modern verbiage as well as a ton of title/address errors, but it for the sake of the story, I was willing to ignore these things and just enjoy the story for what it was: a fun, steamy, entertaining read. This is the eighth (yes, the 8th) book in the series, but it can definitely be read as a stand-alone title and I am very happy to recommend this title.
*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that was provided to me by Edelweiss and the publisher.*
** 4.25 Stars **
I had such fun reading this book! It was witty and steamy and the characters were a delight. Yes, some serious things happened, but the humor made it all tolerable. Picture a castle full of randy males with Dolly Parton in their midst. This book is much, much steamier than the other books in the series – some of it was gratuitous, but that was okay with me. This is classic Lynsay Sands and I thoroughly enjoyed the read.
The Buchanan family consists of eight – yes, eight – children – seven brothers and one sister. The sister, Saidh, and four of the brothers, Dougall, Niels, Aulay, and, Conran have already found their HEAs. Now, Saidh and her sisters-in-law have decided that it is time for the remaining three brothers, Geordie, Rory, and, Alick, to find wives as well. In furtherance of that goal, the ladies have invited a number of eligible young ladies to Buchanan Castle. However, they aren’t just any young ladies – there are certain criteria they – and their fathers – must meet before receiving an invitation. Luckily for the ladies’ plan, Geordie, Rory, and Alick have been away for several months and are due home any day. Won’t they be surprised?
Geordie returned home late in the night to find the castle filled to overflowing. He couldn’t even walk across the floor to get to his room without stumbling over bodies. Rather than run an obstacle course, he decides he’ll just sleep in the orchard. That was a good plan until he was awakened early the next morning – after only a few hours of sleep – by the strange sound of someone making noises to sound like a horse. Then, he sees a woman reach down and grab the back of her skirt, pull it through her legs and tuck it into her waistband. Next, she grabs onto a branch and disappears up into the tree – she doesn’t fall out, but she doesn’t come back down either. Geordie assumes he’ll just have to rescue her and proceeds to climb the tree after her. Only, she doesn’t need rescuing – she’s perfectly happy there and intends to stay. They chat and enjoy each other’s company for a while, but goodness, she is distracting. She has a very generous bosom and it is scarcely contained within her gown.
Lady Dwyn Innes is one of the ladies invited to Buchanan Castle to vie for the hand of one of the remaining unmarried brothers. Dwyn has basically raised her two sisters and managed their holdings all by herself since she was about six years old. Yes, she has a father who is officially the Laird, but he is distracted and vague – much more interested in cataloging the plants on his estate than he is in raising his daughters and managing his clan. Since her father has no sons, as the oldest daughter she is his heir and will inherit Innes upon his death. Since the death of her betrothed, Dwyn has attracted the unwanted and unwelcome attentions of the neighboring Laird. For her, the invitation to Buchanan Castle is very welcome.
Lady Dwyn has led a sheltered life at Innes. She’s never met anyone she didn’t like – or who didn’t like her – and she never really gave her looks any thought. However, her sisters, in an effort to help her, have adjusted all of her clothing so that her ample bosom is definitely on display. She knows she’s not as beautiful as her sisters, but that hasn’t ever bothered her before. Now, she feels more like a brown wren – not attractive and with no chance at attracting one of the Buchanan’s. When she meets a handsome man in a tree in the orchard, she enjoys his company and doesn’t realize – until he’s already gone – that she never learned his name.
I know there are readers who will think this book has too much steam and that the word boob (or a derivative of it) is used too many times, but I thought that it was the lightness that made the very serious things that happened more bearable. Geordie was a randy fellow – but – Lady Dwyn was just as randy, so they were perfect for each other.
I hope you’ll enjoy this well-written, witty, randy, and romantic read. I surely did.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What can I say? Lynsay Sands is one of my top favorite authors. The whole series is funny. I especially like the Buchanan brothers.
Another win for Lyndsay Sands! Loved Geordie’s story. The Buchanan’s and friends is a great series.
These two were destined for each other from the first. Who could imagine meeting in a peach tree. So funny and romantic, and there was a lightheartedness not always found in romance stories. As hoped for, the bad guys/girls get their just rewards, which always enhances a story for me. Bit of a tear-jerker in a couple of scenes, but overall just a happy joy to read.
