“An elegant, wise book of love in action.”– Deepak Chopra HumanKind is the heartwarming feel-good book that we all need right now.Brad Aronson’s life changed in an instant when his wife, Mia, was diagnosed with leukemia. After her diagnosis, Brad spent most of the next two and a half years either by her side as she received treatment or trying to shield their five-year-old son, Jack, from the … or trying to shield their five-year-old son, Jack, from the worst of Mia’s illness. Amid the stress and despair of waiting for the treatment to work, Brad and Mia were met by an outpouring of kindness from friends, family and even complete strangers.
Inspired by the many demonstrations of “humankindness” that supported their family through Mia’s recovery, Brad began writing about the people who rescued his family from that dark time, often with the smallest of gestures. But he didn’t stop there. Knowing that simple acts of kindness transform lives across the globe every day, he sought out these stories and shares some of the best ones here.
In HumanKind, you’ll meet the mentor who changed a child’s life with a single lesson in shoe tying, the six-year-old who launched a global kindness movement, the band of seamstress grandmothers who mend clothes for homeless people, and many other heroes.
Brad also provides dozens of ways you can make a difference through the simplest words and deeds. You’ll discover how buying someone a meal or sharing a little encouragement at the right time can change someone’s world, as well as your own.
The resource section at the back of the book provides guidance and organizations that will help you channel and amplify your own acts of kindness. Here you’ll discover:
- How you can fund a surgery to cure someone’s blindness with a donation of less than $200.
- Organizations through which you can provide a birthday gift for a child who otherwise wouldn’t receive one.
- Multiple places where you can send letters of encouragement to support hospitalized kids, lonely seniors, refugees, veterans and others in need.
- And over fifty more ways you can change a life.
HumanKind will leave you grateful for what you have and provide a refuge from the negativity that surrounds us. This feel-good book will touch your heart. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll be reminded of what really matters.

This is the perfect book to read right now. The news, as Brad Aronson points out, rarely covers the good stuff, but small acts of kindness make a big difference and they’re always there if you look for them.
This book, inspired by the numerous acts of kindness Aronson’s family experienced when his wife was diagnosed with leukemia, is filled with inspiring moments that will make your heart full and your eyes water. This book is the big hug that we all need right now. It certainly left me feeling like a weight had been lifted.
And as if that isn’t enough, proceeds are being donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters. I recommend this book to everyone. I promise you’ll love it.
I received a copy in exchange for my honest review.
Good to read to remind yourself that people can be good, and that includes you.
HumanKInd is just the book we need right now. It is wonderfully written and filled with love and wisdom and compassion.
This book is a perfect reminder of what we all need right now… putting good into the world with SMALL everyday acts of kindness. A quick, lovely read! Plus, useful resources for where to start.
A good reminder of how to spread kindness!
I cannot recommend this book highly enough! This book is exactly what everyone need this year–and every year. This is a feel good book that will restore your hope in humanity. It also includes ways that you can be part of the change the world needs. I am buying it for everyone this Christmas.
Not what I had anticipated. However it did give me names of worthy charities I can donate to.
This is a book that everyone should read. It is about one family’s eperience with human kindness and how it inspried them. It also provides many examples of other people’s small acts of kindness that have stretch a very long way. Very uplifting and inspriring.
I find myself reading kindness -themed books in these trying times of Covid, protests, election angst… when everyone is uptight and seems to be trying to dodge one bullet or another. I really liked the grass-roots reference section of this book since it tells how donations are spent and how trustworthy some obscure but very impactful ( is that a word? ) some special groups are. Some of the stories I had read elsewhere, but the idea is the same: a random act of kindness, no matter how small, can have a huge impact on another.
This happened to me. I was in Manhattan; I had tickets to Alladin , and I was to attend with my 14 year old granddaughter. She was enamored with Anastasia and lamented that she really wanted to see Anastasia. I totally surprised her by buying 2 tickets to Anastasia: she started to cry:” Nana, you can’t do that.. it’s too expensive . I’ll be glad to go to Alladin. “After buying the Anastasia tickets , I took her to the theater where Alladin was playing and approached a woman and her daughter, and gave them the Alladin tickets. The joy and disbelief on their faces was priceless, but the biggest plus for me was my granddaughter’s realization of how wonderful it was to perform a totally random act of kindness. We still talk about it and wonder about the recipients, whoever they were. This books confirms how joyous the acts are.
This book not only inspires you to act on your human-kindness, it also gives tells you how by giving numerous websites to choose from.
Great book with actionable items to help implement small acts of kindness. Helps remind us that it doesn’t always have to be a big and flashy act but small ones that can change the course or others lives. A very important read!
Such a touching and informative book by Author Brad Aronson! After his wife’s diagnosis and battle of Leukemia, Brad discovered just how important the kindness of others can be. With so many different stories of helping other people who are having a hard time, maybe they are suffering from an illness, or they cannot find a job due to language barriers, this book touched me in so many ways! During these trying times we are going through now, this is a “must read” book for everyone that wants to make a difference. After reading all of the stories of how others were helping, I am determined to follow by example. I love the resources that are included in the book! I truly hope to see more from this awe inspiring Author!
