Review of Capturing the Carlisles Book #4 by Anna Harrington
I can’t say enough good things about this book! I absolutely loved it! There were many late nights spent reading to find out about Grace and Ross, I couldn’t put it down.
Right from the start when Ross Carlisle and Grace Alden meet, there is instant chemistry. Ross is trying to escape capture to protect his King and country and Grace is living as a widow in a fishing town to protect her son and forget her past.
When he shows up on her doorstep she recognizes him from a lifetime ago. Her world turns upside down and she insists he help her to obtain her son’s rightful claim to his inheritance, in return she will help him get safely to London.
They both have hidden pasts they don’t want either to know. The humour and budding relationship is amazing throughout the book. Grace and Ross are each playing their own chess game to find out more about each other’s pasts.
I don’t want to say too much more about this book, otherwise I will spoil it, but I loved everything about it. Grace is beautiful and a very strong willed survivor. Even when she was scared she wasn’t some wilting female, she took charge with determination and strength. Ross is a handsome, strong bold hearted loyal patriot. He doesn’t want to endanger Grace so at first he doesn’t accept her help. On their journey together they break down many barriers and work toward changing their future.
This book was filled with mystery, intrigue and of course romance. I loved every bit of it and will definitely reread it over and over.
If you haven’t read any of Anna Harrington’s other books (Capturing the Carlisles Series, The Secret Life of Scoundrels Series) then you need to start reading right now!
I can’t wait for Miss. Harrington’s next book! I received this book at no charge from the publisher. My review and my opinions are my own.
10 years ago Susan Montague, Viscountess Lockwood died and Grace Alden, mother to Ethan and widow was created from the ashes of her previous live. After the death of her husband, she was threatened by her brother in law, knowing that he would kill her and her unborn child, she fled and has spent years hiding and bearing the scar of his wrath.
Ross Carlisle, the Earl of Spalding is a wanted man, on the run and desperate to clear his name from charges of treason and murder, he jumps ship and washes up in Sea Haven during a violent storm. He forces his way into Grace’s cottage and plans to rest and leave as soon as the storm is over. Grace tends his wounds and turns the tables on him when he passes out. He awakes tied to the bed, naked. Grace has found the papers that he carries and demands answers. She knows who he is and is grateful he doesn’t remember her. But when she learns some upsetting news about her brother in law, she blackmails Ross into helping her reclaim her son’s inheritance – she will help him clear his name, so he can use his influence to help her, but refuses to tell him who she is.
The set out for London and Ross is intrigued by Grace, she is beautiful, smart, resourceful and brave. By the time they reach London, he knows he wants her for always. But first he has to clear his name and find proof to capture the real traitor. Grace insists on helping and his brother Christoper agrees. Grace is falling for Ross, but is sure he will refuse to help her if he learns who she is and what she has done. She tries to guard her heart, but knows that it is too late.
When their plan to get the evidence is unsuccessful and they are separated, Grace is beside herself with worry for his wellbeing and when he returns, she gives into the fire that burns between them. Afterwards, she finally tells him who she is and what she did. He is shocked and if he is honest, a little impressed – but helping her may cost him his dreams. Before he can decide how to deal with this news, he is captured and arrested for treason, along with Grace.
Grace refuses to give up, even after Ross tells her there is no hope and demands that she return to Ethan and forget about him. Grace manages to do what even Ross wasn’t able to do and risks exposing herself to save him – but the cost may well be her life.
I thought this was a very good story, it was well written, has lots of action, secrets, intrigue, deception, really steamy love scenes, true love, great secondary characters and a lovely ending complete with an epilogue. It is part of a series, but it can definitely be read as a stand alone title.
*I am volunarily leaving a review for an eARC that was provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher.*
Ross and Grace had an incredible adventure towards their happily ever after but they finally got it! Anna has done it again! Her books reel you in and don’t let go until the very last page! You just cannot put them down because they are so interesting and enjoyable that you want to see what happens next to the characters. I can’t wait for her next book! I received an advanced reader’s copy but this review is my own! Please take a moment and go to Amazon and pick up this amazing read for yourselves and join Ross and Grace on their wonderful adventure towards love!
Let’s cut to the chase. This book was AWESOME. Yes, all-in-caps AWESOME! Anna Harrington is most definitely on my auto-buy list. The story started with thrills and secrets, which lasted throughout the entire book. It was the exciting romance, though, that kept me enthralled.
I absolutely loved the chemistry between Ross and Grace. Grace has been added to my list of favorite heroines. She was such a strong woman, brave even when she was fearful. I loved her smartassedness and snarky humor. She would risk all for her child. Ross, too, was amazing. He put his life in jeopardy for what he believed was right, even though it could see him hanged. He was affectionate, strong, very protective and laughed easily. You could feel the attraction between the two from the start. When they finally come together, you could feel the steam come off the page. ~Sigh~
This was not the first book in the Capturing the Carlisles series, but totally stood alone. So if you haven’t read the first three, don’t fret. Like me, you WILL want to read the others. I won’t miss another book by Ms. Harrington again.
I received an ARC of this book courtesy of NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
I’ve read each of the Carlisle books before this and they just keep getting better. I loved Ross in this book. And Grace Alden is wonderful as a mother bent on protecting her young son. The two together create fireworks!! There is plenty of action, intrigue and suspense plus maybe even love. Anna Harrington has a knack for creating wonderful characters that come alive. I highly recommend this book and would give 10 stars if I could . I was gifted this book and am voluntarily reviewing.
