Howler
An interesting story, lots of Horses and Cowboys with a touch of mystery
Lots of twists and turns in this story. Sadie is a strong willed woman.yet she needs help and won’t ask. Howler comes into her life to help yet she fights it all the way. I enjoyed the setting and the way this story was told. You really felt apart of what was going on. The villains are not reviled until the end so it keeps you guessing.
This was a quick read and an enjoyable story.
Our hero and heroine were a bit more mature in this story than my average reads. With the quirks and the set ways of someone in their fourth decade of single existence would be. It created some fun and creative moments.
Sadie had lost her father in a suspect accident a year ago and was experiencing vandalism on her horse ranch. She was three quarters Choctow and had help from her tribe but her right hand man Ben didn’t think it was enough and hired ex marine Griffin (Howler) Jackson to investigate.
All hell broke lose when byers came to pick up some of the paints they had bought.
The plot had a few weak points… After filling up the hospital and mortuary, I would have expected a police investigation but I am not familiar with the tribe areas in the US. Perhaps they have other ways of doing things.

When Sadie’s ranch is being vandalized by unknown people . Howler shows up on her doorstep he is struck by the beautiful owner who is as much of a control freak as he is . Will they survive the men wanting to steal her land and her prized paint horses and most of all will they survive each other and keep their hearts entact .
This book has such great characters, Sadie and Howler are so complex and so well written . Sadie has been through a lot being the only girl in the family , she had to become hard and just as strong as the boys . Which in her life has helped her but also made her closed off to everyone . I truly loved her grit and deterimination to keep the ranch going . As you see her with Howler you see her fight and run like a scared filly but she starts to come around and you can see her start to fall in love. She softens up and becomes the woman that Howler can’t stay away from . Howler well he is just is oh so alpha, he is strong , sexy and you will want to climb him like a spider monkey . There is a softer side to him that you see when you see him with Sadie and with the horses . I truly love how complex he is and he is lovable in a domineering sort of way .
There are such a variety of characters in this book and you will love each and everyone of them. Ben the hired hand is such a sweet old guy who is like a grandfather to everyone The horses also play a big part in the book and for this horse girl is very satisfying .
I was so excited when I started reading this book and found out it was on a horse ranch and the horse ranch actually had paints on them . I am partial to paints so anything with a paint horse has my attention . The story is complex and takes us on a journey . The characters are also my age and the female character is actually 3 years older then the male . Which I love cause I can connect with them better then the young naive girl and the older man . I like the tribal aspect of the story line , the author delves into the tribal aspect with a respect and reverence . I really loved this book and you should check it out and put it on your summer reading challenge
A wildly sexy, stubborn and suspenseful ride. I enjoyed the story it was fast paced and full of mystery and romance. The characters were fun to read and both their stubborn dominate personalities made they perfect for each other.
Howler will make you laugh, ger angry and fall in love with love again. Sadie and Howler are strong , need to be in control characters and sparks fly from the very beginning. When her father dies Sadie is the sole owner of the horse ranch she grew up on. Someone is trying to make sure she doesn’t succeed and her foreman hires Howler to figure out what is gowing on. Both main characters are in their 40’s and he is 3 years younger than she is. It makes for an interesting dynamic. He is not a man who lets others be in control and Sadie refuses to give up control. Strongly written characters and storyline make this one hard to put down. You will fall in love with Howler. I love how he got his name. If you love a HEA ending this book is definitely for you.
This is a great story that I didn’t want to put down. The author quickly drew me into this story with an interesting plot, and intriguing characters. There is a little something for everyone to enjoy from mystery, suspense, and of course romance. I enjoyed following along on these characters journey.
Spoilers inside.Wow this was a five star read . The characters were well developed. Sadie is a 46 year old whose father died and left the painted horse ranch to her. Her and her top hand Ben are trying to keep the ranch alot despite a lot of trying problems including a fire. Along comes Howler offering to work for her . Will he be able to help find out who’s trying to sabotage her . It’s a great older couple romance which is actually one of the first I’ve read. I am looking forward to the brothers stories. I think it’s going to be a great series.
