Will his daughter pay the price?Former Army Ranger … price?
Former Army Ranger Pierce Hunt is no stranger to violence. Fresh off a six-month suspension, he’s itching to hit a notorious Mexican drug cartel where it hurts, even if that means protecting crime boss Vicente Garcia, a witness in the case against sadistic cartel leader Valentina Mieles. But things spiral out of control when the cartel murders Garcia and kidnaps his granddaughter and an innocent bystander, Hunt’s own teenage daughter.
Mieles wants the new head of the Garcia family on a plate—literally. Hunt has seventy-two hours to deliver, or Mieles will execute the girls live on social media. With the clock ticking, Hunt goes off the grid and teams up with Garcia’s daughter, a former lover and current enemy. To save the girls, Hunt will have to become a man he swore he’d never be again: an avenging killer without limits or mercy.

Wow. This book could be a movie tomorrow!
A straight forward action adventure story. As we would say in special operations this was direct action to the max. If you want an exciting read introducing a new series character, Pierce Hunt, this is the book for you.
Hunt them Down by Simon Gervais
A Pierce Hunt Thriller #1
Take one newsman more interested in ratings, insert him into a DEA raid and then expect the worst and that is just what you get. I read some reviews of this book saying that this would NEVER happen BUT I did google and found that reporters have been on raids or leaked information that should not have been leaked so it is possible…but…what a mess this situation made for Special Agent Pierce Hunt when it happened to his team!
Fast forward six months and Hunt is back on the job only to have a new mess to contend with. The convoy he is assigned to that is taking a witness for debriefing is attacked and most die and before the dust settles he finds out that his daughter has been kidnapped with one of her friends and needs to be rescued. And this is where the story truly begins. Throw in an ex-wife worrying and her rich husband willing to support his quest, a drug cartel he set up and a woman he scorned that he will have to work closely with to succeed, a few trusted men to work with that may or may not be trustworthy, an attitude that anything no matter how ruthless is okay as long as he gets his daughter back and the fact that he will have to go to Mexico to face someone so evil it boggles the mind and you have the basics of this rip roaring, pulse pounding, action packed thrill ride that left me wondering when the next book in the series will be released.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
Hunt Them Down is the first book in Simon Gervais’ Pierce Hunt series. This is my first experience with Gervais, but it won’t be my last. After listening to this, I plan to spend the extended Thanksgiving weekend binging all the Hunt books and perhaps dive into Gervais earlier works.
This is Summer Blockbuster, drags you in, holds on tight, and never lets go action/thriller material. At first I was a little concerned at the sheer number of people that Gervais introduced – but his writing combined with Shaw’s superb narration meant that I was never lost and truly felt like I was getting to know their unique personalities. While Pierce Hunt is former military and current DEA, he’s definitely NOT Captain America. While definitely a hero, he is far from perfect, but totally owns his mistakes and shortcomings. It made for a completely relatable character.
Hunt finds himself calling on old friends and allied with previous adversaries to pull off the rescue of a lifetime. I love that Gervais balances honoring Hunt as a skilled operator with the fact that not everything will go according to plan. Yes, this is definitely fiction, but offers a level of realism that made it easy to lose myself in the story. Not everyone is going to make it out alive and things aren’t tied off in a neat little package.
That said, Hunt survives, Gervais teases the future, and I’m ready to start Trained to Hunt.
Bon Shaw’s narration is fantastic. He has the perfect voice for not only Hunt, but a full cast of characters spanning various ages, genders, & accents. It’s impossible not to be drawn into the action. I’m looking forward to him narrating the rest of the series.
Engaging …violent. I really did enjoy this read. The book moved quickly. It is a story about drug cartels and the evil they proliferate. The storyline was straight forward with the ending I expected – no real surprises, twists or turns. It was quite violent, but given the topic, the violence was in scope. The characters were well developed. A ‘good guys win’ type of tale.
Hunt Them Down, author Simon Gervais’ fifth novel, and first starring ex-Ranger, DEA agent Pierce Hunt, starts with a bang and doesn’t slow down until the knock-down drag out showdown. With Tom Clancy-level authenticity and Lee Child-worthy bada—ery, Gervais displays his extensive knowledge of the thin lines separating crime-fighters from criminals as Hunt takes on cartel sicarios, ex-lovers with hacking skills, and the universal hopes and fears of any good parent. Paced like a Hollywood blockbuster, and I mean that in the good way, it’s easy to envision Pierce Hunt on the big screen. Hollywood, take note. Hunt Them Down puts the thrill in thriller.
Action-packed thriller with original writing. The thriller shelves need a fresh face, and Simon Gervais fits the bill. Hunt Them Down is a page turner with hard core action and family drama. Highly recommended for adult audiences.
By the end of the first chapter, I was convinced it was a made for TV movie script. Pierce is just a little too good to be true and his reasons for joining the DEA are too pat. Bratty daughter who is best friends with the cartel kingpin’s daughter and no one knows this??? The second half of the book got better, but I won’t be reading the next one in the series. Too many characters are stereo-typical. Too many situations are unbelievable.

Pierce Hunt is called in to rescue the teenaged daughter of a drug lord from the sadistic clutches of a rival. In a twist of fate his own daughter was kidnapped along with her.
Guns, knives, explosives, ruthless hit men, and a race against time make this book a page turner.
