I just need a little help from the cute new guy at school.
Seth
When Hannah Mitchell asks me to be her fake boyfriend, it’s impossible to say no. Yes, she’s the most beautiful girl at Edenvale, but this could also be my chance to leave my past behind and make a new name for myself.
I’m going to do everything possible to help her forget about her ex—because she deserves so much better.
Ten days. Two secrets. And one chance to turn a fake relationship into something real.
Welcome to Edenvale Arts Academy, where the performing arts are celebrated, friendships last forever, and romance takes center stage.

Such a delightful YA romance! Liwen Y Ho always writes fun and clean contemporary romance and I’m so happy that she’s venturing into YA world with Brandon and Brie Spark’s son Seth. Even if you haven’t read the Spark Brothers series, you will enjoy this book as we fast-forward in time to watch Seth enter a new high school and experience his passion for dance and his first love. If you have been following the Spark brothers, you will cherish seeing Brandon again as a father of two and growing up with the next generation of Sparks.
The storyline is fun, the setting and atmosphere are charged with energy, Seth is incredibly sweet and vulnerable in his tenderness, and Hannah is quite likable though their friendship starts on a false premise on multiple levels. I can’t wait for Liam and Ava’s (Hannah’s brother and her best friend) story!
I received a copy of the book from the author and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
I love a good YA story. This was a nice read with sweet characters and a decent plot. I really enjoyed it!
Seth feels awkward and shy, but when given the opportunity to fake a relationship with Hannah, he’s thrilled to be starting classes at a new school.
Hannah is adjusting to a new life where her father is in prison, her mom works two jobs, and all of her friends have abandoned her, even her boyfriend.
A sweet story about the “spark” of first love and finding out what is truly important in the one you should choose to share a kiss with. I received an ARC of this book and am leaving a voluntary review.
While some (maybe most) won’t remember the TV series Fame from the 1980’s, most will probably remember the High School Musical movies. How to Kiss a Guy in Ten Days reminds me of both of those. Set at a performing arts school like Fame and full of teen relationship “drama” like High School Musical. Liwen Ho seems to understand teens and the drama that is their daily life. Readers will develop a relationship with Hannah and Seth as well as big brother Liam and best friend Ava. I’m sure they will also have their own opinions about the actions of those characters.
I have not read any of Ho’s adult books about the Spark brothers but I love that she has done a spin-off series for teens. I think that How to Kiss a Guy in Ten Days and future books in the Edenvale Arts High School series will have appeal for teens. This is a clean romance and most parents will approve the content. I look forward to reading more in this series.
Potential Area of Concern
As you might guess from the title, the book does contain PDA on the part of high school students. This means the book may not be appropriate for every high school situation. Libraries will know their school and whether or not the book is a good fit for their school.
That said, I would probably be able to add How to Kiss a Guy in Ten Days to my k-12 Christian school library.
I received a complimentary e-copy of How to Kiss a Guy in Ten Days. This is my honest review.
What a wonderful book! I love the viewpoints of both the main characters and how they thought they were so different when they really weren’t. Love how each character, even the secondary ones, adapt and grow as the story unfolds. A very sweet story of the awkward teen years.
I really enjoyed this sweet YA and look forward to the next one in the series.
Do you love the innocence and beauty of a first love—the excitement of holding hands and the thrill of a first kiss? I do. I wish we could hold on to those big first feelings forever. I wasn’t sure whether or not I would enjoy this YA genre but I loved Liwen Ho’s Spark Brothers series and this new series is a spin-off so I decided to give it a try. I’m so glad I did!
This is the story of Hannah, one of the most popular girls at a high school for the performing arts, and Seth Spark, stepson of Brandon Spark (a popular romance writer.) Seth had a painful childhood and it was made more difficult because of his sensitive heart and introvert tendencies. It was fun to see him as a 15 year old teenager coming into his own, developing his talents, and slowly gaining a little confidence. And Hannah, although beautiful, charming and talented had been dealt a serious blow when her dad went to jail for committing a white collar crime and she lost her status in her country club community. She had to leave her expensive private school, move to a modest neighborhood which her mother had to work two jobs to afford, and she was rejected by Bradley, her old boyfriend. She and Seth met at her new school and she asks him to agree to pretend to be her boyfriend so she can teach Bradley a lesson. It’s a familiar trope but I love the fresh spin the author uses to make the story engaging and fresh. I loved it and look forward to reading all of the books in this series! Highly recommend!
