I love everything Le Veque such a wonderful writing style
What a delight! This duet, by two of my favorite authors, was a fun read and a thoroughly entertaining way ti spend a rainy afternoon.
The first story, written by Kathryn LeVeque, is ‘The Jewel’s Embrace’, in which River de la Haye is a man with a purpose: he needs a wife, and quickly! He and his twin, Falcon, have been told by their ailing father that the first of the two to marry inherits everything. So off he goes, despite sage advice and finds himself in a rather hilarious tangle of less than enticing candidates. Will he just take the least offensive of the lot, chance it, or run for his life?
The second story, by Emma Prince, is ‘The Siren’s Kiss’, tells the other twin’s tale. Falcon goes by sea to take a bride to an area that he’s heard is filled with ‘docile, amenable women’, certain it will be easy to just pick one up and bring her home. ( I wondered where THAT fantasy land existed and laughed yet again….). Unfortunately, he goes by a troubled sea and his ship is doomed, but he is saved by a healer, a rather beautiful one.
This was such a great way to tell ‘ both sides of the story’ as they say, and I enjoyed it very much. It has romance, adventure, and plenty of humor too. I highly recommend it.
1300 AD “Everyone knew it was coming. Ever since the twins River and Falcon had been born and the foolish midwife had forgotten to mark the firstborn, everyone knew this moment would eventually come.” Now thirty years later it happened. The Earl of Drumburgh was dying and he needed one of his sons to be name the new Earl to take his place. But which one? He announced that “Whoever marries first shall inherit the earldom.”
Let the adventures begin! Kathryn Le Veque’s story “The Jewel’s Embrace” is about the twin River and it had me smiling from the start. He went to his uncle as asked him to help him find a woman to marry and they got into a discussion about a “seed cave.” Just loved it! From a tale his uncle relayed a couple of years ago a woman and her daughters women who were desperate for a husband, he drags him along to help him find them. Made me think of Cinderella with the wicked stepmother and the crazy daughters! Just adored this story for River’s search for his bride!
In Emma Price’s story “The Falcon’s Kiss”, we follow the other twin brother Falcon on his quest for a bride. He had it all figured out and knew he would best his brother and find a biddable wife and return quickly. After all, he was going by sea to Carlisle where his cousin Eliot had just met and wed an English lass and she was already with child! Heck easy peasy! Well a storm and a down ship landed Falcon on land being rescued by a lady healer. Like Robinson Crusoe but with a much better outcome!
I adored these twins and with the writing duo of Kathryn Le Veque and Emma Prince, the outcome was already set in stone! Loved, Loved this adventure and I hope they partner again in the future!!
Twin brothers both love a good competition, but there is a lot at stake with this one. Who ever marries first wins the earldom. I loved both stories. Kathryn LeVeque’s story about River made me laugh out loud! I really enjoyed both stories and loved all the characters. I loved the endings and how families came together and love concours all. This was such a joy to read and both authors nailed it! Definitely recommend reading this one
This is a Medieval Scottish duet; The Jewels Embrace by Kathryn LeVeque and The Sirens Kiss by Emma Prince. River de la Haye and Falcon de la Haye were born as twins and through no fault of their own, the midwife forgot to mark the oldest child. Needless to say, as the father of the twins grew older, deciding that his sons should marry, he made a proclamation. The first son to marry would become Earl and hold the title to his lands. River thought that this would be an easy task and enlisted his uncle to help him. However, River soon learns that this can be a very dangerous activity. Some of these women were alarming and desperate females. Meanwhile, Falcon takes to the sea trying to beat his brother in his quest for a wife. The authors have given us quite the tale of two men hunting women, full of adventure, wild lasses and hopefully a willing wife for each brother.
The Jewels Embrace.
By Kathryn le Veque,
River de la Haye is one of twins. They have no idea which one was born first so to settle the issue of which will inherit the Earldom their father has set them a contest. Whoever marries first gets everything. The brothers love each other but really enjoy competing against each other.
I’m not going to tell you anything about Emerald because that will spoil a surprise in the book.
This is so much fun. Our hero thinks he has the perfect idea. Oh boy! is he wrong. I absolutely love all the characters, even the sisters. Although it’s only a short story it’s still well worth the five stars.

The Siren’s Kiss.
By Emma Prince.
Falcon de la Haye is one of twins who has to find a wife before his brother to inherit the Earldom.
He decides to go by sea to Carlisle but that turns out to be a bad idea.
He ends up on a tiny island with only one inhabitant.
Maerwynn is a healer for a small village but she lives alone on the island just off shore since the death of her grandmother.
Not everyone is as thankful to this selfless healer as our hero, and even he really doesn’t want to be there. His impatience to win his inheritance and her determination that he not move until she says so cause some upheaval for them both.
A very entertaing story with wonderful characters.

Both of the twins will learn what is most important in life. Which one will gain the Earldom?
You will definitely have a good time finding out.
Great fun.
