Hunt the Dawn held me captive from beginning to end. It’s definitely a dark paranormal romance, not a fluffy romance, and not for the faint of heart. Abbie Roads writing is very compelling and has great flow to it. The characters were unique, flawed, and raw. Exactly what I like! Lathan was at once a bit scary, a bit vulnerable, and endearing with his protectiveness of Evanee. It was easy to see how she could fall for him and feel safe in his massive arms. There were a few things that I would have liked to be fleshed out a bit more but overall Hunt the Dawn definitely delivered. I look forward to reading more books from this author.
Hunt the Dawn is the second book in Abbie Roads’ Fatal Dreams series. You do not have to read the first book, Race the Darkness, to understand this one. There are some overlapping characters but their relationships are clearly explained so you don’t really feel like you missed something that happened earlier. The hero in this book was only mentioned briefly in the previous book.
Lathaniel “Lathan” Montgomery collaborates with the FBI on special cases. He does this because he has such an extraordinary sense of smell that he can actually smell your memories. While he is trying to catch a prolific serial killer, Lathan comes across a damsel in distress named Evanee Brown. He rescues her when she is about to be assaulted by her own stepbrother. Although his special ability has always came with a certain level of pain, he notices that when he is around Evanee his world is calm. Conversely, Lathan seems to have a similar effect on Evanee. As they spend more time together, it becomes apparent that Evanee has her own gifts that manifest while she is in a dream state. Together, Lathan and Evanee inadvertently garner the attention of the very serial killer that Lathan has been trying to capture. As he tries to keep her safe, the couple fall in love and establish a bond that can’t be broken.
I really enjoyed Hunt the Dawn. After reading the first one, I was concerned that I may be disappointed since there are similar themes. I was pleasantly surprised. The characters had a lot of depth and it was interesting to see how their unique gifts had an affect on them and their families. I was hoping that the author would write a third book but I think this may be it for this series. I may just have to see what else Abbie Roads has to offer.
Hunt the Dawn is the second book of Fatal Dreams series. In this book, it’s Evanee ‘Honey’ and Lathaniel ‘Lathan’s story. The start was good but as the story goes, it keeps getting better and better!! I loved every second of it. Lathan and Evanne’s story will make you call in love and somewhat emotional in some parts. Warning tho, be prepared before reading this because you might find some scenes gruesome.
Overall, the story is amazing and I love every minute of it!
Dark and edgy thriller that incorporates paranormal along with the main characters being connected on a mythological base like the couple in the first book.
The author sure likes to put uncomfortable story lines in her books. There are times when reading her stories that its a cross between being paranormal romantic suspense and straight horror.
There are many sums that make up this story. We briefly met Lathan Montgomery in the first book. He was wrapped in mystery and I admit to being intrigued and wanted to know more about him. After a childhood spent in and out of mental institutions Lathan pretty much lives a life of isolation due to his gifts. He can smell the energy imprints of people’s memories. He is currently working with his best friend Gill to try and find the serial killer the FBI has dubbed the Strategist.
Evanee Brown has lived both a living nightmare and one in the dreamworld. When her past comes back to attack her, Lathan happens to be at the right place at the right time to save her. They have an immediate connection (per the mythological link) and Lathan immediately know he must protect her.
There is a dual suspense story line with Evenee past and the Strategist both putting her in danger. I was turning the pages so fast that I couldn’t believe when it ended. I wasn’t ready for it to be over.