This first book in a new series by Liwen Ho is targeted for young adults. I’m far from being a young adult, but still enjoyed the book a lot! It’s clean and sweet. It has good interactions between the characters, which are very believable. I look forward to reading more in this series.
A sweet and funny high school romance
This is the first Young Adult book author Liwen Ho has written. But I have enjoyed many of her other stories so it wasn’t a stretch to think I would like this one.
How to Kiss a Guy in Ten Days is a sweet and funny high school romance. I liked that they were only sophomores. For some reason, that seemed just right.
Seth was the sweet, insecure-but-handsome nephew of the founders of the Fine Arts school he now attended. He tried really hard not to let anyone know who he was. And after his disastrous experience with bullying at his previous school, he was so ready for this change!
I liked Hannah, too. She had been hurt, not only by the aftermath of her father’s crime but also by her boyfriend when he dumped her. She still had a sweet innocence that made her very likable as a character.
Lovers of Young Adult fiction will want to be sure to read this story.
I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
I received an ARC from the author of this book and this is my voluntary honest review!
This is a clean, sweet YA romance! I loved the storyline, and the characters and I don’t normally read YA! I really enjoyed this book!
Looking forward to the rest of the series!
I received an ARC of this book and I’m leaving my honest review
Here are the things made me want to read this story:
-It was a young adult/ coming of age romance
-The title of the book reminded me of the movie title “How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days” (PG-13 movie and one of my favorite movies)
-The description for the book said “fans of High School Musical and Zombies” and I love Disney Channel movies, (still at 27 years old)
-It’s a fake relationship trope (one of my all-time favorites)
-The story has a shy hero, (Seth) and I love shy heros.
This was the first story I read by Liwen Y. Ho but it won’t be my last
The story gives you all the feels of falling in love for the first time and it also gives you all the feelings, the angst and drama of being a teenager, which is why at times I got frustrated with Seth and Hannah and rolled my eyes at them but it didn’t stop me from enjoying Seth and Hannah’s story over all
This story ended with me smiling and being happy that I read and the story kinda reminded me of Geek Charming ( a Disney Channel 2011 movie, I enjoyed it). I so can’t wait to read Liam and Ava’s story
Super-sweet YA rom-com with a lot of heart. And hairy eyeballs.
I absolutely adored Hannah and Seth (and Ava, and Liam, and Seth’s mom and dad, and Hannah’s Grammy…), the story had just the right amount of drama, and there were lots of funny and swoony moments that made me laugh or happy-sigh, respectively.
One of my favorite quotes:
“According to Nolan, Hannah was fine, with a capital F. I couldn’t agree more. She was fantastic, fun, and fascinating. And forgeous. Okay, that wasn’t a real word, but it perfectly described how for-reals gorgeous she was in every way.”
This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but I have already preordered the next book in the series. And I also want to read the story of Seth’s parents. And those of his uncles, while I’m at it. More, please! 🙂
I really liked how this book tied into the Sparks Brother’s series which was one of my favorite series by Liwen Y. Ho. Seth is the stepson of Brandon Sparks and he attends Edenvale Arts High School owned by his aunt and uncle, Evan and Emma Sparks.
This was a sweet book of awkward, young love that started out as a planned, fake relationship to make an old boyfriend of Hannah’s jealous. What happened instead is a cute story of teenage angst. Both Seth and Hannah are fun characters that I really liked. They seemed to have a lot in common. I liked that Seth had a chance to reunite with his real father. I also liked that Hannah had a chance to reevaluate her relationship with her old boyfriend and see him for who he really was. She was finally able to see him as her family saw him. All of this was because of the nice way that her fake boyfriend, Seth treated her. I look forward to reading the next book in this new series. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
A great clean, sweet and fun Ya romamce!
