Hunting Darkness by Maggie Alabaster is such an amazing story that I have had the privilege to read. This is book number one in amazing new series that I have fallen in love with and can not wait to read more of this series. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about fantasy and paranormal romances.

Fast action that doesn’t run over the storyline, characters with witty interaction, and a slow burn possible love interest. Throw in magic, demons, and chaos and you have a quick and fun read.

There is no denying that is a slow burn RH romance. That being said it has left a lot of room for intrigue about the characters and RH. This is a great story that was a little slow to start for me but in the end this is a great story.
Juliet is a demon hunter. She is out one night, when she is approached and warned by a shade, and then everything gets turned upside down. The description says this is a slow burn RH, and it means slow burn. In this book we meet, three guys that I’m pretty sure will end up in her harem, but other than some attraction, there isn’t really romance or any kind of steam. I liked seeing Juliet and her crew trying to figure out the mystery – they are all snarky with tons of attitude. I really liked Juliet, and the over-arching story was good, I will be checking out book 2, to find out when happens next 🙂
2.5 stars
I was given this book for free in exchange for an honest review. As I’ve said before, I always give honest reviews whether people appreciate them or not.
This story begins with Juliet alone and hunting demons. Ok, no problem. The woman has a sword, some knives and she knows how to use them. Girl power! Towards the end of her shift she’s visited by a Shade. While she’s afraid, she isn’t about to cower before it so she asks why it’s hunted her down. Apparently the Shade is there to warn her about the end of humankind? Juliet heads back to headquarters where she tells her team leader, Malachai, what happened. The rest of the team trickles in and she tells them all what happened.
As usual, Juliet decides to take her next shift by herself, almost gets killed, then meets up with a demon/shifter/human hybrid friend of hers. Kannen ends up fighting demons with her and they have coffee talking about what’s been going on in the city (Sydney, Australia). They end up, on and off, teaming up together to investigate. They get some leads, fight some demons and drink incredible amounts of coffee and/or booze.
This is the first story I have read from Ms. Alabaster. It looked interesting so I thought I would give it a try. Sighs. All in all in wasn’t a bad story. I appreciated the fact that while Juliet, as with all main characters, had a few issues, she still managed to be strong. All the ‘supporting’ characters were interesting and reasonably written. I found the story’s tempo to be slow for the first seventy percent or so. It got better the last thirty percent. I’d also like to point out that the blurb says “this is a slow burn reverse harem and the heat level will rise in the next book”. Maybe this is why the tempo was too slow for me. I didn’t see how this was even a reverse harem though. I saw that other readers gave this book Five Stars, and that’s fine. I just didn’t enjoy this one at all.
ONE INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!
Slamdunk! Revealing the drama, intrigue, turmoil, misgivings, mounting suspense and precarious situations along with a boatload of danger, you have one mind-blowing masterpiece. Anarchy, escapades and havoc run amuck, booting this gem into a tempest, bursting it into a frenzy with an life-altering realization. The dynamics and presentation in layer upon layer that you peel back with each page your drawn into this web so deep until everything else ceases to exist. The attraction and chemistry sizzles, alluring and mesmerizing, binding them to one another beautifully. The realism and authenticity of the characters as their on point personalities blend and connect along with the graphically detailed scenes that paints a majestic backdrop making the storyline pop.
