A wonderful start to what promises to be an interesting series. A masterfully crafted world in where the lands are being harassed by warning factions for control of a strategic pass but in shadows, the vampires are coming iron the fray, seeking seven amulets that will bring Tal’davin back into existence. The Countess Sophia has one and puts a call out to all vampires to rise up and find the rest. This has the Hunters, who have special weapons that can slay them, in the prowl. Barros is hunting her, trying to stop her while hunting for the same amulets. There’s plenty of action, sword fighting, as well as some surprising additions to the plot that will keep you turning the pages, just like a great Tolkien story would. I highly recommend this one!
The world of Taagras is a dark, brutal place. Vampires and Hunters are both extremely violent (this is a “dark” fantasy) filled with plenty of fighting and graphic action. However, in the beginning it gave me a feel of a Zorro movie. The snarky banter throughout the story lightens the mood. (I do love snarky.) 🙂 If you like action-packed stories with vampires, this one fits the bill.
Nothing good ever comes from a Vampire falling for a Hunter does it? Well there is a son who seems to have powers that need to be sorted out. So much going on in this complete series. It is heart stopping! Such page-turning, pulls you into book after book. You will want to buy the set to binge read one after the other!!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Vampire Hunters, good or bad? The line is blurred with the books first main character, Barros.
When a hunter falls in love with a vampire it can only mean trouble. This book opens up running, and basically keeps running – not towards the end, but to a pause, which means you just HAVE to buy book 2!
I think I am going to like Abner much more than Barros, I’ll have to read the next book to find out though.
This book is a bit bloody and rushes from one battle scene to the next, so if that is your cup of tea you’re going to love this book. This is a good vampire-hunter novel, I like the world we get a glimpse of, but it’s only a glimpse as the book is so fast paced it is full of action which leaves only a little time to build your image of the world they live in.
However, this is obviously only a taster opener and I am sure as we following the story of Abner and Lois we will get drawn deeper into this feisty fantasy world.
Can’t wait for book two.
Here’s a thrilling fantasy for those who like action, dubious heroes, vampires and impossible fights. Abner, the son of Hunter Barros is really the star character here, but this book builds everything very nicely right from the start, with the centre of attention focussed on all-round epic, but flawed, warrior Barros as he recovers from his fall from grace, to seek vengeance, only for his world to change again. If you like a fast-pace, swords and fights, you’ll love this book. Mememaro does not shy from ending his characters if the situation suits, and he has a flair for delivering excellent punch lines to end the chapters. I’m glad I discovered this series and I shall be looking up the next book shortly.