This is a very sweet high school first love story. I loved each of the characters. They each have great personalities but also have real life problems. Dealing with the stress of life and being a teenager is a tough time in life. These kids have the opportunity to attend a school for the arts. They get to learn in the art they love dance, singing, drama etc.
The plan for Seth to be a fake boyfriend to Hannah is written just right. Ava, Hannah’s best friend, is helping them look like a real couple. Which is pretty funny because she makes a list of what to do to look like they are really dating.
I look forward to reading the next book in the series of this fresh young love series!
Call it pretend. Call it fake. But maybe, just maybe it’s real and they just don’t know it yet. I’ve read most all of those Spark brothers storylines and if I’ve learned anything, it’s never say never when it comes to them. Seth is no different. His last name may be Montgomery, but he’s a Spark through and through.
Seth thinks Hannah is out of his league but Hannah, the one time popular girl needs a new boyfriend and her good friend Ava knows Seth is the one. On the dance floor, he has all the right moves, he’s confident and secure. However, off the dance floor he’s awkward, shy and prefers to stay out of the limelight. But that simply is not to be as he makes quite the splash on his first day at Edenvale school.
Hannah’s boyfriend drops her, texts her that he’s canceling their dance date and to make matters worse, takes her nemesis to that ritzy, posh, dance. Hannah needs to TRY to save face and Seth steps up to the plate. And so, the practice begins. Nope, not practicing dance moves. Those are easy. They have to practice being boyfriend and girlfriend so they can show the snobbish, uppity Bradley he’s not the only game in town. But there’s a problem…. you’ve heard the saying that practice makes perfect, well what happens when practice is not only perfect but becomes real?
Enjoy this sweet, touching first of a series story. It’s hard not to fall in love with Seth and Hannah as you follow their journey to healthy love and healing. And oh yeah, that kiss…. the best of her life.
This book was a lot of fun to read. It’s energetic, emotional, and different from other books that I have read. I love how the characters grow throughout this novel and learn that while life may be bad, there is always some good. The characters were easy to imagine. I liked how the past was explained but didn’t take up the majority of the story.
The story follows Seth and Hannah. Hannah’s life was turned upside down when her father went to jail for a scandal. Her friends and boyfriend distanced themselves from her. They moved into a smaller house after selling most of their stuff. Her mom had to work hard to make ends meet. Seth’s father also was in jail. But time passed and his mom remarried to an amazing man. On his first day of school, Ava, Hannah’s best friend, calls him over to be Hannah’s fake boyfriend to get her real boyfriend jealous. But they both start having feelings for each other after some time.
I wrote this voluntary review in exchange for an ARC copy.
A sweet YA romance. A great start to a series, I really enjoyed the wonderfully developed characters and look forward to seeing more of them in the future books.
I highly recommend this book.
How to Kiss a Guy in 10 Days by Liwen Y. Ho is a funny high school romance story. This is a story that is YA or early high school. While reading this you will remember all the feels from your first love, kiss and being young again. It was a very quick read. Ms. Ho wrote a cute and fun story which drew me right in, making me forget everything else and did not let me go until I turned the last page. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.
Wow! This book brought back memories of high school for me.
I could have been one of the characters.
This was a real to life story about teenage love.
The characters are so real and have a special connection.
‘The plot could have been played out anywhere, it was so delightful.
I so enjoy this author.
I usually don’t enjoy YA books, but I loved the Spark family so much and wanted to see Seth as a teenager, so I decided to read it anyway. Mrs. Ho is such a good writer she pulled me right into the series and I was stuck. I’m even excited for the next story. Seth is such a sweet good kid. I love who he has grown into and sad for the challenges he has had. I was surprised by his love of dancing, but it was a nice twist to the story having them at a performing arts school. Hannah was also very sweet, but definitely a teenager at moments. There were times I could forget how young they were and other times I rolled my eyes at them. I’m kind of a prude I guess and don’t believe in serious dating or kissing as teenagers, why I don’t enjoy YA, so I took a star off for that. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the story and seeing a glimpse of the Spark family’s future.
