It’s not always about how we fall- it’s about where we end up once we land.I remember the very first time I laid eyes on Cole Lincoln. It still feels like yesterday when he stumbled into my life with his messy brown hair and dark eyes. Even though I was only ten years old at the time, I knew right then and there that he was going to change everything. From that point on Cole and I were always … everything.
From that point on Cole and I were always together—inseparable—and I naively believed we’d be best friends forever. But forever didn’t last nearly as long as I expected.
We grew up and grew apart, life driving the distance between us, but my love for Cole never faltered. Even long after he moved away, leaving me and our little town behind, I still carried a piece of him with me every single day. Because Cole wasn’t just my childhood best friend- the boy who knew me better than anyone else in the whole world. He was also my first love- a part of my very core.
When a tragic death brings us face to face again after six years, every single memory comes rushing to the surface. Only this is not the boy I fell in love with all those years ago. The man before me is hardened, intimidating, and so damn sexy I practically melt when those dark eyes meet mine for the first time in six years.
And like the first time he walked into my life, I know with complete certainty that everything is about to change.
How We Fall is a STANDALONE Romance Novel.

How We Fall by Melissa Toppen
I enjoyed reading How We Fall, a fast paced read about a love denied for many years. Melanie and Cole are just about the cutest people I’ve ever read about. Their story made me smile often and I cried when Melanie was reading the letter from Cole. The ending made me happy. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.

I give How We Fall 4 stars for its sweet read.
I would recommend this book to Romance Fans.
I could not put down Melanie and Cole and maybe it was my OCD but I got sucked into their story. I was a little uneasy as they found each other again while seeing other people however it was dealt with in a delicate or as delicate as one can be situation. The happily ever after was perfect!

The beginning started off pretty good, especially since I’m a sucker for a friends to lovers romance. Their friendship as kids is skimmed through bringing us to the present with both of them having flashbacks here and there. I didn’t dislike this, but I didn’t necessarily love it either. How We Fall lands in the typical trope where these two have loved each other since Cole moved in next door to her as kids and because he loves her so much and can’t stand the thought of not being with her he moves away for college the first chance he gets. A tragic death brings Cole and Melanie back together again and they realize how much they were both so in love with each other and all the time they wasted. But, they can’t be together because Melanie has a long time boyfriend and Cole is messing around with some chick he works with.
My issue with this book was the fact the only air they truly cleared up was the fact that neither of them realized that they were both in love with each other. Cole apologizes for being the typical douche who dates the girl he’s in love with best friend and the reason why they were no longer close. Melanie ups and leaves her boyfriend of two years to get with Cole the first chance she gets. I don’t feel like she felt all that bad and just justified everything because she didn’t love Nate and he didn’t put her first over his work. She only admitted everything when Nate called her out on her feelings. Cole and Melanie fall into insta-love that it was too much for me to take. I understand you guys have always loved each other, but I really wanted them to explore what could be slowly and getting to know each other all over again.
I really wanted to like this book and thought that I liked more than I did until I started writing this review and realized there were things that I really bothered me about this book. I can completely understand why so many people love this book, but idk it just missed the mark for me personally.
If you enjoy a sweet romance, How We Fall is the book for you. This is the first book I’ve read by Melissa Toppen, she is an eloquent writer, descriptive, and gives each of her secondary characters a voice. Each character has a very distinct place in this book, giving it that family feel in the small town How We Fall takes place in.
This book is told in dual POV’s, often switching back and forth from past to present. It’s not confusing at all. Melissa Toppen incorporates the past events in the book right where they need to be. Everything flows perfectly.
A sweet romance between two characters that are best friends from the age of ten until one leaves for collage. The only problem, neither is sure if the other feels the same way. Their feelings are never spoken aloud to one another until the past collides with the present six years later. Unanswered questions remain, lives have changed – but have their feelings for one another remained the same after all these years?
How We Fall is a beautifully written second chance love story. The story was sweet and heartfelt read. I loved the characters Cole and Melanie from the beginning, of childhood friends to now. I was cheering for them, hoping they would get a chance to show eachother their true feelings for eachother. This is a must read!
Loved this book!!!!
How We Fall was a sweet second chance novel. Told in dual point of view this friends to lovers romance was at times an emotional read. The story was given in present day and through flash-backs which showed the chemistry Cole and Melanie had with each other. This story was an easy straight-forward read which in itself was enjoyable. The characters were all relatable and likable and the supporting characters all greatly added to the story. I enjoyed this novel.
