From the author of Happiness for Beginners comes the instant New York Times bestseller (May 2018), an unforgettable love story about finding joy even in the darkest of circumstances. Margaret Jacobsen is just about to step into the bright future she’s worked for so hard and so long: a new dream job, a fiancé she adores, and the promise of a picture-perfect life just around the corner. Then, … around the corner. Then, suddenly, on what should have been one of the happiest days of her life, everything she worked for is taken away in a brief, tumultuous moment.
In the hospital and forced to face the possibility that nothing will ever be the same again, Maggie must confront the unthinkable. First there is her fiancé, Chip, who wallows in self-pity while simultaneously expecting to be forgiven. Then, there’s her sister Kit, who shows up after pulling a three-year vanishing act. Finally, there’s Ian, her physical therapist, the one the nurses said was too tough for her. Ian, who won’t let her give in to her pity, and who sees her like no one has seen her before. Sometimes the last thing you want is the one thing you need. Sometimes we all need someone to catch us when we fall. And sometimes love can find us in the least likely place we would ever expect.
How to Walk Away is Katherine Center at her very best—a masterpiece of a novel that is both hopeful and hilarious; truthful and wise; tender and brave.

Great story about overcoming obstacles and learning to handle them with grace.
Too predictable!
Empowering story. I can relate to the lack of self awareness and the invisible lines that family members cross.
A bit of a sad story told in a realistic and uplifting manner. So pleased to have experienced Margaret’ s story. Absolutely best look I’ve read in years.
This is a book that on the one hand makes you so sad because of its tragic circumstances and yet bears out what the human spirit can overcome. Some of the characters were frustrating and yet the author brought out the good in even the most self centered character.
Terrific book!
Starting this book, I thought it would be shallow. Was I ever mistaken. Engrossing and worth reading.
This author is new to me, and I was not expecting this! I couldn’t put it down.
I read this book based on Kristan Higgins’ recommendation. It was one of the most moving and inspirational books that I have ever read. I loved the characters! The heroine, Margaret, is PERFECT until she is in anaccident and becomes partially paralyzed. She experiences normal emotions, which are both funny and sad. She became much more likeable to me after the accident.
I highly recommend this book. It has romantic elements, but no sex scenes.
I am a little late in reading this, but thanks to a good friend that sent me the book I had the opportunity to read it. I found the book to be well written, and hard to put down. The book tugged at my emotions, with ups and downs as Margaret struggles to come to terms with the changes in her life. This book teaches us, if we dont give up we can achieve things that we never thought possible. I would certainly recommend this to my friends.
I am not sure why I picked up this book to read, it was likely on a recommended list of books. This was my first book by Katherine Center, so I didn’t know what to expect.
This book is a story of recovery, finding oneself, and moving forward. I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the characters, with all their flaws and insecurities and hopes. I did think some of it was a little cutesy and slightly predictable, but overall, I did enjoy this story. It is different from what I typically read (thrillers), but it was a nice escape.

I REALLY liked this book. Even though there was so much heartbreak in the book, to me, it was a feel-good story. I loved the make up of characters. I loved everything about this book. The narrator couldn’t have been any better, props for that!
This is the first book by Katherine Center that I have read, but I will definitely be reading more by her.
A fantastic story. The main character Margaret made me happy, sad, gave me hope and kept me reading. I wasn’t able to stop reading this book because I had to know what was going to happen to Maggie. The author just pulled me in from page one and I enjoyed every word!
It had a little more language than I like but it was definitely an interesting story.
It was so hard to put this down. I loved the main character and how the story was told. It didn’t end the way I wanted it to and I love that it didn’t
1st book I’ve read by this author. It pulls you in right away and was excellent all the way to the end. Forgiveness, perseverance, knowing who you can count on when the going gets tough – all covered and covered well.
This is the story of a woman paralized in plane crash and the aftermath of her recovery and personal relationships. Loved the characters and story development.
4.5 Stars
Wonderful women’s fiction with some light romantic elements. I enjoyed following Maggie while recovering from a devastating accident. The story was tragic, witty, frustrating, and sweetly romantic. I loved the family dynamics, but especially Maggie’s bond with her quirky sister. This being my first book by this author, I look forward to more.
Amazing book!!! I really just wanted to stay home and read! It was both sad and heartwarming at the same time. An absolute must read!
Great read. Well-developed characters.
