I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved Xavier; he was a character that I loved to hate. Really well written novel.
Best book ever and I read a book a day. I really got to connect with the characters and feel what they felt, it actually felt like I was there! Love the names too!
Wow, couldn’t put this book down! It’s brutal with damaged souls. Great read.
I enjoyed this book, but would have enjoyed it better if it wasn’t for over the top sadistic and outlandish sex. If i was abused that way, i don’t think i would ever have anything to do with that person, no matter how good the sex was.
I literally wanted to get my hands around Xavier’s throat and squeeze as tight as I can. I had this desire for a good portion of the book. Leawyn was a strong beauty daughter to a clan chief. To build an alliance and shut down an ancient feud she was push to marriage. Treated worse than property. She pushed on. She had the purity, strength, and determination to stick to her resolve.
This debut brought brutality, battles, betrayal, pain, pleasure, and stirred strong emotions. I battled with myself on my deep disgust and dislike of Xavier and my enormous empathy for/with Leawyn. Tides change with any good book you get to watch as the characters change and grow. My dislike of Xavier became like and a deeper respect for L eawyn.
I am anticipating the next in the series. I find that there were a few prospects that I would love to see coming along with their own battles and HEA.
Not as graphic as advertised, but still some steam. Overall, I liked the story and the characters. The story moved well.
This was a dark twist to the historical romance genre. If you like dark romances, then this is for you. If you’re not into pushy, dominating alpha males who are unapologetic, keep moving.
This book was soooooo good! A very dominant man in love with a sweet and loving woman. It has a rough beginning but smoothes out very nicely.
This was a really captivating and steamy read. I was drawn in from page one and finished this book in one day. I know some of the editing could have been perfected but the story is good.
I was quickly swept into this story! The author’s talent for character and world building is amazing. I loved the legends and history of the tribes, the chemistry that exploded off the pages between Xavier and Leawyn, and the non-stop twists and turns! The mystery characters that we met along the way built the excitement until the epic conclusion! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
The world building was decent. That’s about all I can say is positive about this reading experience. The “hero” is just too unlikeable, cruel, and paranoid for my taste. The heroine’s actions are head scratching crazy at times, thinly disguised / described as her choices, but otherwise batshit insane. People around them know the abusive behavior is happening and yet don’t so much as offer an alternative until past the 3/4 point of this book. The sex is not pleasurable in any way and yet you are supposed to believe she craves it? Desires him at times? I just couldn’t even finish this, and I usually enjoy things on the darker side.
Nicole Rene’s debut novel is brilliant. I loved the way her words spread on the pages. It was terrifying in the beginning with how the main character Leawyn was treated. It put a fire in my heart in regards to her husband Xavier. They were forced into marriage to create peace between their tribes, she hated him and he wanted to possess her. He wanted to make her his, violently and she made it very hard on herself & him. I hated him and loved her.
This book reminds me of the story of Kahl Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen. Primal and fiercely evil in the beginning but heart pounding beautiful in the end. I loved it. Some twists you expect and some you don’t. It was a fun read. A true page turner, I couldn’t put it down. Started the book yesterday and I’m writing this review with enough time to start another book today. It entertained me until the last paragraph.
Not for young readers, if you want something to dream about later definitely give this book a shot.
not for faint of heart. this is a rough book w some harsh themes, but if you stick with it,it ends up being an amazing story. if you are looking for a barbarian turned cuddly teddy bear by his heroine this is not the book you are looking for. I loved it but I was able to read past the situation to the story behind it.
This setting and the conflict between the characters left me cold. If you are a fan of dark-ages tribal relationships you might like this, but this one wasn’t for me.
This book was tough… I alternated between hating it and loving it… I feel like the following books might be better.
Very good book to read
This book was VERY rapey. Now, I’ve read some books where rape is a big part of it, and even enjoyed some of them. But this one was bad because the characters didn’t at least draw me in. The hero was a jerk (stronger language should be used here) and there were small crumbs that said maybe there was a reason but nothing concrete. The heroine kept flip-flopping in personality. Sometimes her inner character was strong, but a lot of the time it was weak. Her character and her background were inconsistent. Some people might enjoy this book. But it definitely wasn’t for me. I was hoping for way more.
Still trying to figure out how I feel about this story..
The repeated rape scenes were a turn off for me.