I am in love with Ross Carlisle. Ross came alive in this book. I did not think anyone could come close to Sebastian, but Ross is giving him a run for his money. Ms. Harrington writes another page-turner with intrigue, passion, sacrifice, strength, and family and not just on Ross’ part. Grace is also the embodiment of all of these characteristics. Sacrifice is a huge part in this story and makes you root for these characters. Ross and Grace are such strong characters that I wanted to read more about their lives. An amazing story! If you have not read any of Ms. Harrington’s books, run out and get them. You will not regret one minute of reading.
I received a complimentary copy from the author.
This book had you guessing from the beginning on what was going to happen next. Although I have not read the three books that came before, I didn’t feel as though I had missed anything. In fact, I hope there will be a next book with Ross’s brother Christopher. I enjoyed the relationship between Ross and Grace and the secrets they held and finally shared. There was action, mystery and of course romance. There were a couple of sex scenes which this reviewer skipped as usual. I found it to be a real page turner and a nice change from ballroom romances. I received this as an ARC and was very pleased to give it a 5 * review.
I absolutely adored this book. It’s a fast-paced, heart pounding thriller with a romance that sizzles along the way. Grace Alden and Ross Carlisle, Earl of Spalding, meet under the worst of circumstances, but they both need something from each other and agree to travel to London together. Ross needs to clear his name of treason and Grace needs to win back her son’s inheritance.
Ms. Harrington has a flair for writing complicated characters who are so appealing that you can’t help but fall in love with them. Ross is a loyal British citizen and he’ll do everything he can to prove it. Grace is no wimpy heroine. She has a backbone of strength and has shown remarkable resilience during the last 10 years protecting her son. I loved the slow build up of their attraction as they learn more about each other. I could hardly turn the pages fast enough to see what happens. Definitely recommend this book!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review and was not obligated to leave a review.
The plot suffers behind ‘how to sex.
The tale of Ross Carlisle’s “fall from grace,” and his rise again with the assistance of the unpredictable Grace Alden was entertaining and fulfilling.
I enjoyed reading this action packed novel. Thanks Anna Harrington
A true romantic story with laughs along the way!
Good reading. Would recommend this author.
I have read and loved this entire series by Anna Harrington who at the beginning of the series was a new to me writer.
Just when I thought she couldn’t possibly write a better tale, she bowls me over with this one.
It contains all of the elements for a really good read, an intriguing tale, with danger and a developing love story between two almost strangers makes this book in this reader’s opinion the best so far in this series.
Grace is in hiding from her past with a young son whose future lies there but obtaining that future for her son could be dangerous.
Ross Carlisle is fleeing from a reality that just may mean his death as a traitor to the crown and the king he has so willingly served. In his process of escaping and trying to make his way back to England, hopefully ahead of those who mean him harm, he involves Grace in his mess.
Will she help him and will he in turn assist her in her quest for her son’s rightful inheritance?
This convoluted page turner is the fourth book in this series that just gets better with each book.
Even if you have not read the previous three books this one can stand on it’s own but is made better if you read all of the series in the order they were intended. That way you don’t miss out on the back story of the other family members.
I gave this book 4.9 of 5.0 stars for storyline, plot and character development. There are few times that I come this close to giving a book 5 stars but this one came so close it was hard to deny it that lofty rating. Although intimacy is a part of this tale it isn’t what makes it so good but it still is very heated and receives an sensual rating of 4.25 of 5.0 flames.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the author to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and happily left this voluntary review.
Grace lives a fake life, so she can protect his son. However, due to the last news, she needs to go out of her hidden place.
Ross lives a nightmare when trying to get to his country to prove himself loyal to the crown.
Grace proves to be a very resourceful woman when she has to help Ross escape the soldiers at the inn. She is loyal, trustful and she would do anything for her son. And for Ross, even getting her life at risk.
The storyline is great and very interesting. The characters are very lovable. I like the mix of intrigue, action, and romance in the book. Another delightful story by Anna Harrington.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
The author writes in such a way you feel you are right there in the story. Loved the plot and the characters were so realistic.
I absolutely loved this story by Anna Harrington! It is the fourth book in the Capturing the Carlisles series and definitely worth reading.
Ross Carlisle the Earl of Spalding would do anything for his country, but in doing so finds himself marked as a traitor and fighting not only for his life, but his and his family’s reputation as well. Stumbling upon a widowed woman and her son in a small fishing town after nearly drowning finds them both turning to each other for help. They soon realize that they have feelings for each other and no matter what happens they will do everything they can to stay together.
I’ve really enjoyed reading all about the Carlisle family and their enthusiasm for danger and love.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
I adore reading a good “second chance at romance”. So, I was very excited to take this journey with Ross and Grace, and their story delivered everything I could have asked for and more. This novel was a wonderful addition to the Capturing the Carlisles series, and it captured, and held, my interest with ease, as well.
There are so many reasons why Harrington is one of my favorite historical romance authors, and this book is just another shining example.
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
Thoroughly enjoyed this latest book in the Carlisle family series. Ross is a fascinating hero and Grace more than earns her place in the story. I read it in a single day. Couldn’t sleep I finished it.
Very good. A little shorter would be best