Love all her books!
Highland romance, great story!
This was a sweet story of “Don’t judge the book by the cover”. Dwyn was a sweet, funny woman and once Geordie looked past the physical appearances and got to know her, it was sweet reading him fall.
Another Great Addition To The Series – 3.5 Stars
I liked Geordie and Dwyn and I liked the fact their story had fewer tragic elements compared to the previous ones. I still don’t get how Dwyn let her sisters talk her into wearing gowns she was practically spilling from, but then I guess it all worked out in the end. She won Geordie.
Beyond excellent. Dwyn and Geordie are sweet, sexy, and romantic together. Love them.
Enjoy every book she writes.
I love all of her books… all of them are well-written. I have all of her books and I just love each and every one
Fun book. With four of the seven Buchanan brothers married off, their sister and sister-in-law feel that it’s time Geordie, Rory, and Alick, also settle down. To aid in this endeavor, they invite a selection of unmarried women to visit, hoping to tempt the men into matrimony.
Geordie was away for several months, helping various members of his family settle into their new homes. He returned late one night to discover his home stuffed with people, so he slept in the orchard. He awoke the next morning to the sounds of several women making horse noises and the sight of another woman climbing a tree.
Dwyn is one of the women invited to Buchanan Keep, but she holds out no hope to attract one of the men. She is neither thin nor beautiful, a fact that several of the other women do not hesitate to remind her. Tired of their constant tormenting, Dwyn escapes to the orchard and climbs a tree, knowing her pursuers wouldn’t think to look up.
I loved the first meeting between Geordie and Dwyn. Geordie’s protective instincts are aroused when he sees Dwyn climb the tree and thinks she won’t be able to get down. Dwyn is startled to have a strange man suddenly appear in her tree and isn’t quite sure how to deal with him at first. Her embarrassment is compounded by the fact that the dress her sisters altered cause her bosom to escape its confines. I loved how quickly Geordie and Dwyn became comfortable with each other. Geordie got an earful of why the keep was so crowded, giving him advance warning of what to expect when he finally goes inside. He is intrigued by Dwyn’s straightforward attitude and very attracted to her lush figure. He also has no intention of marrying any time soon, feeling that he still has wild oats to sow. Dwyn is upfront in her opinion of her attributes and chances and her frustration with the position she is in. She is stunned when Geordie suddenly kisses her and can’t help responding. She’s equally stunned when he suddenly stops, drops from the tree, and disappears.
Thus begins an unusual courtship. Though Geordie insists to his brothers that he is not ready to marry, he also inadvertently gives away that he has already met Dwyn and is attracted to her. It was fun to watch his uncle pay attention to Dwyn solely to stir up Geordie’s jealousy and make him realize that he wants Dwyn for himself. When Dwyn is injured after being the subject of his attention, Geordie makes it his mission to care for her. I loved seeing them get to know each other. It’s clear that Geordie is falling hard for Dwyn, though he resists admitting his feelings to himself. Dwyn is oblivious to Geordie’s feelings, believing that he’s just being nice. When Geordie finally realizes that he wants Dwyn as his wife, he wastes no time in going to her father. I had to laugh at the meeting with her father and his brother and his impatience to get the marriage accomplished.
It quickly becomes apparent that someone doesn’t want the marriage to take place. Geordie is determined to do whatever he must to keep Dwyn safe. But there is another enemy who is bent on revenge against Dwyn. He wants her family’s land and didn’t take kindly to her refusal of his advances. The story gets intense very quickly when Geordie is injured foiling one kidnapping attempt. When a second attempt is successful, Dwyn must rely on her own wits to stay alive until Geordie can come to her rescue. I was glued to the pages as Dwyn faced off against her enemy, and Geordie rallied his family. I loved the final confrontation and seeing the bad guy get what was coming to him. It was intense, but with a few lighter moments popping up.
We are now down to two brothers left unmarried. Will it be Rory or Alick who falls next? I can’t wait to find out.
