He thought she was dead. He was wrong.
In a world where paranormals live side by side with humans, everybody knows about Ordinance 7304: the Bond Laws. Or, as the Paras snidely whisper to each other, the Claws Clause—a long and detailed set of laws that bonded couples must obey if they want their union to be recognized. Because it wasn’t already damn near impossible to find a fated mate in the … recognized.
Because it wasn’t already damn near impossible to find a fated mate in the first place. Now the government just has to get involved…
I remember—
Three years ago, Maddox Wolfe lost his mate. Since there’s nothing more dangerous than a bonded shifter on his own, Ordinance 7304 gave him three choices: voluntary incarceration until he’s no longer deemed a threat; a lobotomy-like procedure that would dissolve his bond; or a state-sanctioned execution so that he could be with his mate again. And while death held a certain appeal in the hazy days following the tragedy, Maddox had his family and his pack to live for. So, refusing to give up his memories of his sweet Evangeline, he chose to spend the rest of his days in the Cage.
I forget—
There’s a hole in Evangeline Lewis’s memory. The doctors tell her that it’s normal, that she’ll recover fully in time. After all, it’s only been three years since the accident that nearly killed her. They never thought she’d wake up; a nagging, annoying sensation that something’s wrong is the least of her worries. Especially since she has so much going on: a new apartment, a new job, her mother’s well-meaning attempts at match-making… but tell that to her wayward psyche.
By day, she can’t shake the feeling that something’s missing. And, by night, she can’t escape the dreams of a gorgeous man with glowing gold-colored eyes…
It’s entirely by chance when Maddox’s brother follows that familiar scent to the beautiful brunette with the haunted smile. But Colt knows immediately what he’s found: Maddox’s mate, alive if not altogether well.
Once he learns the truth, Maddox will stop at nothing to get her back, even if it he has to follow every twisted, convoluted letter of the ridiculous Claws Clause to do it. And when that doesn’t work?
Sometimes a wolf has to do what a wolf has to do. Stalking his mate, taking her captive until she remembers him… if it works, he’ll have his mate back. If it doesn’t, he’s dead. Even worse, Evangeline will probably hate him forever.
Maddox is desperate enough to take those odds.

This writing and editing in this book is fine.
I didn’t care for this book. This is what I don’t like about amnesia plots. It took forever for the romance to move forward. Evangeline was hesitant, as she should have been. However I hated that they were basically on a deadline for her to remember so they could bond. It took forever, over halfway through the book, despite this very real deadline. I didn’t like how this story with Cilla came about conveniently. I didn’t like why it wasn’t explained why Adam is so hooked on Evangeline. I also don’t understand why these two characters would show up and make their motives clear in Colton’s book, since his is the next in the series. (Note: The Christmas book Of Mistletoe and Mating is book 1.5 but seems more like a slice of life holiday book.) I honestly think the current ending with Colt would be enough to entice someone to read book 2 rather than leaving it open about Cilla and Adam.
He has lost his mate and there are only three choices. A cage, surgery or even death. He chooses the cage as he still has a family to look after. What he does not know is she is alive but has no memory of him. Can they be reunited? See if they can

Entertaining and fun; love the overall premise! Wolf shifter Maddox thinks his mate Evangeline is dead; she isn’t, but she is missing her memories. She doesn’t remember over a year of her life, which includes all her time with Maddox; someone is out to keep them apart. It’s so screwed up what happens to them! I read the short prequel, so I’m already starting the story pissed at certain people for their deception in this book. Not a fan of the 3 years separation, but love that this book gets right into revealing some secrets. Don’t like Maddox’s approach when he finds Evangeline; didn’t he learn from the events in the prequel? Honesty goes a long way, People!Maddox and Evangeline are idiots sometimes, and it can get super annoying. They do have a sweet connection though, and are good fit for each other. What Maddox has to put up with from Evangeline is crazy, but he also doesn’t think things through, so he brings it on himself. Plus, Maddox’s brother, Colt, gives horrible advice! Colt’s book is going to be torture! But, I’m still looking forward to it; I like the premise for Colt’s book minus that his mate is someone that can’t say no to loser people; not looking forward to reading that. Hopefully Colt and his mate catch a clue very early in the book! Overall, I’m enjoying a lot of elements present in this series; love that male wolf shifters are so loyal, and the overall paranormal world has some cool ideas. Excited to continue the series!
A great start to this series. I loved the story and the characters. This book is well worth the read. You will not be disappointed.

I love it when people take a popular genre and give it a twist. While there are many of the things that I love about shifter novels the world that Jessica created was refreshing. Plenty if twists and turns to keep the story interesting and characters that are easy to love. Cant wait to continue the series.

Allow a full, very long day for this NC17 paranormal second chance romance. I had an ARC and this voluntary review is my own opinion.

This is the first book in the series and I loved it. Maddox is an alpha wolf whose mate died and he lets himself be caged. Evangeline has lost her memories but feels she has lost so much more. This storyline hooked me from the start.

Hungry Like a Wolf has intense action and suspense. The characters are endearing, and the toxic manner in which humans treat shifters in the story reeks of prejudice and racism. Maddox and Evangeline are fated, mates. He was lead to believe that she did not survive a crash, and he followed the law and allowed himself to be locked up. Evangeline was betrayed by those she loves the most and kept apart from the one man who loved her more than life itself. Priscilla and Alex both are just selfish and crazy characters who attempt to keep the two apart. This book shows us that true love cannot be broken and is a real phenomenon.
Humans consider the shifter race as less than in society, and that makes me sad. Humans prove to be just as dangerous as shifters. The story reminds us that good and evil exist in all species. How we treat each other is reflective of our humanity.

The story so far…. three years ago, on her weeding day Maddox and Angie have a fatal crash that ended up with Angie declared death on the hospital and Maddox committed for life. Due to the Claws Clause every bonded shifter that has lost his partner must decided between magically severing the bond, wipe out all memories of the deceased partner or be committed to “the Cage” for life. Maddox could not bear to forget his beloved, and have been reclused in prison ever since.
Now three years later the story shows flaws and holes whatever you look. As Colt (Maddox’ brother) casually sees Angie on the street, the past needs to be rewritten: Angie is not death, Maddox have to get out of prison and find her to consummate their bond. There is however a teeny-tiny problem…. Angie has no recognition whatsoever of her life and Maddox prior to the accident. As Colt decides to take the matter into his own…claws…. things become hairy.
“Hungry Like a Wolf”, the first book in the Claws Clause Series, is part paranormal romance and part non-stop action with a healthy dose of dry humor… Maddox fight against bureaucracy… is funny and feels so…. real. A fairly well written story, fast-paced, easy to read and entertaining.
“Hungry like a Wolf” is aimed to an adult audience. A prequel “Mates” relating the event prior to Maddox and Angie’s accident is also available. It is not necessary to read the prequel to enjoy this book, but it makes a fine reading, nevertheless
I enjoyed it
loved the book just wished it all came in 1 book
Interesting read
If you enjoy wolf shifters and their mates, then this is a must read. The main characters are very likable as are the secondary characters. A lot of action and suspense in this love story that sees a woman who has lost her memory and her bonded mate who needs her to remember him.

Maddox and Angie have a sordid past but do they have a future? Maddox is Colt’s older brother and they are both shifters. Angie is Maddox’ s mate. Colt would do anything for his brother. This story was full of mystery and intrigue. Questionable friends, kidnapping, and amnesia add to a good journey with strong characters.