Great characters and amazing plot
Well written and enjoyable to read
Definitely not your typical kind of romance story.
Sadie is now the owner of the Painted Horse Ranch. After her father’s death she’s trying to keep the success going even with vandalism occurring and the questionable circumstances surrounding her father’s death she’s too pigheaded to ask for any kind of help.
Howler is founder/owner of an investigative firm that Ben (Sadie’s ranch hand) has hired to help discover who is sabotaging Sadie’s ranch. He’s a shameless flirt and a male that seems to attract female attention the minute he walk into a room. Sadie is good at hiding her attraction to him, but Howler is determined to tame her and show her how good it can be to give up control.
My main issue for me with this book (and this is completely my opinion) I didn’t care for Sadie sleeping with someone after meeting Howler and even admitting to herself the attraction she felt towards him. But then she gets to act like a jealous woman when he doesn’t play into her little head games she’s trying to play.
Griffin Jackson ( A.K.A Howler) comes to Antler,Oklahoma to help under the premise of looking for a job at Sadie Duke’s ranch. He has been hired to find out who is trying to off her land , and it doesn’t matter how it happens. Howler isn’t the kind of man that has relationships but Sadie brings something out in him, and he has her thinking about the choices she has made in her life. At first they are water and oil but things start changing. You have to read it to really experience it and love it. I wish I could give it more stars !!!!!!!!!!!
Sadie’s world is full of loneliness, mystery, suspense and danger. Then Howler Jackson shows up and the road of loneliness is getting shorter while they try to figure out the rest. I enjoyed this story very much.
Wow! From the beginning the author drew me in. Sadie is 46; Howler is 43. She is running a large ranch after her father’s death that she deems suspicious. Howler is hired as a ranch hand with Ben’s backing, but Sadie is suspicious of Howler too. Sadie was a likable character with her dark hair streaked with gray and her being the boss. Howler intrigued me.
There was the scene in the water tank and the very sexy scene between Howler and Sadie as well as some discipline that may or may not work for some women. It did for me.
The suspenseful part kept me guessing and added to the storyline. From the bar to the rooftop lookout, there was a lot going on and a lush mix of sexy and suspense.
There was the tribal aspect that was handled with respect, and I appreciated the attention to detail with the horses and the ranch. This is the first story I have read by this author, and now I want to read more.
Howler by A.J. Storm is a mystery novel that is infused with a romance that burns through the pages. The author gives the reader two strong-willed characters and they, of course, proceed to butt heads while falling for each other. Sadie is a ranch owner, and she still mourns the death of her father. His death was ruled an accident, but she knows that there is more to it. Howler is hired by one of her men, Ben, to investigate who is targeting her and the ranch. Sadie believes she knows who it is, but could the culprit be closer than she thinks?
Howler is the first book that I have read by A.J. Storm and I have to say that I enjoyed the air of mystery that the author weaves throughout the story. While there is an insta-attraction between the two characters, Sadie doesn’t fall all over herself concerning Howler. Instead, she’s the exact opposite. She views him as just a worker, a nuisance when he steps up to take control and just an all-around attractive pain in her butt. While I do feel that Sadie does take her stubbornness too far at certain times, I appreciate that Howler doesn’t throw in the towel and just quit.
There isn’t much that I don’t like about this book. The author does a good job keeping the reader guessing as to who the culprit might be. There are moments of where I feel Sadie takes the attitude too far, but I appreciate that the other characters don’t take it lying down. I just wish the cover of the book reflecting the book/characters better.
All in all, I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. The characters are engaging, the author gives the reader just the right amount of steamy, and a healthy dose of danger and suspense. This book is a good choice for those who enjoy a mystery novel with a nice dose of romance to balance it all out.
Who’s in control here?
If you are looking for a good, mystery, sexy read, this is it. Howler and Sadie are amazing in this story. Who doesn’t want a handsome ranch hand to take charge and lead the way? Well, Sadie that’s who. She’ll either learn Howler’s ways or not.