Predictable
Lynsay Sands’ Hunting For A Highlander is the book 8 of the Highland Brides series. Just like the others, it is filled with adventure, family, romance, humor, and passion. Upon returning home, Geordie Buchanan finds the castle overrun with potential brides, thanks to his loving but interfering family. One lass catches his eye when he spies her climbing a tree. Lady Dwyn feels utter out of place among the lovelier women because she isn’t long-slender and slender like her sisters. She is not as plain as she thinks she is because her lush figure and eager kisses delight Geordie, but a hidden enemy threatens their Highland passion.
In the Highland Brides series, Lynsay Sands writes masterful tales about Buchanan men and their brides that leave me wanting for more. She adds just enough intrigue and danger to reveal the identity of the enemy. The romance in Hunting For A Highlander has enough heat to start a forest fire. Both Geordie and Dwyn are delightful characters who are so much in love with each other! I look forward to the next Buchanan brother in finding his Highland bride.
Oh my goodness, I loved this book! I have been away from this genre for too long and so glad I dove back in w/ Lynsay Sands. I am definitely going to pick up the other 7 books in the series I liked it so much! Her style of writing was crisp, detailed, hot and the perfect balance of humor. The main characters were adorable together in their discovery of what they both wanted. Through in a few meddling family members, a disgruntle neighbor and the magic of the highlands and you have a great story. I definitely recommend this book to all!
I won a digital copy of this novel from Goodreads in return of an honest review.
Hunting for a Highlander is the 8th book in the Highland Brides Series. Each book can be read as a stand alone but IMO it’s best to be read in numerical order.
Lady Dwyn Innes is usually liked by all and is confused by the meanness of 2 ladies that are visiting at Buchanan Keep. They have her feeling terribly out of place among all the slender, beautiful ladies that have arrived at the Keep to attract the attentions of the 3 unmarried brothers. Dwyn doesn’t have long legs, she is not slender, she is plain in looks, and her best feature is her overly large breasts. Instead of being flirty she speaks bluntly. Her betrothed died 7 years ago and Dwyn has since given up ever bring married. But set on escaping her tormentors, she climbs a tree in the orchard and few minutes later a stranger climbs up with her and kisses her. Her first kiss and the possibility for more…
Geordie Buchanan has been gone for months and returns to find his home overflowing with lots of people. He can’t even walk across the room to the stairs, it’s body upon body laying on the floors. So, he escapes to the orchard and when a sound of a person making whinny noises of a horse draws his attention. He watches as a woman climbs a tree. Lady Dwyn’s curvy figure and spontaneous kisses delight him, so does her honesty. But someone is trying to hurt her on purpose and they need to find and eliminate a enemy that seems to be hiding. Then he and Dwyn can seal their Highland vows and make a home.
*Spoilers* & the first one I have ever given over the decades. It couldn’t be helped .
This was funny and entertaining and rather ridiculous in some spots, too many spots. Geordie and Dwyn’s tale is like any other during the time period, it pushes the envelope, that part is spectacular.
There’s bashfulness, blushing, broad shoulders, anxiety, heated looks and exchanges, all of this makes for a wonderful build up and slow burn. Love it. The reviews saying it’s too much sex couldn’t have read the rest of the series or her other books, they all have it, aaaand it’s well done.
Unfortunately the story jumps the shark too many times. There are threats, murder and attempted murders and the main characters take off on their own without a care in the world? No. Not buying it.
They have what seems to be a legion of soldiers at their beck and call and leave people on their own? Whew, I’m being asked to use my imagination too much .
There’s too much trying too hard for no reason.
But…I’m definitely reading any and everything she writes next, her catalogue is that good. I won’t let a fluke stop me from being a loyal fan .
It started in a tree. Yes, Dwyn had escaped to get away from the taunting ladies all vying for the hand of the last three Buchanan brothers that were unmarried. She knew she would not have a chance because she was not beautiful and slender like all the other ladies. So she went to the orchard and climbed a tree. Little did she know that Geordie Buchanan had been asleep under a nearby tree and saw her. He decided to climb up after her and help her down. Oh my, and it ended with a kiss. Of course she did not know who he was so…
A delightful story full of humor and an instant attraction that sizzles, but it is soon apparent someone is trying to harm Dwyn. Accidents start happening and she get violently ill. So as they spend more time together, Geordie wants to marry her and asks for her hand. But who knows if she will make it alive!
Lynsay Sands always writes stories that draw me in and this was no exception. Wonderful characters and I loved these two!! A great addition to this great series!
