!st of the Matchmaking for Wallflowers series read them all!
The deception of Fiona towards the Duke of Alfriston was humorous. I looked forward to reading it to the end
Start of new series! Basically the story is about two misfits that find each other, through a funny mishap. Fiona is at home with digging up Roman artifacts in the English countryside. She never fit in with the nobles. Percival the newest Duke is learning to adjust to a title he never thought to have. Returning from Waterloo, with a missing leg has given the Ton plenty to gossip about also. The two had a huge misunderstanding when they met. She need a fiancé to show her ailing grandmother and he is on the way to meet a future to be fiancée he never met. Sparks fly and they can’t seem to help themselves, but duty must come first. I enjoyed reading this book, had a few good chuckles, a glimpse into misconceptions of self image and a good storyline.
Loved it!
fun light read (Mills & Boone type)
4.5 stars
Fiona Amberly is a strong willed female who refuses to be like the other “ton.” She doesn’t want to get married or deal with men who see women as just arm candy. She just wants to be an archaeologist and discover history. She even develops a system of measurement and labeling for future researchers!
As you can tell, I really loved Fiona. She doesn’t let bad situations stop her from achieving her dream. This wallflower is spunky, smart, and determined. I loved everything about her character.
Percival Carmichael is a war veterans who lost part of his leg. Percival is quite a interesting character. He spends the beginning of the book trying to get away from Fiona but quickly changes his mind once he actually starts talking and interacting with her. But like most hero’s, he messes up, and not in a little way either. He quickly realizes his mistake but it takes him a few months to admit it and try to win her back.
I really loved the romance between these two. It was quick but perfect for the situation. He supports her work and continues to encourage her to look for archaeological sites. Fiona may hate being part of society but she realizes she tries to make everyone comfortable as possible, especially those shy wallflowers. I really like how they both make concessions for their different lifestyles, but don’t give up their goals to do so.
Overall a wonderful book. I definitely plan on reading more of Blythe’s books in the future.
What a fun read. Humor, romance and action. I laughed outloud numerous time while reading and I haven’t done that for sometime! Looking forward to reading book #2 in the series!
author writes well. Maintains my interest.
This Regency novel has the traditional characteristics of a highway robbery, a kidnapping, and an arranged marriage, but they don’t happen to the beautiful heroine. Percival Carmichael is the victim of Fiona Amberly’s efforts to find someone to pose as her fictional fiance, Captain Knightly, for her grandmother. Percival fits the bill after returning from the war with plans to marry his dead brother’s betrothed. Fiona’s plans go all wrong, and Percival adds to the problems that make the reader laugh, cry, and wonder how they are going to sort out the mess they’ve created.
Romantic, easy-to-read, entertaining but predictable.
Fun to read
Somewhat comical in places–but entertaining
I found this book interesting, at least most of it. The ending, unfortunately, was not. I believe the author had the opportunity to bring the couple together with a romantic, dramatic flare, and then take us along as they battled the remaining obstacles. Instead, we got an anticlimactic ending.
Very enjoyable and hard to put down
This was overall a really fun read. I enjoyed how the female lead had a unique personality with goals and dreams that were not the norm.
This one was twisty. The heroine was impulsive and clever.
A creative plot with interesting characters. You will love the twists and turns.
Good light reading
Enjoyable story about a wallflower whose passion is archeology, who mistakenly captures a Duke on his way to propose to his Aunt’s choice of bride.
This was a very boring book/story. There was no depth to the characters or the storyline. The female lead was so immature & the male was not likable. I finished it but it left me wanting. I don’t feel the characters or the plot got developed. I won’t be reading anything more from this author.
