What a fantastic riot of a book. Biker space witches! Set on a semi-Wild West world that’s basically owned by an unaccountable corporation. Hob is a tough-as-nails witch and member of a mercenary biker gang that gets pulled into world-changing events. Mag, her friend, starts off as a damsel in distress and then finds the hell out of her feet. Strong women setting out to kick arse and take names with the aid of a mysterious man called the Bone Collector who turns to stone occasionally. As you do.
I loved the very human, fallible but steel-spined women; the beautifully judged blend of magic and SF; the vivid dry atmosphere and creepy as hell bad guys. A rampaging adventure, highly recommended.
This is a hot page burning action packed must-read !

Alex Wells is an incredibly gifted writer. Their descriptions of the world on which the novel is based is so evocative that I could feel heat, and taste the dust & sand on my lips. I had not read a fantasy/sci-fi novel in quite some time & wasn’t sure it was a genre I cared about anymore. I couldn’t put this book down! Alex writes like no one else, clean, clear, crisp, honest. I felt the emotions, could picture clearly most of the characters–and I felt desperate & cut-off when the novel ended; I hungered for more. And there is more, an action-packed sequel entitled Blood Binds The Pack. Both are well worth the read.
This book is perfect for fans of smart, funny, and fierce female characters
A very gritty, violent world run by a corrupt and iron-fisted company named TransRift Inc, the planet of Tanegawa’s World is home to company employees and guards, miners, farmers and the rejects that have been blacklisted by the company. Those rejects are the biker group called the Ghost Wolves, headed by Nick Ravani, living a hardscrabble life out in the desert. Hob arrived on a rift ship as a young girl and was taken in and raised by Nick. When she finds the body of Nick’s miner brother in the desert and learns that his daughter Mag is missing, Hob is determined to try to bring her home with the help of a strange being known as the Bone Collector. The story goes on from there with troubles between the miners and the company, as well as the people who have been changed by this strange world, gaining “witchy” abilities which the company is determined to stamp out by any means necessary. Hob is one of the few women in the group but can hold her own amongst the men, and she has the same abilities that Nick has, she can summon fire from within. I liked the wonderful characters, including Hob, Mag, Coyote, the Bone Collector and Rollins, the undercover spy working to learn the company’s secrets. It looks like there just might be a revolution brewing and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series to find out what happens next.
Good read
Very enjoyable as Hob finds her way forward. I’ll look forward myself to the sequel.
